great racing last night guys, congratulations to cobrius for winning the first race of the season, having watched the replay he was very consistent and had a great strategy for preserving tyres. gprili had a great battle with cobrius throughout the race and these guys both did extremely well to make it through with a one stop, these are gonna be the guys to watch so far, well done to both of you

Thanks Soopaman. Here is my recipe for this race:

1. Like the track
I guess we all have good tracks and bad ones.

2. Get the setup right for consistency
For me it's important to have the car easy to drive, not necessarily the fastest setup for one lap.

3. Race with fair & clean people
Ofcourse you can't win races if people run you off the track.

4. Have some luck
I've been in races where everything feels good and then something happens, could be connectionproblems or people at home who don't understand that racing is important.

5. Beeing in the zone
I've ruined many races because of lack of concentration.

6. Practice
Seems like the amount of hours I practice reflects in the race.

I'm really looking forward to next round at Nurburgring GP/F and new great battles with you guys. 👍

nice one cobrius, you're absolutely right of course, if all these things fall into place for you you're on to a winner. I must say I'm a little guilty of only spending an hour on practice for this track, its been one of those weeks where I can't get on the PS3, now I know the competition will be so fierce I will kick the kids off the telly a bit more ;)

boshuter, I was watching the replay and we had an epic little battle laps 9 & 10, you finished me off with a great move up the inside into turn 9.

I'm just waiting for anyone to bring any issues to my attention, we only have one so far, then I'll be posting the official results later on this evening...
I'd like to do a review of the race but my creative writing skills are a bit naf, so I'll try and put together a video review over the next few days, they say a picture paints 1000 words so at 24fps the video should say alot more than I could ever write :D

I really enjoyed last nights race, i thought i did well for my first gtplanet league race :P
well done to cobrius and gprili. Looks like practice on the nurburgring gp/f, the track seems to have a lot more grip than suzuka.

I think it's safe to say there were no other incidents, so I've gone ahead and updated the race results and championship standings.

A big thanks to everyone who took part, the standard of racing was really high and made for an enjoyable and entertaining race, I can't wait for next week.

Yeah it was good fun. I'm not used to doing 30 lap races so am surprised I managed to stay awake!

Was pleased with a 1.56 lap time but I had several laps over 2 minutes which was mainly due to not enough grip on my tyres. Next time I will stop twice I think..

For those of you who are interested I created a highlight video of our race at suzuka, initially I thought I'd do a brief 5 min video, but there was just so much action that was impossible. I tried to capture as much of what was going on as I could, so sorry if I missed you out, but in the end I struggled to keep it under the 15min youtube limit!!

Let me know if you like it, I might make it a regular thing, time permitting ;)

The video is right under the race results

Great video 👍

thanks mate, I thought the soundtrack was so appropriate in places too, most notably for me on lap 8 when I out-brake myself into turn one and go wide destroying the nice 5 second lead I had. gprili is all over me with the lyrics saying "watcha gonna do when the hounds are callin", it repeats this as I come out of turn 11, I brake late again into turn 13 so apparantly what I'm gonna do is buckle under the pressure, hit the gravel and drop to 3rd place, lol
:banghead:

I've added a new poll so that we can vote on options for upcoming events. I've made it multiple choice, since there is no option to remove a poll other than bothering admin to do it, so we need to make all the decisions in one go. All the options for races 5, 9 & 10 are there to vote on, please choose 1 option for each race, so go ahead and voice your opinion and we'll go with the majority.

p.s The option for Rd.9 is there because even if I were to switch penalties on for that race, chicane cutting at Monza is not penalised by the game, so I either have to penalise by watching the replay or we all cut the chicane so everyone is even.

p.p.s The vote is public so I can count votes by our drivers only, not people who randomly visit the thread and vote (don't ask me why but it happens)

Great video and am very impressed with how professional you have got this league looking Soopa. The tables, tracks and videos look great..

I could learn a lot from that, which is probably why no-one will join my league

Looking forward to Friday at Nurburgring, although I hear you are pretty strong on that track...

Terrific video 👍
there was a lot of action in that race than i thought

Thanks for the compliments guys, I'm glad you appreciate the video, I will try and make it a weekly thing. Would be so much easier if PD would sort out some better replay controls, being able to jump to whatever lap you want would be so helpful.

I do like that track, I think I'm pretty quick and usually don't make too many mistakes there, certainly not as many as I did at Suzuka anyway...but we'll see.
I'd like to win at least one race this season so I'll be trying hard to keep it together next week :)

Great video Soopa. I think i make quite a good highlight reel for spins :-) i think i'll use my stering wheel next week and not the controller, see if that makes a difference.

Thanks Boyce, I didn't mean to pick on you but they were pretty good spins ;)

Since I got my wheel I can't go back to using a DS3, the only thing that's more difficult with a wheel for me is drifting, but then I haven't practised much as I'm more of a racer than a drifter anyway

Great job Soopa with the video!! Fantastic! I'm looking forward to the next race! :)

Thanks mate, I can't wait for the next race either, I know it's only been one race but the quality has been top notch so far. Hopefully we'll have closer to 16 of us this week

I have been looking for a series to join and was wondering if you need any drivers? I see you have 16 people signed up but only 10 made it to the first race. I would be interested in taking the spot of a dropout or as a fill in if others don't show. I have pretty much every GT500 car so I can drive whatever you need me to.

I understand if you aren't taking on any new drivers. Just thought I might be able to get in.

thx,

You're in luck, just so happens we've had a dropout, since unfortunately Friday nights are gonna be no good for him.

I've updated the spot with your details, you'll be driving #12 Calsonic IMPUL GT-R '08, look forward to racing with you Friday night ;)

Go ahead and vote in the poll

If anyone wants to practice in the evenings, I'm usually on from late evening to late night. I'm on CST in the USA so it's hard for me to practice with the European drivers.

Just add me on psn: boshuter, and check my lounge to see if I'm in there.

I enjoy practice much more when it's not just me running laps. I'd be glad to help with setups also. :)

I know corner cutting is covered in the rules and what constitutes cutting will be obvious to most, but just so everyone is clear on what will and will not be penalised in Rd.9 or any other race, here are some images to clarify.

Monza Chicane 1 Entry is not possible to cut due to the position of the concrete wall there so forget that...

Monza Chicane 1 Exit No Penalty:

Monza Chicane 1 Exit Penalty:

Monza Chicane 2 Entry No Penalty:

Monza Chicane 2 Entry Penalty:

Monza Chicane 2 Exit No Penalty:

Monza Chicane 2 Exit Penalty:

So those are the rules that will be enforced at Monza and any other track for that matter, although at Monza I will be paying special attention to everyone going through the chicanes on every lap, which I'm really looking forward to

1st cut = warning
2nd cut = 1pt penalty
3rd cut = 2pt penalty (totalling 3pts deducted)
4th cut = DQ

still debating whether or not to just keep adding 2pt penalties until you have no points left, which would technically be a disqualification, what do you guys think?[/QUOTE]

i think 4 cuts is enough warning before DQ

I'm glad it's you and not me that has to spend hours going over replays to see if anyone cuts a corner.:ill:

I haven't voted yet, but I'd either allow it and avoid all the hassle, or just not run that track. The same problem exists on Le Sarthe 2009, that's why I like the 2005 version of the track. How will you enforce the cutting during qualification?

I'm more concerned with "wall riders" at Tokyo than I am chicane cutting at Monza. ;)

hmm, you raise some good points, La Sarthe & Monza are great tracks so it'd be a shame to cut them (particularly with the 24hr we can do at La Sarthe). I guess I'm having to rely on most of us being good honest drivers... I can monitor qualifying by watching and switching as best as possible between drivers coming up to the chicanes, obviously it'll be a bit hit and miss but should be do-able, I'll ask everyone to enter the pits and then run 1 hot lap myself and just hope I get somewhere close to my best in one shot. Whoever is on pole at the time can follow me round for everyone's peace of mind. For La Sarthe we could have penalties on, but I didn't want them because ghost cars kinda ruin the realism for me.

One of the rules I put in place was to put off the wall riders at tracks like Tokyo, the rule states not to hit any walls, barriers, break markers etc, basically keep it on the track in general. Now mistakes happen to the best of us, so I will be looking for those gaining an advantage from the walls and the 3 strike rule will be in effect for wall riding the same as it is for chicane cutting, again this will mean me monitoring the most obvious corners where advantage can be had during the replay. This is gonna be harder to catch than Monza...

The only other thing I can rely on is people helping me out by being honest about their own faults as well as those you saw of others, if you can flag to me that you saw someone wall riding or cutting as much as you would someone plowing into you will be a big help too, hopefully if we're all watching each other those that might look to gain dishonest advantage will be less inclined to do so. I'm pretty sure we have a good bunch of people here from what I saw at Suzuka anyway so probably worrying about this more than we should.

It's not a big deal Soppa, I think everyone will do fine with not cutting the corners. It can happen to anyone now and then, but I certainly don't expect anyone to do it intentionally, or regularly.

The term "wall riding" isn't exactly what I mean on Tokyo. It's more a mattter of being able to run too hard into corners, or brake too late, and just bounce off the wall and keep going. If the same driving is done on a regular race course it would mean a trip off track and significant time lost. It's a shame because Tokyo is one of my favorite tracks (next to Monte Carlo), at least for the city tracks.

Really looking forward to this weeks race, I love this track too 👍

with regards to Tokyo, damage is on so hitting the walls too hard should result in time loss due to a damaged wheel, there is one corner I struggle with at Tokyo and I'm just gonna have to take it easy through there!

I've got a league race tonight, but should be done shortly after midnight, I'll see if you're on for some practice after ;)

Okay guys, I've never missed a race before but tonight i probably will. Have to pick up people at the airport and there's only a small theoretical chance to get back home in time. It's too bad because I too like this track. If I can't make it I hope you have a great race.

Looking forward to it later. Gonna have a few drinks out before the race but will try and stay in a straight line!
