And the price is...?
I'm looking for something less than £93 delivered (wheelstandpro price inc shipping). So with shipping from the US I'm not sure if you'll be able to beat that!? Although being made of wood I guess its gonna be a lot lighter than the WSP
There is no way I could compete with the Wheel Stand Pro. It is much simpler and light duty. There is no angle adjustment for the pedal rest on the WSP. There isn't as much adjustment on the wheel mount either. The whole thing is made out of light duty tubular steel which is much lighter overall than my stand which weighs at least 60lbs (never checked yet). I am sure under aggressive use, the WSP will move all over, especially side to side. From what I hear, guys that have it have to modify it to make it stiffer and prevent it from moving side to side when aggressively turning due to the force feedback.
I personally haven't tried it but I always admired the simplicity and think it would be far better than a TV tray table or computer desk because at least you can adjust it to suit you and it stores in a small space which makes it practical for the average racer who can't give up the room for a cockpit. You can adjust wheel tilt, height and distance from wheel to pedal which is important.
The Pro Am Racing Wheel Stand takes all those adjustments into consideration as well. Wheel to pedal distance can be adjusted without limiting wheel height and tilt angle which most cockpit designs suffer from even though they cost far more. Then try and put them in your closet for storage. Not going to happen unless you have walk in closets you don't use. If you are a college guy living in an apartment or dorm, cockpits are out of the question. My concept has always been Professional performance for the average racer hence the "Pro Am" name. Professional performance for the Amateur.
That is why I have worked to develop a concept that gives you all the performance of a cockpit with the storage capabilities of a WSP. This is no tinker toy. It is precision built with machined jigs and the hand craftsmanship of the Garage father. All the fasteners are machine screws with metal threaded inserts in the wood for precision and strength. The pics may not do it justice but when you see it in person, you can see the obvious build quality. It far surpasses the cheaper competition and makes the WSP look like a coat rack.
All these things considered, I cannot sell the unit for any less than $250 US plus shipping. That puts the unit somewhere between the WSP and Cockpit designs and about $100 US less than the cheapest Play seat(w/o any accessories $350 US plus shipping). Then you have to live with Pedal rest angle because it is fixed on the Playseat at about 30-45 Degrees and other cockpits like the Fanatec Rennsport, Human Racing GT chassis cockpit, and pretty much all the others that inexplicably omit any angle adjustment on the pedal rest and just leave the pedals flat on the chassis base. These are high end cockpits that cost hundreds more and some over $1000 US before you buy the wheel! Not practical for most of us.
No offense but I would just as soon spend my time racing than out in the garage building high end racing stands for charity. I built one for myself because I couldn't buy a decent unit that I liked and that also met all of my needs, and once friends saw it I had to build three more. Now, I think I have an idea that can really sell to the right crowd as long as the expectations are realistic about the costs. If I partner with a manufacturer who can mass produce these, then the price would come down. I am still working on that as well as getting patents. I am sure since I posted them on GTplanet that several people are already trying to copy it for themselves. I say good luck to them. It isn't as simple as it might look. Most people lack the skills and precision craftsmanship that is required to pull it off correctly, let alone the tools. The Garage Father has all of the above.
Besides, do you want to mount your $500 thrustmaster or fanatec wheel on a $150 dollar wheel stand pro? That's like putting a Ferrari engine in Ford Pinto.
