Obviously Mission 34 is just about the hardest thing in the game for most of us. I sat at 99.8% complete for weeks and weeks before I finally beat it.
+ rep for the rest of your post.

M34 was actually quite easy for me. Mind you I'd done all Nurb races for 200 points before I even (looked) attempted this test. All the stories scared me away from it. Very early braking and keeping away from 5 sec penalties saw me win with 4sec lead.
Caught up with the #5 at the start of the 'straights' leading up to Caroussel. From there on it wasn't too difficult IF you brake early.

M12 Laguna Seca with a 🤬 GT I found a lot harder!

AMG.

After 2 months I've finally done it! :sly: I still had to use a lot of grass cutting in 1 place though. I drive with a G25 with all driving aid off and it was really really difficult trying to handle such a heavy car in such a narrow road with so many tight corners.

Most of the advice has alread been given, I'll give some that I think might help:

1) When using late breaking into a corner, resist the temptation to turn into the corner too early. Because of the high entry speed, the momentum is huge and if you start turning too early, you will slide side ways and lose time.

2) Don't slow down too much going into a corner, if you can master it, letting the rear of the car drift to get a better straight line exit would improve your cornering speed thus improving your overall time. 1 and 2 might seem contradictory but if you practice it, you would shorten your braking distance when going into a corner and maintain a higher cornering speed thus greater corner exit speed thus getting a very good cornering time.

3) Focus on exit speed when entering the long straights. I think this has already been covered in previous thread but it is worth repeating.

4) The biggest problem I had was hitting the 2 13+s needed during the check point "Before Ex-Muhle" and "After Bergwerk". Practice these 2 and the rest would fall in place.

I'm going to try to beat this without that grass cutting. From all my previous tries, my biggest problem was getting all my good split times into 1 run. :ouch:

I completed all the missions with my winning of #34 last weekend. I ended up winning by 2.6 seconds with a 5 second penalty on the run out of Bergwerk when I hit the 5th placed car.

As people have mentioned, brake earlier than you think. Up until the weekend, I was very consistant in that car around the Ring, nearly always 6.5 - 8.5 seconds off the leader. Then I made myself drive differently and really focus on mid-turn speed, I was amazed how much faster I could get around most of the corners when I braked a little earlier and turned in forcefully, but a bit earlier as well. The extra few miles an hour in the center of a corner can help heaps up the next straight if you dont muck the exit up.

Good luck to all who are still trying, with my 200 A-spec win in the Nurby 4 hour race, I class Mission 34 as my real achievments of GT4 so far.

cheers

Charlie

Lost by 3.6 seconds last night. Mowed some lawns, caught up with the damn 300SL and punted him into the pit wall. Then spun out in the next turn.
I'm getting really annoyed, as I've been stuck at 99.8% for over 5 months now. In addition, every single Nurbugring licence test I have gotten gold on (all but the RX-7 one was on the first try), and I breezed through pretty much all of the driving missions,

Try, in this very thread, posts 94, 261, and 487, for starters.

Granted, it's a large thread, but it's full of useful stuff, maybe you should have a read. . . . .

Thank you.

However, I have looked around. A search for "settings" in this thread didn't appear to yield any results, and I didn't feel like wading through 35 pages.

I finally did it. Cheated like crazy with cutting corners and wall riding the Carussel (sp?), but I don't care. I won by 0.040 seconds, and got the 100% completion. I'm still workin towards all golds in the licenses, and I got all golds in every license except for S, and I got the gold on the first two tests for that one.

Obviously Mission 34 is just about the hardest thing in the game for most of us. I sat at 99.8% complete for weeks and weeks before I finally beat it. Each of the tests and missions is meant to put you in a specific situation with a specific set of circumstances, to teach you a specific thing about the car, the track, or the driving style, or just to pose a specific challenge. The mission could have been designed around driving the AMG instead of the SLR, but it would still have been set up to be the hardest thing in the game to complete, as the other cars would have been at different intervals, the AMG's settings and tires would have been nearly unusable, etc. Criticizing the mission's design because of which car was used is pointless. So is pointing out that properly tuned, another car could maybe do a better job. You don't get to pick your settings for the missions, you take what was given, and do the task at hand.

The balance between too hard and too easy is not easy to find - the PAL version of M34 is disappointingly easy - that 5 seconds makes all the difference (as all the people that have come within 5 sec of winning on the NTSC version no doubt know).

There should be something in a game this large that is very difficult to complete - almost everything else in the game is easy - a couple of the missions are a bit tricky and a few of the licences are difficult to gold but nothing seems to compare to the NTSC M34 - I am so sad we (PAL) missed out.

I DID IT I DID IT I DID IT....wooooo!:dunce:
wow did i try it a LOT of times..but finally I made it! Stupid r89c isnt really worth it but whatever, another step closer to 100%! Only sarthe II left..

The R89C is worth it. Not for speed but for balance.👍

 Congrats on completing the final driving mission. I only just completed it a few days ago. The first time I passed it I forgot to save it :grumpy: and so I had to do it again:banghead: When you completed it, what part of the track did you pass the final car? It would be good to swap notes on how each of us was able to finally complete it and the way we both attacked the track. It was pretty hard to complete. Since I have done it twice and beat the final car by .05 (half a second) to the finish it would be good to find out how you did.

Finally passed it last night. OMG I couldn't believe it. I was so happy and so relieved to pass it. One step closer to 100%.

Heres my split times:
-1'49.490
-1'40.475
-1'33.358
-1'20.217
-1'07.387
-56.235
-41.524
-32.535
-26.111
-14.764
-6.382
+0.120

I had a few little mistakes that when they happened I thought it was over. Did alittle accidental drifting at Flugplatz. :embarrassed: I also went off into the grass some at Adenauer-Forst. Luckily I didn't loose control when I did that. The only other mistake I did was when I went off into the grass and the wall(not hard enough for a penalty thankfully) at Schwalbeaschwanz. It felt like I was in that grass for an eternity and I thought I'd loose a bunch of time. Turns out it was ok as I passed the Evo sooner than I ever did before the 2nd to last checkpoint. I'm pretty sure thats the only mistakes I did. I'm going to check the replay again to make sure.

It obviously wasn't the cleanest run but it wasn't a bad run either. It was a very good run for me and I made it the cleanest run I could with that car. I feel good to finally pass it with a good run.

I've beaten Mission 34 three times, and now it has become my favorite Mission
in the entire hall. When I passed the final car, it was on the straightaway to the first corner. The race was clean, no contact with any of the cars, and I didn't use "shortcuts". Driving the Mclaren is easy once you get used to the weight, just remember to brake early and most importantly, trailbrake.

It's a great feeling when you finally pass this mission. I attempted it for the second time a few days ago, and passed the 300SL just before the ultra high-speed corner on the straight. I was really amazed at how much my driving skill had improved between when I first passed the mission and my second attempt.

I still haven't passed it.
I find the Mercedes pretty hard to drive... My closest time was 0.187 behind !!!!!!! :banghead:

But, I'm confident I'll get it... Even before the end of the week :sly:

Well your a lot closer than me, im still just under 5 seconds away, but i've improved a lot in the past day or two.

EDIT - I've done it now, so only the Formula GT Championship to go for 100%

I finally beat this mission last weekend and god does it feel like a relief. Like a weight has been lifted and can get on with my days knowing there is nothing I need to finish before going to bed or work or something. Thanks to all who helped by submitting info on the best ways to beat this mission. What worked for me was patience and time, as you can see by my last posting in here.

Well, thought I'd submit my two cents. :)

1st post! (for me)

I've been reading this thread alot to get tips on how to win the stupid mission:ouch:
And then finally (after hours of driving, +1 minute and 55 seconds every time... I have PAL) I won!!!

The only possible way that I could win was by cutting thru' the grass alot of times...

Well, somehow I want to thank for all the good tips on this thread:)

I'm about ready to send the disc back to Sony in little pieces. Before my original PS2 died a year and a half ago, I was at 99.8%, with 70 gold and 10 silver. I probably had over 50 attempts at Mission 34. Since buying a used PS2 a few weeks ago, I've been trying to complete the game. So far, I've tried Mission 34 another 30 times. My best is 1.2 seconds out of first.

This might be the first GT game I don't complete. I don't even feel like getting all golds (all golds in 1, 2, and 3).

BTW, between GT4 and Forza, I've got over 1000 laps at this track, so I know it well.

So, since you say you know the track well, you may do big mistakes on braking-cornering. Braking at the right time is the key to win.

It's hard but not impossible. And when you're that close on winning it's just a matter of time before you win:tup:

I'm sure you're gonna win soon!

i've got within 4 seconds of it now, tried again yesterday. i just can't go any faster; within 4 seconds of it is all i can manage... any tips where i can gain a few seconds?

And the developers at PD shall die horrible deaths for putting in that dog-danged 2 minute wait.

Grr!

yeah that's horrible; so annoying to wait. the other cars should just start ahead of you...

any tips where i can gain a few seconds?

Check your T times with others that have posted before you. That should give you a starting point as to where you are gaining or losing ground.

AMG.

Try cutting the grass, it gives you a thew seconds
And if you're already doing it, then the only tip from me is to be... lucky...

So, since you say you know the track well, you may do big mistakes on braking-cornering.

That makes no sense.

Just to further show how stupid mission 34 is, I decided to run S-16, since in my first attempt two years to the day, I had a silver. ON MY FIRST ATTEMPT, I beat gold time by over a sec. Then I went to S-15 (Bentley at Le Mans) and took three attempts to gold by over a sec. And then five attempts to take gold with the Audi R8 at Infineon. With this confidence, I went back to mission 34. Two attempts, not even close. :grumpy:

This mission is almost totally different from anything else in the game. It's like to have to learn everything from the beginning again.

I see that there's people who is still strugling with M34. Cutting the grass is one of the keys, but you also might need turn on "jesus" called active steering and select steering mode to "amateur". This might sound like cheating but these things can be selected by anyone and those things makes SLR like 4WD car and you don't need to worry about dozens of wheel spins 'cos of cutting grass or losing traction on bumpy, high speed corners, just use brakes when you see that SLR is understeering and going to wall. ;)

I believe that feeling after beating M34 is great no matter how you've done it, by clean drive or cutting grass or/and using some steering aids. :)

For those of you who recently have posted problems with this mission keep plugging away. It took me alomost eight months to beat this mission. I am now ironically up to winning it 34 times NTSC and one win was a 9:09.284. Once you get it you can get it again. One tip is to try to get under seven seconds in practice with the SLR. I was able to work the time down to 6:57 and change and then get into the mission. I find the purchased SLR is not as responsive in second gear as the mission car and it has a heavier feel on the track. It is not as squirrely on the track as the mission car. Knowing this allows for the adjustment getting into the mission. Don't let this mission beat you!!!!!!!!!
