Even though it sounds too obvious to say, I'll say it anyway... but the two most important steps I took that lead me to pass this Mission were these:-

1. Learn the circuit
2. Practice with the car

For 1. (Learn the circuit), pick a car you really like, and one that you can handle... mine was the Audi TT Touring Car (as part of the WRS competition)... I spent a week learning the circuit so well, I was literally having dreams about it... after a week of trying to beat your own time in any one given car, you will know the track...

For 2., I started practicing with a similar Merc., that handled very similarly to the car in the test. It took me a while to realise that the Merc McLaren is pretty heavy and likes to be braking early (in order to take corners smoothly)... I didn't spend much time on this aspect though...

After this, I attempted Mission 34 (after coming nowhere near passing it before)... it took just three attempts to pass...

Obviously, there are a few other key aspects:- practice overtaking cleanly... you can't afford any 5 second penalties. Practice the circuit on the final license test... you will almost certainly always be quicker in a clean lap than by taking short-cuts. Brake early... slow-in, fast-out really pays off at the 'Ring.

This is the best hint, i have vacation now, and time to practice so i WILL be able to do this damn mission, wish me luck:nervous:

I finally beat this mission with a clean lap.The first time I wall rode around the karussell beat it by .086. The second time was a clean lap with minor mistakes and beat it by .387. The third time was another clean lap with a big oversteer just before the karussell and beat it by .763.
How I prepared was by buying the stock slr Mclaren and practicing with it, however I found that it handled better than the mission car but it seemed like the accelerator would stick.
The key to beating this mission is to learn the track and do lots of laps

btw I have the ntsc version

Dude, you don't need proof when you beat it by 0.7 seconds. I beat it by about 1.2 seconds. Do you want proof for that as well?

Err, no. Herburt has posted a perfectly believable story that tallies up. He is not stating he beat the race by an impossible margin. You were asked for proof because you said you beat the 300SL by 9 seconds. This is impossible to do. that is why you were asked for proof.

I actually beat it by 0.8 sec, not 1.2 (I thought it was something around that): https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2335370&postcount=550

And if anybody *cough cough* requires proof I beat the mission, I'll take a photo of my 89C when I get my flash drive tomorrow...

Hey man you do not need to prove nothing to this guy he seems to get defensive easly:tdown: It is truly inescabably possible to beat this mission by 0.8 sec in the NTSC version with a clean run:) I was also unhappy with my cheating on the M34 to beat it I have the american version as well. So I decided to practice the nurburgring for hours with the SLR McLaren so yesterday I decided to do this missiom cleanly with no wallrides at all or lawn mowing, and I beat it by 0.838 seconds though it took me 4 hours:grumpy:

Oh and topgeardude calm down man.

Omg. i've done this mission the first time and crashed at the long straight.. 30 second behind the first car and 6th place. Lack of self confidence is extremely high :nervous:

I found this mission extremly tough the first time around. After hours and hours of trying ( and a broken DS2 later) I was able to accomplish victory. I was coming up on the last corner flying up behing the last car. Overshot slightly and passed him in the grass just barely getting the win. Won by .03! :scared:

The second time I passed this challange it wasn't nearly as hard. Took me two tries. I wasn't even used to the car, otherwise it would have only took me one try. I was able to take the win by over a second! It was ridiculous. I couldn't understand how I was able to finish it in fifteen minutes for my friend, but on my first attempt it took me days!

Then I realized something. I had been at this whole GT4 thing for year. I must have put in a couple thousand laps at this track, not a hundred like before. I had come a long way from the first try. 💡

So my main advice to all those who struggle is just to keep practicing the track and don't worry what kind of car you use to practice. The track holds the secrets to success and fast lap times. You just have to unlock them. I used to think I had fast laps at the Ring back in the day. A couple years later I could crush those times by 20 seconds.

To go fast on the Ring you have to go beyond what you think is possible and push the envolope of cornering speed until it tears in half!

Good Luck! :)

Thats a good piece of advice.

I must also say that the ring can't be driven fast unless the driver knows it forwards and backwards. I'm talking about the same subjects as everyone else, the ring must be driven probably hundreds of times until one can master it.
I had driven the ring maybe a hundred times before I even discovered that there was driving missions

It's all about the lines you take really, so many linked corners, you need to compromise on early ones to get the fastest exit out of the last one that leads to a straight, or whatever. You have to know when to turn in late, or early, or whether or not to hug this corners exit to take the next one faster.. there are few corners that can be taken 'normally'. free your mind and think laterally etcetfdccccc

fyi passed this challenge 2nd time tried, horrific crash from some small flight time ended the first attempt.

I finally beat this mission last night....took a few trys but got it in under .30 secs...I'm soo happy, the prize car is sweet, too

this sucks i just got 4 seconds behind and me thinks my terrible spin right after the long ending straight cost me the win. i swear thats the hardest part of this mission... trying to slow down from 190mph and keep control of the car lol

omg i just beat it!!! hooray!!

i used 2 lawn mowing short cuts and wall rode the karussell but i dont care as long as i win lol

heres my splits.

01: +1.51.137
02: +1.42.215

now i just have to do the superbird one :( lol

Coming Back to the Mission 34.. which is what we are meant to be talking about.. if you tune the SLR and the SL 65 AMG you will find that the SLR sucks compared to the SLR.. so why dont they swap them and make it easier? and the SL 65 dusnt have a big ass to haul about as you fly aroudn the corners..

I Get 3rd with 16 seconds away from Leader.. =/ Gayness is Provailing

Huh? I guess you meant the SLR sucks compared to the AMG?

Perhaps the point was actually to make it difficult. Sort of on purpose, like. So a player would have to, like, be really really gud at it b4 they cud win.

That's the point of the license tests and the missions. You have to learn how to drive, how to race, before you can beat them, or get a gold time. You have to learn the track. How boring would it be to just drop in and win everything there was just because you knew which side of the stick was left or right? You want Pole Position you might could find an Atari 2600 on eBay.

Obviously Mission 34 is just about the hardest thing in the game for most of us. I sat at 99.8% complete for weeks and weeks before I finally beat it. Each of the tests and missions is meant to put you in a specific situation with a specific set of circumstances, to teach you a specific thing about the car, the track, or the driving style, or just to pose a specific challenge. The mission could have been designed around driving the AMG instead of the SLR, but it would still have been set up to be the hardest thing in the game to complete, as the other cars would have been at different intervals, the AMG's settings and tires would have been nearly unusable, etc. Criticizing the mission's design because of which car was used is pointless. So is pointing out that properly tuned, another car could maybe do a better job. You don't get to pick your settings for the missions, you take what was given, and do the task at hand.

I have now beaten the mission by 1.045 sec and I would like to upload the replay to the internet so people can view it

How do I do this?

I have figured it out . I should be able to post the video today

I have the replay on my computer, however I'm having problems with my web space at my isp. So I will post a link to the replay hopefully by next week:)

I tried to register with u tube, but guess what, the user name herburt is already taken. So if I register with a different name then who will know its my replay?

Here is the link to my replay video http://www.livevideo.com/video/336222622662453EA868F32B72380375/mission-34.aspx

but now i'm trying to win cleanly

3 cheating attemps
