i am good at the ring for the first 3/4 until the section after karoussel where everything goes to hell. does anyone have any tips for that specific section.
Work on license test A-16 until you can gold it consistently.

ps i double posted so someone would notice
Oh, someone will notice, I'm sure. You may wish they hadn't.

I'm on such a high right now, after 4 days of trying to beat this final mission, I made it.

The main trouble is the suspension - really springy - and passing the cars in front, because the 'Ring's road is narrower than a normal racetrack, it's almost like driving Monaco with no room for error.

I drove much more aggressively on this lap than the previous 4 days, almost drifting corners by applying the brakes lightly forcing the car to turn into the corner with the end kicking out. Passed the 300 SL on the penultimate corner and spent a lot of time punching the air after finishing the lap with a 2 second lead. The credit prize and the bonus car makes it extra sweet. :D

Having a rest now for a few minutes, driving with the DFP in a racing seat has actually caused me to lose a smidge of weight over the past 4 days because I've been driving the 'Ring so intensely and it's been really hot here, and I've ended up a tad exhausted.

But yeah, it's nigh on impossible that race. Good luck chaps!

I'm happy for you man, hopefully i can get it within the next couple days. I usually drive agressively and that puts me in good position but when it comes to pass the 4th car i am going to fast on too tight a road and end up getting a 5 second penalty. As for the weight loss, I am using a ps3 controller with no vibration and I am in my basement where it is freezing no matter what the temperature outside is. Congrats though man hopefully i can finish it too.

I'm an older member, close to 60 years of age. I put up two of my videos for beating Mission 34 with no grass-cutting. The easiest way to win is practice, practice and practice. I always hated practicing this Mission because I hated waiting for it to start. In a way that's helped because I make sure I don't screw up by driving relatively conservatively and not going off course.

The videos were done on the PS2 NTSC version with a Dual Shock Controller and Manual Shifting. The race itself is a lot of fun and the car isn't all that bad. It pulls very well from low RPMs. You just need to keep your speed up to make time. There's about three critical points where you need to make time and once you catch those sections well, you can win easily.

Watch the videos carefully:

Two different races from different perspectives. 👍

Those are awesome races SirBerra +rep

Being so good at lower revs, do you not think it could handle well when it's not floored? Or rather, keep the gears high and the revs low, kinda like when you're trying to get a good time with the TVR Spped 12... ever tried that one?

Hey Diego,
I never cared much for the Speed 12, but I haven't used one in over a year. I always found it kind of slippery to drive on twisty courses. I have a tendency to light the tires up too easily. I never quite mastered partial throttle racing. My PS2 controller always seemed more like an on-off switch for me. I'm going to give it a try on the 'Ring. I'd probably do better with a Speed 6.

this one is going to take a while. as i make this post, the count down is starting again. and as of this post, ive never seen the first place car.

maybe im driving too agreesively, but, i wish they had balanced the car a little more towards front end grip.

When I first started racing Mission 34, I was finishing behind the third place Evo. It was pretty pathetic. I only liked racing with soft racing tires, so I'd be sliding all over the place with the McLaren. I flat out didn't know the course well enough so I was guessing turns. I know the course with my eyes closed now since I've raced endurances and Missions there around 100 times. You probably are driving too agressively and it's easy to understand. Always trying to make up time after you mess up a turn or two. Consistency is what's required. Learn each section and build up speed. Relax if you can. Keep the car on the course and complete each race whether you're behind or not. My first wins were filled with grass-cutting just to get the Mission out of the way. Now I drive Mission 34 just for fun and it's much easier. Don't give up, just get more practice.

I was playing around on some other runs and testing how far I could fall behind and still win on the NTSC version. I was able to win by a half-second even though I was about six or so car lengths behind the black Evo at the start of the back straight. I got a good run in the right hand turns and pulled a draft on the Evo. I caught the second place Merc as he started going downhill and caught a straight shot to the Gullwing just as it was turning uphill to the right. You really have to be easy on braking or you'll end up fishtailing like crazy. Easy, easy braking on the concrete will do the deed. You can make up for early bad splits, but a bad split halfway through the race, you'd really have to push hard to make up time. Once you start driving really agressively, you'll probably make a fatal error. :)

I finally finished Mission 34 earlier tonight, after a week or so, it is so good to have it over and done with. It was definately my best lap and with only 2 grass cuts and 1 e-brake turn. I am pretty happy now that i can start doing other races but I have probably forgotten the tracks. Here are my splits if anyone is interested:

+1`49.991
+1`40.785
+1`31.194
+1`18.915
+1`05.186
+53.219
+37.316
+30.872
+25.049
+14.270
+5.715
-0.513

****ing +1.7 secs :grumpy: At least now I know where's my problem, on specific parts of the track I could go a little faster, my first split is always like 1.41.

EDIT: God damnit! I did it! With -0.526. The last split was around 3-4 sec, I paniced a bid so I drove the last section reaaaallly slow.

Riding the curbs help, too...

Drifting also could possibly play an important role in getting those extra tenths, as the SLR McLaren has little grip traveling through a corner in a literal line. Thus, it makes sense to exploit this shortcoming on the car.

FWIW. I did this a couple weeks ago and thought I'd contribute my winning splits as guidance:

And offer pointers to good maps for training:

And a truly excellent pdf guide from BMW:

| Winning Splits:
| 1'50.3
| 1'43.3
| 1'34.1
| 1'21.3
| 1'07.4
| 55.8
| 40.0 <- Pass SL 65 rounding the Karussel
| 31.1 <- Pass SL 55 going into to Eiskurve (just before CP)
| 25.5
| 14.2 <- Pass Evo halfway between Galgenkopf and the CP
| 5.8 <- Pass SLK 230 just after the CP
| +.7 <- Relaxed a bit and got ready for the sprint after the last curve!

NOTE: I had two big offs before Aremburg, losing about 2 seconds in the process. More realistically, you should be striving to hit CP #2 (Aremburg) at about 1'41.5. AND, this was not clean. I used 1 big grasscut (over the Adenaur-Forst hill just before CP#3) and 3 Wallrides (Breidsheid just before CP #5, a little bit at Mutkurve just before CP #6 and the Karussell just before CP#7).

I don't particularly like cheating so much to win... but the NTSC version is so damn difficult to begin with. :guilty:

Oh... and BTW.
There is an 11 second difference between the PAL and NTSC version. :ouch:

PAL: 115 second wait, Lead car finishes at ~9'16 (+/- .5 sec)
NTSC: 123 second wait, Lead car finishes at ~ 9'13 (+/- .5 sec)

Sigh... if only we could import the version across the pond...

Oh man. I just ran got 12 seconds behind the leader. I've only been practising for about two or three days now. I also messed up a few times, and got two 5 seconds penalties.

Double post yes, but oh my god. I finally beat this, by 0.800 seconds. I swear to god, when I passed the last car.. man it was awesome.

I'd offer my congrats on the 100%, but i presume B-Spec Bob can't read. It looks asif you only ran about 20% of the races yourself, man. Good job getting Mission 34, I'm only back into it again after an enforced GT4 layoff due to an accident.

Previously, the closest i got was 6 secs, am back down to a 9 sec gap this time around.

OK, I made it through all the other missions in the last few days, after alot of swearing and so forth. Wish me luck in trying to beat this monster!! I'm using PAL version, so it seems I should count myself lucky :-)

I B-spec'd all endurance races except for Super Speedway, and I did a few hours in the 24 hour races. I also B-spec'd most of the F1 Championship. That's why my B-spec miles are high, my B-spec points are high because I was trying to go for 10,000, but then I couldn't find any more points, previously I had about 7,000 points.

This course is brutally hard, I have been trying it for two weeks and the best I can get is third. There is just no room for error, thing is I am @ 99.8% and didn't want to start playing Tourist trophy until I finished it. Oh well, guess tourist trophy is gonna be sitting there for a while.

:Rant / on:
Who in the 🤬 was the programmer who created this farce?

Give the driver this heavy tub of goo with no option to turn the driving aids off, pit him against other cars that have between 2 minutes and a 30 second head start. And watch the driver 🤬 himself trying to navigate a great course in a car that is constantly being bogged down!

This mission wouldn't be as 🤬 up if you could disengage the driving aids. Every time I do this mission the aids light is constantly flashing. Coming off the large straight away the driving aids had caused the car to spin out on numerous occasions. Along with putting me into the grass, walls, etc.!!!!!!

How in the 🤬 has anyone completed this mission? I was so 🤬 last night trying to come close to completing this mission that I almost broke in half my DS2!!

The only time I completed this POS I was still in last place and over 22 seconds behind the first place car. I had basically given up when I was tapped by another car on the final straight and the car went into a spin. (Thanks again to the 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 driving aids!!!) Only to come to a stop somewhere near the end of the lap to be blasted by the cars that were behind me. To be honest, I don’t even know how the car made it over the finish line because I spiked the controller and walked away at that point.

🤬 this mission!!!!!

:Rant / off:

:ouch: :grumpy: :irked:  :irked:  :grumpy: :ouch:

...but, when you do get it, it's a great feeling.

The anxiety on the last overtake, and the adrenaline rush in the end, I haven't ever felt that playing a video game ever before.

argh just tried it, I took the first car over before carrousel, and was heading for the win but got on the gras on the long straight and spun out and finished 2 seconds behind the sl300:crazy:now i can wait another 2 minutes before trying again..:(
tried it again, this time I missed it by a third of a second..:S
edit again: i took the first car on the long straight way before carousel, after that i ****ed everything up but still won:), so it shouldn't be so hard..only there are to many places to make mistakes and the car sucks

Damnit, I CANNOT pass this!! My beat time is a 9:18.3 and I know I need at least a 9:13 to win, but I can't pick up those blasted 5 seconds! I dunno if I'm being too conservative or what. I just can't get that magic lap. I'm always either pushing too hard causing me to run off track, or being too conservative it feels like.

In short terms: I NEEDZ HELP!!!!:grumpy:

Brake earlier.

Do NOT try to carry speed into or through a turn. It slows you down coming out, which costs you in the long run.

Exit speed is KING!!!!

i just finished that mission about 2 weeks back. i tried tonnes and tonnes of times, but, the most important thing is to keep your cool and patience. it worked for me ;)

to check and see if your on the pace, you should overtake and gain 5th place before the Caroussel.

use that long straight, and get down the power of the SLR, tap the brakes, and don't carry too much of speed in the corner. otherwise, you'll understeer, go on the grass and hit the wall.
