Ran clean an 8'50.338 lap time, only 1 tricky AI overtakige, just before sector 9 from memory, the ultra fast chickane section, avoided contact by a millimetre lol

...it looked more like a drunk monkey got a hold of a set of keys to a very expensive car, and went for a ride. . .

....

My finish time was 9:13.280 making my actual lap time somewhere around 7:10.280 taking away the 2:03 that they make you wait at the starting line.

That time gives me some sort of hope, as I just completed a personal best 7:09.729 lap in the 4hr 'Ring Endurance Race, so my practice is making progress. Keep in mind, that lap wasn't all that clean either, and if yours was drunk monkey, then mine was a dyslexic chimp on heroin. :) I had at least two offs, and know of at least three corners I need work on, then consistency.

I'm working on it, although it might be 2011, and you'll be 100% complete on GT5 when I get 'er done!

Ta-taa, done, 100% game completion achieved :sly::sly::sly:

I´m playing the PAL version, AT and DS controller. The first time I ever tried mission 34 was about 2 month ago. I bought a SLR, practiced some rounds and tried the mission 3 times. Best result was 3rd place with 6 sec back.

Yesterday I had some time to try again. First some practice rounds to get the feeling for the car, then my first try: 9 seconds back with 5 (!) penalties. I was pushing it too much. 2 more tries with stupid mistakes, but I finished the lap for practice. Try 4 and 5 3 sec. down each with some penalties.

Than my 6th try. According to the splits my best try so far. Closing in on 5th place shortly after Bergwerk, but hitting him from behind, trying to pass him. Man, that slowed me down in the uphill section, but I continued. The rest of the lap was pretty constant without any more penalties. After passing the 190 entering the long straight, I realized that even with that massive mistake I will have a shot at it. Brought it home save, MOV 1,xxx sec.

To tell you the truth, in the PAL version there are a lot of missions more difficult than this one. So I was not very enthusiastic afterwards. Maybe I just had luck. To find out, I retried the mission. 3rd try and I did it again. So it was no luck, but there is really nothing to be afraid of. So I spend about 2 hours for practice and to complete the mission twice.

Best advice I can offer is to have a look at some of the videos on you tube, buy an SLR, practice a little and give it a try. Even if the lap is not good, finish to practice all sectors. Look at the split times only until you pass the first car, afterwards just concentrate on driving.

Congrats on attaining such a great achievement! It's amazing that you could reach 100% completion ;)

Congratulations, Tetraeder! It's a really good feeling to have everything finished, isn't it? :)

Yes, it took me little more than one year to get to 100%, but I´m still going after a-spec points. In this catagory I´m not finished yet :D

Also I have some "work" to do to improve my licences. But still, after reaching 100.000 a-spec points last October, this is the next milestone for me. Thanks for the nice words.

I'm doing 200 A-Spec points races for fun, not really after those 100.000, but it's worth being taken into cosideration, though. 👍

In fact, I think I've only done it once with a manual gearbox.

There's no need to switch to manual gearbox for this mission. I see dozens of people here saying you need to switch gearbox, in fact, I've yet to drive a manual with my DS2. I started GT4 over again, and pretty much completed every mission from the first go (except for the Skyline mission). The trick with this test is to get into the apex of every corner. I found this car to handle surprisingly well and very balanced compared to some of the massive understeery cars of other missions. I passed the SL65 on the long straight before the Carousel corner, passed the SL500 in the twisty section after it, passed the 190 EVO on the half Carousel corner just before the final straight, and I passed the 300SL and SLK on the long straight. I finished 6.7 seconds in front of the 300SL (without the grass cutting cheat). No need for manual gearbox, just get your braking points right, get into the apex and get some good speed out of the corner and you'll be fine.

I have to agree with Bram. I have done the mission on four different gamesaves, all with auto. One thing I can say is to hold the gear on the final sprint to the finish line. I once missed by .002 and I know the lag during the shift made me miss.

I've tried this mission a few time with manual 'box last week. It's just too difficult and i've failed like hell. In fact, i've yet to complete this mission at all with manual.

I'll be switching back to auto to give it a go.

I came 3 sec off the last attempt. I tend to lift through some corners, let the car balance itself, before accelerating hard.

1st attempt - 10 secs off
2nd attempt - 5-6 secs off
3rd attempt - 3+secs off

I normally catch the 5th place SL just after the Karusell, but lose a bit of time to get past it.

Phew! After 8 tries, I finally managed to beat it!

I drove a clean lap. During the first few tries, I alwas kept hitting the Kompressor near the end of the straight:banghead:

I managed to beat it to the line barely 0.5 seconds ahead:D:

Congrats! I could have nailed it yesterday, but i had difficulties overtaking the 2nd SL just before the pits...

What are you talking about? I did a quick search on Youtube, and the first result for Mission 34 was this video, which starts at 1'55 (and so is PAL) and clearly shows "SM/SM" at the beginning.

I'm KILLING myself a little at a time with this mission. My dogs hate me because they don't understand that I'm not swearing at them, My wife keeps asking if there is anything she can do(?). I have 80 golds, I aced S16 on the first try, I test all my tunes on this damn track. I took my own SLR with TCS on 2 with SM's shod (6:57.xxx); I put on SH's and turned TCS to 3 (7:02.xxx); I then added 50kg centered (7:06.xxx) but....

I CAN'T PASS THIS MISSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck: AGHHHHH!!!!!!

WHAT THE HELLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where are you losing out? I mean time wise...

Where are you losing out? I mean time wise...

It appears that I lose approx 4 secs by the time I get to Bergwerk / Kesselschen. Then I lose lose 3 secs by the next CP. (#$%@*) I know that this section is my downfall, but for the life of me I can't find the right line or speed. At that point I begin to self destruct and am finishing 3rd consistantly 2.xxx seconds behind the 2nd place MB.

I need help. My life is in shambles and I think I may cry!:ouch:

Edit: Dan posting his 8'50".xxx is just plain mean.

Edit: Alright, I calmed my arse down and thought through the whole track. I realized I wasn't attacking in the right sectors. I also realized that the Arcade TT is a closer representation of this mission. Ran that a few times with lower HP and no aids, some aids, all aids. Went back and was able to consistantly pass the 5th place MB at the Carousel (found my lost 7 secs). Got run off the road a couple of times by the 4th place sucker, and decided that I needed a break. Today I will return with a new found confidence. This mission WILL NOT DESTROY ME!!!:banghead:

Edit: Hells Yeah!! Clean, No cheats. Really!

It was amazing, the 300sl actually tried to take me out. I had to tailgate him for awhile, until the last turn for fear of a penalty! Me thinks I actually could have been in the 9'09-10s. I'm fairly happy now.:)

The trick for me, was to stay on the gas at all costs! Didn't ever get lower than half throttle. It kept the car stable and seemed to reduce the understeer somewhat.

Only if it was meant to hurt. Which I know it wasn't. :)

Welcome to the land of OZ! You earned it. 👍
