I don't know anyone who has done this Mission with an automatic gearbox...

I did it on automatic, overtook the 300SL on the long straight just as i passed the pits.

PAL region though... So it was easier. I might have done it just if it was the NTSC version, but i doubt it. I could of improved my time, i tend to lose control of this car a lot, it has way too much understeer entering the corners. If i could turn TCS/ASM off maybe it would be easier.

I will be attempting it on manual in a bit, been doing the missions most of the day and i'm on no. 29 at the moment. I'm re-doing them all on a new save. The only one i failed to do last time was the Skyline one (mission 23).

EDIT: After doing 29-33 all first time :D I'm now having a go at this one. Sit back and wait tum tee tum.

Update: 9:22, 5 seconds off, with three 5 second penalties. It should be no problem this time now i am used to the car.

Final update: 9:10:867 :D second time.

I guess all those time trials with my 88c-v a few years ago paid off, i know this track so well, i understand how its almost impossible for newcomers, the track does take a bit of learning, and this test is not the best way to learn it.

Quick update.

My NTSC AI 300SL has started running 9:12s. Goodness Gracious!

Mine too. And 34 is the only thing standing between me and 100% completion. Just practicing the track and trying to get my time down to a consistent 7'06.xxx before I really run this thing. Down in the 7'12.xxx area. Want to be another AT guy to do it. :) Running in the online races has helped alot.

Ive been wasting my Saleen on a few 24hr races to get more aspec points for the manufacturer race lately, so i got some good practice on the ring. I took the SLR there for practice with s1/s2 tires and no traction. It seemed to be a fairly similar setup to the test, I did two sloppy 7.17 practice laps and then headed for the mission. I was surprised to see the car handled very similarly to my setup, but I was able to run a 9.24, 11 seconds off. Second try was 6.558 off. Its coming along. Im using an auto as well, though I hold onto gears using r2. I just need to get to the point where I can carry insane speed through the tricky corners. Right now im playing it safe and just trying to stay on the track.

AHAHHAHAH!!!!1!1!! I got it~! I got home from work and ran a few practice runs with nothing spectacular. First actual try I was 2.5 seconds back which I saw as good because my lap was somewhat sloppy and I knew where to improve. Second run I was .480 sec off, and I had two penalties so I knew it was getting close. The third run I botched the first section, so I got to wait another two minutes. The fourth run had a good start, I passed all the cars at earlier times so I knew it was going well. My only concern was that on the second run I could draft the E190 so gain some straightline speed, and I had passed it about 20 seconds too soon on the fourth try. It didnt matter, but the SLK got in my way for the last few braking points and I hit the wall, but by the time I stopped spinning the penalty was over! I came right up to the 300SL right before the last turn. Followed him through slowly, and made the easy pass, with .820 seconds to spare. Im fairly confident my neighbors heard my yelling.

Oh yeah, with an automatic and the DS2.
100%!!

i'm still struggling to complete this mission. Just this and the NY Toyota Mission.

I'm still struggling with M34, but I was able to get the NY Toyota mission. It does take some very clean laps, but it was fun, too. My biggest struggle, after M34 or course, was the Peugeot in Paris. That took me a couple of months.

I gave up on Mission 34 for the time being. Right now, i'm in the 11th hour of Le Mans.

As for your Peugeot, took me a couple of tries, but surprisingly, i never feel frustrated, because the car handled so well. After that mission, i really like the Paris track :), not the reverse version however...

Now that I completed all of the other missions I´m about to tackle this one. As i understood from some of the posts, the best way to do it, is to buy a SLR and practice with it. For me that makes only sense, if it has about the same settings as the one in the mission. Can anybody help me out with the settings of the SLR in the PAL-version of the mission?

Since you can't view the car's setup for that mission, I would just assume it is a stock setup using S2 tires.

I am another AT guy who has beaten 34. I finally did it on 12/2 at 12:30pm CST. Here are the splits.

T1 + 1’40.655
T2 + 1’30.957
T3 + 1’18.187*
T4 + 1’04.651*
T5 + 53.660*
T6 + 38.371*
T7 + 30.658*
T8 + 24.654
T9 + 13.556
T10 + 5.255
T11 -.594
Final 9’12.929

* I knew I was on a good run because I had never had these numbers before. I even had to slow down before Karussel and before T8 because I didn’t want the penalties.

This was probably the 100+ time doing this mission in the last month. 250+ including practice laps.

Thank you to all who have given me advice here and elsewhere.

From the Tube. Complexstring who gave me an idea how to wallride and some shortcuts.

The guys from Gamespot who had the 35 car Nurburgring Challenge. Gave me variety while practicing the track.

All the posts here at GTP. A ton of info to shave off the .25 secs. here and there.

And to Austin343’s video. Using his clean run gave me a benchmark to gauge where I was during the lap. Ex. At T3 I would think to myself, I’m 2 secs. ahead of Austin343 and so on. Knowing that he would close and run ahead because of his superior turning ability.

I’m at 99.8%. Which for me is game completed. I made the mistake of doing #10 before the first 9 and can’t get there.

Picture to follow.

? I have bronze on coffee break 4 & 5. Would getting silver on those two be where those last .2% be?

Here is the video.

Congratulations! With an auto too, good stuff.

I tried it a few times, then gave it a rest, I don't have that kind of patience. I'll get it done some day though.

At this point, you cannot recover the 0.2% that remains. It's a bug in the NTSC version that fails to register the final portion of completion if your first mission completed is not the first one with the Fiat 500s. Licenses and coffee breaks never count for completion.

Congratulations, of course, on completing Mission 34. 👍

🤬 I didn't know about that bug, have recently re-started my NTSC game and I did M34 first to get it out the way. :dunce: Ohwell, already on 28% complete so be buggered if i'm starting again, i'll buy the black F1 from another gamesave. I'm also surprised I didn't know, thinking back to GT2 I had one of the buggy first batches of that game what only allowed you to have about 98.4% complete or something like that.:(

Oldmodelt -

A Big Congratulations from me!

Well done!👍

If you are like me, you will be on a big high for a week!

All the hard work finally pays off!

Sorry about the bug that you and Nemesis01 (and others) have run into.

Respectfully,

I think if I was really anal about this kinda thing I would just go back and start again, license and driving missions I find quite easy to get through for gold/250pts so that would be ok, done in a day. It's the special conditions races I find a chore, so long and dull and it's not worth it in the end. Congrats oldmodelt btw, M34 is certainly the most tricky of the driving missions, however it is good practise for the rest of the game, there are definitely harder races which M34 prepares you for.

nemesis, I'm not actually certain that you will be unable to reach 100%. The bug might only appear if your first completed mission was one of the "The Pass" missions besides #1, such as #3 or #10, but having never experienced it personally, I couldn't say for sure.

You should be able to do it much faster than me. I would have used Mr. Slowman instead of oldmodelt as my moniker. But it was taken already. Only piece of advice I could give you is that when I was doing the mission. I did the whole run penalties and all. I figured that if I got toward the end on a good run I would know the back end as well as the front. I figured it might take me about 100 tries. Not including practice runs etc. So it took some of the pressure off. But I did get a little testy toward the end. As my grateful "that I passed it finally" family can attest.

Thankfully, I did most of my runs after everyone was asleep. And kept the curse words under my breath. And some doozy combos there were. Might have thought up some new ones.

I managed it within a try or 10... have to look up the exact number. To be really honest, I can't remember it to be that hard (I do have the PAL version though). AT first it is all about getting the car around the track in one piece before building up your speed.

The 1:55 wait pissed me off though. Maybe I will give it another try soon, have been out of full time GT4 playing for some 2 years now so I'm a bit rusty. I still know my way around the nurb though, just not as fast ;)

It's great stuff that you managed to complete it. I recently switched to manual, and i had a go the other day at this mission, and failed miserably :D

Stick with it. Watch the two vids. Complexstring and Austin343's clean if you're good enough are very helpful. I also gave up all other racing to get the feel of the SLR only. Lots of time in Arcade. No waiting. I used 7'06 as my practice goal. Something I read in the thread. The 35 car challenge helped too. Got me going.

I don't know anyone who has done this Mission with an automatic gearbox...

I'm late with this comment, Famine. But you sort of know me, and I've done this mission close to a dozen times with an Auto gearbox.

In fact, I think I've only done it once with a manual gearbox.

When I first went after M34, I was so busy trying to learn/remember the track, and deal with the fact that the SLR has a really really weird gearbox, that I decided I needed to free up the 10-20% of my brain that was worrying about which gear to be in and just deal with steering/throttle/brake. I did complete the mission with auto transmission, and now when I go back to that mission in every new game save (and I've done more than a few of them), I usually switch to Auto for at least mission 34, just because I'm used to it at this point. The one time I did it with a manual gearbox, I think I decided that running Auto was probably giving about a 3 second handicap over the length of the entire lap, compared to running manual. Obviously, that's just a wild guess.

But on my most recent completion of M34, probably a week to 10 days ago, it was in Auto again, and I took it down within an hour or so. Usually I have a good idea by the time I'm going through Adenauer-Forst whether I'm on pace to have a chance at winning, and if I can pass the first AI car by the sharp right hander past Klostertal (that's the right hander at the bottom of the hill leading up to Karussell), then I know that I can do it just by basically being mistake-free for the rest of the lap.

I never completed this one. I have a huge favor to ask, as this thread is so very long.

Can somebody please tell me at what settings in arcade/bought car can I recreate the SLR from the driving hall mission, as well as the average time needed to run on an arcade lap to at least be close to beating this mission? I want to practice practice practice without having to wait two minutes each try.

Thanks in advance should you decide to help. :)

^A good benchmark time is around 7'06. As for setup, just leave it as is using whatever tire is used in the mission.

I think you gotta use 'standard tyres' for your run, as when you buy the car, it will be in sports medium tyres.

I really doubt in the mission you'll be using sports tyres, as the handling is really awful.

No, the car is on Sports Medium tires. TCS 2 and ASM 0 seem to be the correct driving aid settings, but nobody knows what they did to the suspension (or LSD, etc.) of the mission car, because it does behave differently from the standard car even on the same tires.
