Mon 20:00-21:30 UK time - PC2 - Hosted by @IfAndOr - Please refer to new threadPS4

in the first corners is where I personally get most of the rush.
Great. So after that could you perhaps slow down a bit and let us catch up? :mischievous:

It is true that any incident isn't deliberate (well hopefully not) but I can see Andreas' point that in a long race a bad start can sometimes ruin the rest of it. I suppose you could also take the view that there is plenty of time to gain a few places back.

See you all later on in the Merc at that very sharp first corner. Well I hope to see you because then I can avoid you.

It's been a busy day on the thread. :)

@Sick Cylinder there's an update. You'll need 10 mins or so for it to do its stuff.

Yes - I was planning to have a short practise before work and switched on the PS4 - that time was spent updating! As you say a lot of things have been discussed on the threads - I will try to respond to them this week.

I have noticed that the latest update has brought some changes to some cars - it seems that each update messes with either the big Merc or the BMW 2002 SW in GTB - this time the BMW has lost its handling. They have also nobbled the 69 Camaro, cutting 50 bhp - it is now a lot closer to the 66 DLC Mustang, but still a little faster. I will keep planning the future series, but plans may have to change as a result of the SMS updates messing with the cars.

The overall points are on page one. The results from the race are given below together with the results from 1965 which we are mirroring.

Congratulations to podium men Napalm, Richroo and Tavilha, commiserations to Lancervoo who was on for a great result until the accident.

Below amazing 1966 Porsche was restored to better than new condition (over restored in my opinion). Porsche came 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th in 1966 with 2 litre cars very similar to this one.

Above Porsche 962's. Next time some fast Ford's.

I know I haven't been able to drive a lot online but I'll put in my 2 cents the rolling starts are NO PROBLEM if you do a manual formationlap. I don't see the issue in this.

Not overtaking in the first sector is something I'd vote against I'd rather do the manual formationlap.

Also to reduce incidents I believe sms made a big mistake. The spotter and proximity arrows should be manditory.
If people have them off I'm telling you you're ruining your own and other peoples races way more often.

I can't enforce this, but it is essential that people race in the Monday and Wednesday series with the track map and proximity arrows on. This will help to inform you of where other cars are and particularly whether they are competing with you or lapping you.

Personally I can't bear the spotter - I don't like to hear any talking when I'm racing as I find it distracting.

Wet Race at Spa Historic
Spa will be a wet race - the setting will be fog with rain. AI will be off. Please apply the following track discipline - if you are on a straight section and another car is catching please don't hog the centre of the road, please move slightly to one side so that they can pass if they are faster. This is a track with long flat out sections so you should be passing and repassing each other.

This will be our first wet race - hopefully it will be a good one. Be extra careful at the start to allow extra space and avoid bunching at Eau Rouge.

A few more shots from the show on Saturday. Below on the Duncan Hamilton stand there was a rare road spec Ford GT40 Mark One - you could buy a road spec Mark three, but these were relatively ugly and at the time less desirable. Quite a lot of people bought Mark Ones for the road. Ford were happy for John Wyer to sell them to racers or road users because by selling over 50 the car could be reclassified from Group 6 to Group 4 which opened up extra racing opportunities and hence the chance for more wins.

Above - slight caption error the Mach One had a Cobra Jet not Super Cobra Jet badge. Test for @IfAndOr Can you identify the orange car beside the Boss Mustang? You were right earlier about the Miura.

That'll be an Alfa Romeo Montreal. One of my "I must get one of those" cars as a lad. I haven't got one yet!

The one thing I would add to that is be careful though. With the live track active going off the racing line in the wet can get a bit more slippery. You don't want to go aquaplaning into the passing cars.

What exactly rain mode will be used?

Fog with rain.

Spot on!

In testing I found that the rain doesn't seem to affect the Lotus 25 much - maybe because it doesn't have much power, torque or weight. I tried all the rain settings and the one with fog seemed to suit Historic Spa best as it improves the graphics by reducing LOD. I didn't notice any aquaplaning during testing.

If tire pressures are right and there is no aquaplanning, you should have more grip outside the race line when raining.

Right, good to know. 👍
Especially since my racing line isn't necessarily the racing line.

Ooh look at you getting all technical. You'll be going on about anti-aliasing, bump mapping and the use of pixel shaders next. :P

Was quite an intense race, rain the fog makes the track eerie. Sick me where having a really good battle, till made some mistakes, Joe Beach got by. The man on the pit wall was counting down, 4 mins to go. It really is a challenging track in any condition, have too be so focused.

Spa Historic Round 3 of 7

16 started and 16 finished the race - remarkable! Unusually for a Monday we were oversubscribed with a new member - welcome Beach Boy66- a returnee - welcome back Jefaais and two Reserves - Alex and Flaco. I issued the correct number of invites, but unfortunately @MrTree was unable to enter the room as one person was racing without an invite. I have therefore issued Mr Tree with 8.5 points on the table and this apology on behalf of our group.

It is good that the series is proving popular - the Lotus 25 is a very enjoyable car to drive, but I cannot understand how the podium men were able to achieve such incredible lap times! Well done to them! I found it very difficult to pass and unfortunately got caught up in a few incidents - I need to apologise to Beach Boy for clipping his car during qualifying.

The rain and spray made for an exciting race and the game is realistic enough to give me even more respect for the drivers who risked their lives for fame and glory in dangerous conditions. Next year we will be using the Lotus 25 again (with the top drivers in the Lotus 51) in a re-imagining of the Japanese F2 Championship. We will also use Historic Spa again with a Sports or GT car - at night the lights are on in the trackside houses which gives great atmosphere.

@Sick Cylinder no worries I had allready posted in our psn-conversation personal issues where going to stop me from racing.

I could have this happen quite often at the moment and if more consistent joiners want to join I'll give up my spot until we have enough racers for a second room or some get bored with the game ;)

Thanks for letting me know Mr Tree - hope you can race regularly soon - I will change you to Reserve status. In future let me know when you are free to race and I will send an invitation if there is a free spot. I will try and let you know in advance if I can

Sick, I am resigning from your leagues (both). For a reason lets just say I just was not fully ready for the league grind. Practice for this race really wore me out and I just could not get very far into the race. It was fun while it lasted...thanks for letting me back in.
Good luck to everyone...

Did you know these fun facts about 'Grand Prix' ?
1. All the cars used in filming were formula 2 cars, since no f1 cars were available as well as most actors driving had no experience, and f2 cars were easier to learn and cheaper to replace if they crashed!
2. The actor who played Scott Stoddard in movie was the only one who did not do his own driving...he was apparently just a terrible driver!
3. They did use the oval at Monza in film, but by the time they filmed the oval had been shut down for racing for safety reasons and was re-opened for the film only!
4. The footage shot in the Ferrari race car shop where James Garner is 'interviewing' with the fictitious Ferrari head man (forget his name) was actually the real Ferrari factory! They had never allowed anyone to ever film in there before...not ever. John Frankenheimer (movie director) personally got an appointment with Enzo Ferrari and convinced him it would be in Ferrari's best interest to allow filming. He did this by showing him raw racing footage they had shot so far...Enzo was so impressed he quickly reversed himself and gave the director full technical help, along with filming rights!
