Mon 20:00-21:30 UK time - PC2 - Hosted by @IfAndOr - Please refer to new threadPS4

Can I join your Monday night Lotus 25 league please?

Yes - Welcome @Oldbass47

You will need to send a Friend Request from your PS4 to Sick_Cylinder2 and read posts 1-7 at the start of this thread, then if you have any queries please feel free to raise them by posting on this thread.

@beachboy6658 - you can copy and paste John Wells brilliant photos into Publisher then save them as JPEG files then print them. Brilliant photos from Rouen @John Wells !

This Oldbass, do I send the friend request on the race night?

What happens @Oldbass47 is that Sick sends out invitations on each race night (to friends on his list) which you then accept to automatically join in. So as Tavilha says don't wait until Monday, get your friend request off as soon as you can. ;)

Oh hello and welcome to GTplanet and Sick's racing crew. 👍

Try not to multi post (more than one post without anyone replying) since it is frowned upon by the moderators. Instead to reply to more than one person at a time press the +Quote button on each post and then in the message window press the add quotes button. It'll add them in order and you can then type your reply/question as required.
(You can also highlight just a section of text and hit reply just to just respond to that point)
Today's lesson is now over. :P

@Oldbass47 - The friend request has been accepted. I have added you to the Sick's Race Room message string on the PS4 and asked the guys to friend you for practise purposes etc. so expect to be flooded with friend requests.

I normally get home from work too late on race nights to do pre-race practise so one of the guys will open a practise room at around 19:30 (normally John Wells or Simba Lora) and will send you an invitation. Obviously you don't need to attend this practise session, but some people find it useful.

I send out the race invitations at approximately 20:30. We have no practise and go straight into a 20 minute qualification session. It's a long enough qualification session to allow for comfort breaks and also to enable slower drivers to give way to faster drivers who are on a hot lap. You will need to find some clear space on track in which to set your time without impeding others - just as in real racing.

Make sure that you have the track map and the proximity arrows selected in the options. The track map will display your car as a blue arrow, competing cars as white dots and cars you are lapping as blue dots. Keep an eye out for red dots - these are the people on the lead lap who are lapping you. It is very important not to impede their progress or interfere with their battles for the lead. I give way to these drivers by keeping to one side and backing off the throttle slightly and try to adjust my pace so they pass on the straight.

Hopefully there will be someone of a similar standard who you can enjoy having a close race with. There is a wide ability range from people with real talent at the front to people like myself who are experienced, enthusiastic and doing our best, but normally circulating towards the back of the field.

I hope you enjoy the series and are tempted to join the Wednesday races - there is currently one space left for Wednesday's.

PS - If you add your PSN name to your GT Planet information page it is easier for people to send you friend requests who meet you via the website.

Message to all Drivers

I will be trying Perfomance Impacting Damage this week (the middle setting) in an effort to encourage cleaner driving and better starts. We will try this on Wednesday as well, where there is currently more of a problem because of the extreme performance of the Lotus 98T - if we don't get cleaner starts - especially on Wednesday's I will try a new start procedure.

Porsche Pack - Classic Content Review

Nice post Sick. I've not tried all of them yet but spent five minutes after last Wednesday's race testing the 917 at Silverstone Classic. Before I knew it, five minutes had become an hour. Can't wait until we race these!

There's a great post on the official PCARS forum written by the game's handling dev detailing the physics of the new Porsche pack (http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?61755-Physics-of-the-Porsche-Legends-DLC). One particular sentence during the discussion of the 2.8 RSR will be of great joy to you Sick, and no doubt many others including me...

"Multi-class at Le Mans with this will be great fun; 911 giving all it's got for 250km/h on the Mulsanne while the 917 and 512M blast by doing closer to 390km/h!"

I think that's accidental confirmation of the 512M  Escuderia Montjuich livery for me please!

See you at Zolder in a few hours...

Round 5 from Zolder

This round was a substitute for Zandvoort which sadly is not on the Project Cars 2 track list, but hopefully will make it into the game eventually as it is a superb track.

Qualification went well and I ended up about a second quicker than in practise. I was a bit worried about the start because damage was on, but managed to get ahead of IfAndOr. He is a good, sensible driver so I wasn't worried about him being close behind. I was taking a lot of kerb at the various chicanes in an effort to gain more speed, but eventually got a warning to slow down which allowed IfAndOr through. I followed If for a while and when Joedakiss made a mistake IfAndOr slipped through - I tried to follow him, but was too far back and sadly collided with Joe. On the way back to the pits for repairs I lost control of the car and smashed the car more thoroughly - the result was a very long pit stop during which I think I lost two laps. I had resolved to wait and let Joe pass if my stop was shorter, but it seemed to go on forever - the Lollipop man kept looking at his wrist as if his watch could be seen through his fire proof overalls! Eventually I got away and set off after Joe who now had a comfortable leap.

The track map and car indicators was now confusing because all the cars except Joe's and mine showed red like the leaders! We started unlapping ourselves and towards the end I was catching - Joe was getting tantalisingly close! I was then lapped for real and the extra pressure / loss of concentration caused me to have an off track excursion and lose contact with Joe.

Many apologies for the collision Joe - I committed to a pass that looked on, but with hindsight wasn't!

Welcome to new driver @Oldbass47 - I've credited you with disconnection points as your car didn't make it to the end - hope you enjoyed the race and will be back for more. You will find the points table on page 1 of the thread.

Below the finishing order - Tavilha, Napalm and Simba Lora were this weeks Clark, Stewart and Gurney - well done to them!

F1 Round 5 Zandvoort.jpg

The 1965 part of the table is largely green because in the 1960's most of the cars were made in Britain. We have the two red Ferrari's of Surtees and Bandini and the white Honda of the great American driver Richie Ginther. In 1965 Ginther took two 6th places and finished the season with a win in Mexico in the jewel like Honda RA272 V12. I've included a picture of the Tamiya model - the engine cover has been removed to show the transversely mounted V12 with two exhausts exiting from the top rear while the exhaust manifold from the front bank of cylinders passes underneath with two exhausts exiting below the gearbox. What a car this would be in the game!

what layout will be used next Monday? I think I read somewhere it will be "Combined"?

Yes - combined because unfortunately there is no pit lane on the original layout. It is likely to be 3 laps, but this will be confirmed.

All Drivers please note there is a DLC Survey / Poll in the online racing section to aid with planning of future series.

Yes Napalm its combined so I have to do some practice.

Good race last night Zolder, suits the car very well, though just need to kiss the curbs. Too much can send it over side of track. Unfortunately Sick, Joe had a crash had too pit, so I was in a good 7th position. When you both came out your dots were blue, but fairly quick in pulling away, not sure what happened in the pits.

We had a good battle with Lance towards the end, did you have to pit as well? He overtook me on nearly the last lap.

Sick who was the Honda driver killed at Rouen was on a doc F1 The Killer Years BBC I think.
Car was same material as Dan Gurneys car.

There might be an obvious answer but why are the exhaust pipes so long on these older F1 cars? Is it to poke any closely following drivers in the eye? It certainly seems to act like that in the game.

I like Zolder (better than Zandvoort actually). I went for the use of the clutch at the start and while it might have been a little slower it was less dramatic. I then had a good overall race managing to avoid any damage while picking up a few places here and there. The last few laps battling with @beachboy6658 were especially good. I'd managed to reel him in over a number of laps and then overtook him after he'd made a slight error. He then proceeded to pressurise me for the rest of the race until he snuck past me on the inside on the last hairpin.

@Sick Cylinder I know you've only just introduced it but could I suggest dropping the damage just for the next race. It's an awfully long way around to get back to the pits if needed.

John - that was Jo Schlesser in 1968. The original V12 Honda for the 3 litre formula was over weight so Honda experimented with a version with many magnesium parts including the bodywork. John Surtees was their star driver, but he refused to drive the magnesium car (he considered it dangerous as it hadn't received enough development). Sadly Schlesser crashed early in the race when the fuel tank was still almost full - in those days the tanks were large enough to complete the whole race without pit stops. The car burst into flames during the crash and burned vigorously - Schlesser was trapped in the inferno.

The cars used tuned length primary pipes feeding a tuned tailpipe, often in the form of a slightly tapered megaphone. The length of the exhaust system was selected to match the operating range of the engine which was low by modern standards. The Honda V12 revved to 12,000, with the Coventry Climax and BRM V8's running at about 10,000rpm. If the same engine was running at 20,000 rpm like an F1 unit from the most recent naturally aspirated era, the exhaust would be designed with half the length.

This is a very good idea!

There will be cosmetic damage only at the next round!

It never stops to amaze me the amount of knowledge you have.

It’s a real privilege to race with you guys.

This group is more than racing online. The effort, time and passion that @Sick Cylinder dedicates to both series is admirable. Thanks for all the good work.

If damage will be visual only we don't need pits, because this car can be drivable after big crash (bonnet and windscreen doesnt affect visibility). I think it would be better to do 4 laps on old track than 3 on combined.

Absolutely with you, but then we´ll have to do without qualifying as well ( could be two more laps to go ) with a random grid.

Just had a look (doubted myself) but yes there is no training and no qualifying possible on this track.
