Congratulations to the Champion Napalm_LT

With one round to go (and in the absence of @Tavilha ) @Napalm_LT secured the title with a dominant display, taking the win and fastest lap of the race. Problems with room settings resulted in a restart and race distance shortened from 5 to 4 laps. The updated points table is on page 1 post 1.

F1 Round 6 Nurburgring.jpg

Almost all racers lapped faster than the 8 minute 24.1 seconds which Jim Clark managed on lap ten, but in 1965 conditions were wet and overcast whereas we had ideal conditions.

Only eight drivers finished in 1965 and of those, Masten Gregory (8th) was a lap behind the leader. Masten - known as "The Kansas City Flash" was famous for jumping out of cars just before the moment of impact - he was occasionally spotted by other drivers standing up in the car preparing to leap! - the resulting injuries sometimes causing him to miss future races!
He scored 21 F1 world championship points as well as sports car wins in the Nurburgring 1000 KM and the 24 hours of Le Mans. He passed away in his sleep in 1985 aged just 53.

Next Round 7 of 7 Imola

It was green and it was... not too bad actually. I had quite a good race managing to keep it away from the green stuff throughout.

Me too, at least until @Harsk100 showed up  Shame, we were set up for an intense last-lap battle between the three of us until then. I would like to see a replay of the incidents if anyone has one – I know the Ring is difficult to overtake on but I'm fairly sure I didn't shut the door mid-corner. You saw it unfold If – what was your view on it?

Also, thanks to you guys that gave me tips on cleaning the pods, after a squirt of contact cleaner they're working perfectly again. I just about got it done in time to have a few laps practice in single player before the race. What I didn't realise was that the time progression settings were carried over from a 24-hour cycle Le Mans race I did a few days ago – there's nothing like a few night-time laps in a car with no headlights to help you remember the layout!! This was my first go around the Ring again since GT4, and what a great car to do it in – as others have said, please use this track/4-lap race format again @Sick Cylinder

Unfortunately, as I mentioned, I forgot to save the replay. :banghead:

From memory. Bear in mind it was on probably the second fastest part of the circuit so it everything was happening quite quickly! Our battle had been going on for awhile. In fact I'd been closely following Harsk for probably 2 laps before we caught you up and turned it into a 3 way fight. Which I think would have continued for another lap, so it was a shame.

No I didn't think you shut the door. Harsk was trying to pass where he could and I think just the bumpiness and narrowness caused a fairly light contact with the speed multiplying the effect. I think if we weren't in open wheelers you both would have got away with it. I'd actually been holding back slightly for awhile waiting to see what would unfold. I took advantage and aimed at a spot between you both and hoped for the best. Unusually it worked! Pity about the replay.

Good to hear your peddles are up and running again. Do peddles run?

Probably the main difference is if Jim had crashed while trying to achieve our lap times he'd have been dead. Whereas we just ricochet off the barriers and swear a bit. :)

And well done to @Napalm_LT on his win and championship victory. 👍

Fair enough then. I saw on the relative times that you two were having a good battle and were gaining roughly a second per sector on me. I knew you were going to catch me if you didn't end up pushing each other too hard in battle! Congrats on taking the place in the end, it clearly took a lot of patience on your part.

@John Wells is there any way to upload in a higher resolution, or does GTP limit file size uploads? You always take great pics that I'd love to use them as screensavers, but they're always too small...

Joe I copy them from my TV, they allays look sharper from the game. My computer isn't a HD so it never as good.

Sometimes the replay doesn't let me use any settings, so use the share button instead, which did here. How do upload in higher res?

You can save his pics as I did...click and hold down on pic till options come up, download is choice, then just use it as wallpaper from there.

Patience that Harsk doesn't, at times, have. ;)
(Although to be fair he's a lot better than he once was)

GTP used to allow very large images but because page loading was grinding to a halt automatic image scaling was introduced.
You could try posting them as full size images instead of using the thumbnail option @John Wells. Although they will still be scaled they will look larger than the ones you upload presently. The downside is that the pages will take slightly longer to load but it won't be too bad I expect once it's been cached.

They'd then look something like this on the page.
Project CARS 2_20180309111849.jpg

If you created your own gallery you could make albums and be able to display the full sized images as well. It sounds more complicated than it actually is. :)
I've just created a PC2 album and put the image below in it.
View media item 39292Click on the image first. You can click on the magnifier button for full screen or click on the down arrow to download.

You can also host the full size images on a photo sharing site but that is getting a little more technical. But not too bad.

Oh, and although your computer hasn't got a HD screen it'll still store and upload the higher resolution images. 👍

1966 Career Track List 2018 Mon.jpg

Hi John - the new poster and track list will be uploaded onto post 1 on page 1 of the thread along with this groovy video about round 1. I love the narration introduction and outro at the end - one of the most over the top I have ever heard. There is a nice onboard lap with commentary by "The Kansas City Flash" Masten Gregory driving a Mercedes 300 SL. Great music and lots of completely unnecessary shots of pretty girls!

I thought I was the Kansas City Flash!!! :sly::rolleyes:

I think the Lotus 40 was quite bouncing in the first game, haven't driven it yet.

It has improved a lot in PC2 with the new physics and tyre model - also the Lotus 49 (both models) is much better, especially the wingless version which is why I scheduled them for new series. The Lotus 25 became very good in the new game also.

A real shame there are not some extra cars in the class with the Lotus 40 - it should be separated from the Ford MK4 and Ferrari 330 P4 as it never raced with them. If I was SMS I would keep the new "Can Am" Class for the Porsche 917/10 and hopefully in the future the McLaren M8F (or similar), but I would create "Can Am H" (Historic) - for the Lotus 40 and McLaren M1A to be added.

Just look at this fabulous bit of beautiful colour film showing incredible cars at the superb and sadly lost Bridgehampton circuit - one of the tracks I would most like to have added to the game, alongside Riverside Raceway.

I saw the beautiful pale blue car - "The Zerex Special" at Brands Hatch last year! I'll try and find the pictures and post them in the thread.

Important Notice for all Drivers - Time Change - The UK has changed from GMT to BST !!!

Before the race please check your local time against BST (British Summer Time) as the UK has just changed to summer time.

Below - I found this fantastically over the top clip of America's first Formula One car being tested at Riverside International Raceway - the full film is available on YouTube titled "Sound of Speed" and its worth watching for the title sequence alone!

The car is the "Scarab" which was financed by the very wealthy Lance Reventlow. It had some advanced features including four wheel independent suspension and a four cylinder motor with desmodromic (positive closure) valve gear. Sadly it was not a success in period because front engine cars were on the way out - superseded by the new generation of rear engine F1 cars which could be made smaller, lighter and with a lower frontal area - the Scarabs are very successful in Historic Racing today where they compete in the front engine class.

Lance Reventlow - full name Lawrence "Lance" Graf von Haugwitz-Hardenberg-Reventlow really gives the car some beans demonstrating his incredible car control. Sadly Reventlow lost his life at the age of 36 in a plane crash in 1972.

Lance was also responsible for the very fast and beautiful Scarab sports cars, 3 of which were built in 1958 and were very successful in the USA. It used all American parts including a Chevrolet engine and Chevy drum brakes.

Congratulations to Champion Napalm !!!

The Lotus 25 proved very popular and enjoyable to race so we will be revisiting this car in 2019. To close this championship - if you have time - enjoy this fabulous documentary about the 1961 F1 Champion Phil Hill.
