My two cents – rather than a 6 lap race, how about two three-lap races instead?

I really liked the two-heat format in the Christmas fun race. Gives you another chance to make amends if you mess up early on in the first race, plus it would keep the racing closer – I imagine most of us would have a bit of a lonely race over 6 laps of the Nordschleife...

Absolutely with you, but then we´ll have to do without qualifying as well ( could be two more laps to go ) with a random grid.

Just had a look (doubted myself) but yes there is no training and no qualifying possible on this track.
I agree to do this race on Nordschleif only, but we will not be able to do group practice an hour before as we usually do....as you said there is no practice option available..unless Simba sets it up as a race instead.
Does anyone know if you can practice this track offline under testing venue??

Ooh it's busy today!
Nordschleife without pits sounds OK. You can't get a drive though penalty then. ;)

how about two three-lap races instead?
Yeah I'd go along with this. I agree with all your points. It can get a bit lonesome around the Nord without a car in sight.

If there's no qualy then reverse grid is OK too, or indeed random. Don't get intimidated, everyone just needs to stick to their lines, or defend even. It'll give the faster guys a bit of a challenge getting through the pack. And we get to see them for a change. Other than being lapped. :)

I've not actually tried the Nordschleife in PCars! I must go and correct that. I think you can practice sections too, which is good.

It never stops to amaze me the amount of knowledge you have.
Same here, and I've "virtually" known Sick for a few years now, since GT5 in fact. He's a walking motoring encyclopaedia. Well on the older stuff anyway, ask him details on the latest Paganini Huayra and he might struggle.

Nordschleife (Not Combined Circuit) - We will do a 1 lap race followed by a short comfort break (approximately 3 minutes) followed by a 4 lap race. I will check the grid options at the weekend - if possible the grid will be random order.

Damage will be cosmetic only, tyre and fuel wear off as normal.

Results from both races will be combined with the longer race having twice the weight. The same total points as normal will be awarded.

Important Information for Monday's Race

After doing more testing / practise / research, I have decided to just hold one race on Monday - it will be 5 laps with normal points, however there will be additional points available for fastest lap (5 points), 2nd fastest lap (4 points) etc, down to 1 additional point for 5th fastest lap.

5 laps is one third of the distance of the actual Grand Prix held in 1965. There will be no qualifying and damage will be fully off (i.e. no cosmetic damage). It is very difficult to pass at this track - you may need to be patient and wait for the person in front to make a mistake or wait for one of the long straights.

I found this excellent onboard footage recorded before the GP in 1967 - we can see from the front suspension design that the camera car is a Formula Vee - this is chasing a Formula 2 Lola chassis fitted with a 2 litre BMW engine driven by Hubert Hahne. They are obviously not going at full racing speed and when he reaches the main straight near the end of the lap Hubert blasts off into the distance like a rocket - the much slower camera car catches him up for the chicane. Perhaps this was filmed in more than one take / lap - I doubt that the camera car could have carried enough 16mm film for a whole lap.

It is interesting to see how the circuit has changed over the years - many sections had no barriers back then - an off could result in contact with one of the many tall trees which lined the track.

Hubert Hahne raced this car in the 1967 and 1968 German F1 GP's retiring in 1967 with transmission failure, but achieving 10th place in 1968 - quite impressive for a 2 litre car in a 3 litre race.

Below - extended highlights of the 1965 GP. This clip includes subtitles which helpfully name the drivers and cars.

Did three 2 laps online in a row and experienced bug again. Car was perfect in first race, but when qually of second race started car was awful - there were no grip, I needed turn wheel a lot even a turn is very small. In the third race car was fine again.
So, three race on a row with same settings (I was host) and cars feels absolutely different. It is so annoying.
I guess someone on this thread was right - game loading different settings/conditions for players in the same loby. Hope we won't have this tomorrow, because there won't be qually and we can't rejoin

Hi guys!
Tomorrow is Father's in Portugal (I think it's on a different date in other countries) and I just arranjed dinner with mine. I'm really sad I won't take part in tomorrow's race, as it will be epic.

Well worth a watch if you’re bored on a Sunday...

No chance pf being bored today! Went to Estoril for a track day in my faithful Punto. Also embarrassed a Ferrari 458 with a Caterham Seven (no video of that but I swear it's true :sly:)

Due to the problems I've been having with my pedals (I must have a fault because no amount of calibration will fix the input spiking), I will be retiring from the remainder of the Monday and Wednesday races after tonight's race at the Ring so I can get it sorted. Thrustmaster's customer service seems useless so far and I don't imagine replacing my faulty (4-month-old!) wheel/pedal set is going to be as straightforward as it should be and as proven by last Wednesday's race, carrying on with faulty equipment only leads to frustration on my part, or worse, danger to others (sorry again @lancerevoo for the race-killing shunt...)

I hope to return in time for the Monday Can-Am season (not sure how likely that is) but I'll definitely be sitting out Wednesdays from now until after the GTE championship – I have a lot of family/work/wedding stuff on at the moment and GT3/Es aren't my thing, but I'm sure you'll have no problem filling my spot for that!

Will still stay active on here in the mean time, and looking forward to our 'ring showdown tonight before my hiatus!

Have you cleaned the pedals Joe? Dirt is the most common reason for spiking pedals - if you have domestic pets (cats or dogs) they may need doing quarterly with electrical cleaner - if not, then once or twice a year may be required. There should be videos on youtube on how to clean each brand of pedals.

No pets so I doubt there could be enough of a buildup since December. But I will look for these vids and try before tonight's race anyway... Thanks

Joe you just have too be patient with Thurstmaster, I had too get a new wheel clamp for mine. It takes a few days to answer, because they are busy. I was going to have to pay for the clamp, then found my receipt so was free.

Once they start asking questions should be fairly straight forward.:D

You'd be surprised Joe. I'm always having to clean my peddles pots, they do like to attract the dust. I do have a cat but she rarely ventures near the peddles.
A can of compressed air cleaner work's wonders followed by a light squirt of contact cleaner. Or WD40 if you're desperate.

Although saying that, my brake peddle currently seems to flicker on with just the slightest touch. If you see my lights come on I'm not brake checking anyone it just a draft blowing over the peddles. They've been in use for a good few years now so I'll have to strip the pot down sometime or replace it with my spare peddles.

I'm just a bit worried about doing it myself in case I void the warranty... do you other T300 guys have to do it so often?

It seemed to coincide with PC2 4.0 'fixing' the wheel calibration settings, but I'm guessing that was a red herring because no-one else seems to have been affected by it – at least not to the point that a recal hasn't fixed it

Joe, found this on Inside Sim..maybe will help you??

Just a blow out with the compressed air certainly shouldn't void your warranty. I get my tins from Staples, it's used to clean out computer stuff. Quite expensive just for air though!
The cleaner/WD40 may I suppose go against the warranty if you have to return them. Although it might actually fix the problem. Catch 22.
(Contact cleaner tends to evaporate so wouldn't leave much trace. Not so much the WD)

Oh I should have said I've got a G29 although the peddles are from my G27 and have been removed from their plastic casing and fitted onto a raised stand. This doesn't help with the dust of course. The principle is the same in that it attracts "dirt" from your shoes/slippers/socks etcetera.

I must say that even though they are perhaps less realistic over the years my Logitech wheels have been completely reliable - other than my dirty pots.

I have some contact cleaner from when I tried (and failed) to fix something on my real-life car. I'm thinking it might be worth just spraying some onto the pots without actually opening them up myself? Hopefully that might fix it without me ham-fistedly voiding the warranty by taking them apart...
