Did a little bit of a run in the G40 this morning and noticed a couple of things.

First off, I didn't know that they used all-weather tyres...I think Paul said we weren't running with wet races, but is there any chance that could change? Purely because tyre changes won't be necessary and we've got quite a few British circuits coming up. Seems a disservice to me to not include rain when we have so much! The handling was perfectly manageable in the wet, and I've got an idea for some interesting rain settings. I'll fine tune it for our 30 minute races and let you know if you want.

It would also give an opportunity to get those bloody huge windscreen wipers out of the way for half the time as well. I had a look online and they are nowhere near as large on the actual car... I've got no idea why they made them so big. It's quite a problem as I like to scale my car in game to actual size and end up peering through the bars of the wiper as a result. Think I may have to forego accuracy for a bit extra height!

this nostalgic 1962 London Motor Show film
"The last one with Britain outside the common market" made me smile. Seems it might not have been the last after all! Mind you we did have our own car industry then to sell overseas.

I'm looking forward to the G40s. I'm trying to loose a bit of weight so I can fit into the smaller cockpit. :)

Been using the G40, in career, it works okay in the wet, though have too be careful. The rain was been quite bad, much more than Sicks Races, very bad at Knockhill and Silverstone. Had been aquaplaning at sometimes, but its okay now, got use to it.:)

Note - for this championship I have decided to keep the team idea going, but you will be in teams of two. There will be an individual championship and a team championship. The table below shows your car numbers - the team names are the ones used by the game.

There will be at least two wet rounds out of eight (possibly three). Next round is Donington Park GP

Hi guys,

Had a bit of time late last night so made a video about the weather settings I mentioned.

The settings were:

4 slots: Light Cloud, Heavy Cloud, Light Rain, Light Cloud
Weather progression: 40x
Season: Spring

I actually worked out how to record my voice live whilst racing, so I've done that. Apologies for the poor quality audio, it was done using my headset and headset mic so doesn't sound pro at all but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.

I might run another test today with 30x to see the difference.

I mentioned a few links and videos so here they are:

First up is that Yorkie video. Highly highly recommend his channel for extremely informative Project Cars content. He does a series that looks at each aspect of the game in extreme detail. This video is a few years old but is from when he got a chance to drive a G40.

He actually mentions the shifting style in the video, and it shows I was doing it wrong! So with the Ginetta it's a throttle lift upshift without clutch and a dab of clutch on the downshift. No need to heel and toe as Yorkie says it has an auto blip.

The FOV calculator I mentioned is this one, you'll see what I mean about using it to position your seat with the eyesight lines in the screenshot below of my setup.

If there's anything else I mentioned and forgot to include in this post then please let me know.

Ran another two tests today, one at 20x weather speed and the other at 15x.

The 20x resulted in three rain showers, one at 4:30 that lasted 4:30, the second at 17:00 that lasted 4:30 again, and the third at 29:30 that lasted until the end of the race.

Personally, it felt a lot more natural than the 40x in the video above, and the rain seemed to build up a more gradually than in the 40x race. I'm wondering if, instead of the rain falling at a set intensity and the build up on track a result of the duration, the track conditions are programmed to reach a certain state and the rain will fall at enough of an intensity to allow that to happen in the time the weather multiplier allows.

The 15x setting gave two rain showers, one at 7:30 that lasted 4:00, and one at 22:15 that lasted 6:00.

Personally I prefer the 15x setting after the three tests, it felt even more natural than the 20x and didn't fill up too much of the race with wet driving, but gave just enough to add atmosphere and impact the driving slightly.

It should also be noted that apart from the heaviest of rain fall (the game actually has clouds that move around overhead that create the rain...where they overlap the rain is heavier) the racing line was dry once the whole field had passed through, meaning the cars towards the back will have a more agreeable track than those upfront. It could be an interesting balancer, not enough for someone coming 16th to suddenly come through the field, but enough to keep the field closer together.

So yeah, thus concludes my experiments. I recommend the 15x setting, with the light rain section in position 3 of the 4 weather slots, as an alternative to starting in the wet and having the track dry throughout the race. Unfortunately I didn't record the two races today, my driving was shocking (ironic seeing as last night I was still high from the General Anaesthetic I'd had earlier on for an operation) but it really did give an even better racing environment than the 40x.

P.S. I'd also like to add that when trying the correct shifting methods I found that it was still better to blip the throttle on downshifts manually than rely on the auto blip. I think it is a feature, but just kicks in a bit delayed so affects the stability of the car briefly. Heel and toeing stops this entirely.

Ahh, I'd forgotten about Croft even existing. Don't watch much touring cars now and haven't seen it in a racing game I've owned since Toca 2. Is it still on the BTCC calender?

Yes still on the BTCC, calender, went last year, when it was on Rj. Use to go watch, British Superbikes, which was really really great, as well. They were taken, too court, because someone didn't like the noise. They now have noise, control, can only run so many meetings, you would see these people someone near Brands Hatch complain.:grumpy:

Its my local track even though, its 2 hours away, local kart track, local Speedway isn't running this year, to expensive.

I had that game as well, quite hard when you got sacked by the team, TOCA Race Driver Grid was good to.

Congratulations to Champions @joedakiss and @lancerevoo
**I forgot to say before - Well done to @joedakiss on his series victory.**
Well done on the Championship win @joedakiss . You seemed to properly fly under the radar to take the win with consistent mid to high scoring results. Well done mate.

Thanks guys, I knew the car choices would give me a slight advantage over the course of the championship so my main focus was trying to place consistently. I had a bit of a scare in the final race at old Spa when I had a random button press on my T300 (my first in about a year!), which paused the game while I was in the tricky downhill section before the long straight. I managed to get back past @lancerevoo 's Merc, and luckily @Sick Cylinder followed me through too as I needed to finish two places higher than Lancer to pip him. Hats off to Lancer for being such a formidable driver in both the Ferrari and the Merc – you're firmly in the 'alien' category with DD and Tav now – and also for being a sport when I was passing him, leaving *just* enough room for the pass!

@Sick Cylinder I'm not going to be able to make it tonight as I'm on a photoshoot at Goodwood first thing and have a 4-hour drive down to a nearby hotel this evening. I'm wondering, since it's a team-based mini-series, if it might make sense if I dropped back to reserve for the Ginetta series to give someone else a proper go if they can make all three races?

P.S. @rj5992 I watched your video, very enjoyable and good man for putting the time in to test – I remember how much fun the G40Js are in the wet from the career mode!

There are 8 rounds in this championship Joe, so there's still plenty of time to race. Perhaps Sick might substitute a reserve drivers' points for you tonight like he did a few times in the last championship.

Haha thanks a lot. It turns out Paul has already done a load of testing himself, but he's been keeping his findings close to his and Sick's chests so they can make it interesting for us in future races. I'm definitely looking forward to what weather we might experience.

Crofts 20 mins from me, (10 mins when its quite :)), the nostalgia event they run in August is a good day john and think its only £10 in been a few times, use to go to the btcc but not had time the last couple of years.

@joedakiss After a fair few hard tussles on the track I managed to cross the line in 5th for Team PAIS (from starting 8th) in your absence tonight. An unfortunate two second penalty however meant we dropped down to 6th in the final standings out of 15 starters.

Our sponsors weren't too disappointed and the boss did promise to hire more mechanics for the next round in order to hopefully squeeze out some more performance out of the car. Here's hoping you'll be able to swiftly return to the team as your speed and expertise is sorely needed. // Sincerely, Team PAIS teammate #58.

After a fair few hard tussles on the track
We were having a good old tussle for quite a few laps. :) It's a great little car for tussling in.

I tussled with you until I slightly missed my breaking point and went off track loosing time and you pulled away. I came back on track and it gave me a slow down penalty for loosing time. I then tried to get rid of the penalty but in doing so I messed up the next corner and it gave me the penalty. You pulled away further. Then while ranting at the game I went off track loosing more time and guess what, I got another penalty. You were disappearing into the distance. At this point if I was using a controller I'd have thrown it on the floor. :P
My concentration had gone by then so I mainly ambled around after that.

It was great fun up until then though. Many changes of position going on with very little contact. Well done RJ, good pace throughout.

I said it last night on the chat, but in case it got missed, is there any chance that we can remove penalties @Sick Cylinder ?

I was lucky and didn't have any cross country excursions so remained penalty free, but I've had ******** penalties plenty of times in the past and know how frustrating it can be. I think the worst one was the instant drive through I got at classic spa because my car started rolling down the hill at the start before the screen had faded in from black, there was literally nothing I could do to prevent it, the game hadn't even given me control of the car yet

It sounded like there was a great 6 car battle for much of the race that got broken up because of slow down penalties. I know @JockeP22 , @IfAndOr , @lancerevoo , @RagingBullLC and possibly @AndreasR all had to serve them when they had already lost time due to going off track. There were probably more as well.

Obviously it's your call, I just wanted to bring it up as it looks like we have the makings of a very tight championship here and it would be a shame if it got spoilt by broken game mechanics.

Also, what was everyone's opinion of the start? I didn't go over 70 kmph and started racing on the exit of turn one. Did that give everyone enough time to form up or was it too slow?

IMHO - penalties should be on :)
Rules are for all. I had plenty of penalties within practice and qually so I tried to be slower but safe in the chicane while racing. Others can do the same, or be faster but ready for penalty :)

According start - Lanc was very inpatient this time :)

Now a Stratos would be good in PCars. With the physics I'd imagine it would be a bit twitchy though!

Also, what was everyone's opinion of the start?
Seemed "normal" to me. I don't think there were any incidents? The pack still gets bunched up at the corner but that's the way it is unless you "start" on a straight section.

The junior would actually be a excellent choice to try out our standing starts again. It's not too fast and easy to control.

Penalties? Although the track limits do seem to be inconsistent and harsh at times I generally get along with them. It was just that yesterday they annoyed me just when I had a big smile on my face from the close racing. Being told to slow down is never safe or realistic.
In the junior every second counts - and I certainly didn't want to get a drive through through. :)

Thinking about it perhaps it just needs the drive through penalty switched off. Drivers would just collect time without worrying about the possibility a DT. They'd just get penalised in the final results. (I think that would be how it works?)

It's the fact that it's unrealistic that annoys me when it happens. I don't think I've ever got a penalty because I've gained an advantage on track. It's normally because I've made a mistake, gone off track, lost time through regaining control of the car/rejoining... And then the penalty flashes up as a further kick in the goolies. Other times it's through light contact with other cars. That just doesn't happen in real motor racing. Very rarely do track limits come into account, although one such occasion that springs to mind is Verstappen's last lap pass on Raikkonen at COTA a few years ago.

I've given up on slowdown penalties, I just keep racing and let the time get tacked on at the end. You appear to lose less time that way, plus you aren't in the way of other cars. Only issue then is you're risking a drive through penalty, so I agree with you on that front.

I'm genuinely surprised people are fans of the penalty system, but, to each their own.

One thing is definite though, I don't know if it got lost in translation, but whatever the rules are they will always apply to all drivers, there's no way around that!

I'm genuinely surprised people are fans of the penalty system,
Oh I can't say I'm a fan, for enjoyment I switch most of them off when racing the AI. But I can see how Sick likes the game to manage things such as corner cutting. It's just the systems over zealous nature that at times annoys. Donnington seemed to be particularly draconian. Especially with corner... extending. Is that the term? :)

Be good have back racing Hass:D The track limits are, okay, its just, when you watch, bike racing, going over, any green, that's the limit. In qualifying, can get the lap deducted, from the times, or in race have too make sure they slow down a bit, when going over. In Ride 3 track limits are like PC2, so if you go over you will, get penalty.

I got slow down penalty when was chasing Sick down Craner Curves, so it was quite annoying. So just keep limits on I think.:)
