Come on @Sick Cylinder don't keep us in suspense!
I've just gone and read the first page...
2019 C Late Summer Schedule.jpg
2019 D Autumn Schedule.jpg
Dates to be confirmed and updated.

I hadn't spotted these before!

I went to the first post to read more carefully how Sick set up these races and I'm really impressed. It's evidence of a lot of thought and a lot of work

In the description though, he mentions, in parentheses, to read the attached guidance and I couldn't find that.

I was really interested in how you guys did a race where you actually switched cars

We sometimes switch cars mid season/championship/series - at the colour change point on the schedule. But not mid-race if that's what you were thinking. We're already confused enough without that happening! :)

Yes, indeed, If, that is what I was thinking. Thanks for clarifying.

Well, that's what I get for watching e-prix racing. A couple of weeks ago they had the race in New York and they were explaining how each driver has two cars. They only pit to jump out of one car and in to the other car. They do it because a battery won't last the entire race.

Can they not design something that charges the battery, like alternator. Would probably better, instead swapping cars through the race.

Next season they're only going to use one car because someone developed a battery that lasts the entire race. All cars will use the same tech

;)

I know the feeling. Mine only lasts about 20 minutes, I usually go downhill from there. :P
Lol, Paul. That was clever!

That's better, their doing something similar in MotoGp, with electric bikes. All the same, so no one has, an advantage and to keep the cost down.

@Sick Cylinder and all. I have friend from over on a train sim forum* that would like to join in at some point - if there's a space free. Probably Mondays at the moment

His name is @WiSchmo. He's new to GTP, he's new to online racing and he's new to the T300 wheel he's just bought. So be gentle with him. :)
He'd like to join the lobby and watch us all crashing racing just to see what it's like. Which is ok but he may be tempted to join in if he likes the look of it.

He's also got a great avatar. :P

John could you "friend" WiSchmo10 on PSN so he can be invited to your practice sessions.

* Yes I like trains. Moving on. ;)

How's that going John? I know they had a fire in the paddock and lost a lot of bikes. Have they recovered from that?

Think they got sorted now Paul, but can't watch, because haven't BT sport. There not the highlight program, which is shame.

Yes send friend request, Paul, don't what I've here.

Hi guys,

thanks for the intro, @IfAndOr :D

As mentioned, I finally decided to buy a decent wheel, because I was getting majorly frustrated with the controller. I used to have a wheel as a kid and did some racing, but this is years back (I won't tell you how many, so I don't feel old ;)). I have been busy racing F1 2019 and Dirt Rally 2.0 for the time being, but I haven't done any online racing in PC2, yet. So you can just call me Rookie, or Willi, which is my real name

Paul referred me to this, and Wednesdays, race series, and I really like how it's set up! So I would like to join you all on track eventually, but I'll need some time to come to grips with the wheel+PC2+online combination. This is why I would be great if I could join the practice session for Monday's race, and slowly feel my way into it.

Really looking forward to some great racing and meeting you guys on track!

@Sick Cylinder I have sent you a friend request on PSN

Good to "see" you over here.

@Sick Cylinder I have sent you a friend request on PSN
You might have this already but on PSN make that Sick_Cylinder2
The original still exists but he can't access it due to a forgotten password!

And it's best to send johnwells69 one as well for the practice sessions. 👍

I used to have a wheel as a kid
They hadn't invented the wheel when I was a kid. :dopey:

Mon GT3 Round 0.jpg

Above - new GT3 series car allocation

Please note the following changes:

1. There will be no car changes - i.e. we stick with the same car for all 6 rounds (people will get a chance to drive different GT3 cars next year).
2. The membership list has been amended to add @ILIV (tympache) and @WiSchmo
3. Based on lowest attendance (1 round) I have dropped Rhino to the Reserves - note Rhino normally there will be at least one person absent each week so you should get plenty of races.

In common with recent series there will be one compulsory pit stop with a pit window between 10 and 20 minutes of race duration. This seems to work well - if you find yourself stuck behind someone, try pitting before them to get the undercut!

Looking forward to seeing you all on track in the new series - especially the new guys! I have added them to the PSN group for chat. Please add them to your friends list for practise etc.

New guys - our starting procedure is rather unusual - we set off very slowly, with no overtaking until after completion of the first corner. This helps to prevent first lap tangles. Good luck all!

Inspiration video - well worth a watch !!!

Note - slight amendments to car allocation table.

I don't think I've tried the NSX out. Hope it's good!

Could I suggest maybe a winter race for Dubai Sick. It might be cooler so help with the tyre wear. (assuming their winter is our winter)

@ILIV and @WiSchmo
We don't tend to use mics (iliv will like that ;)) unless we have to since it's distracting while on track.

And note Sick's mention of the start procedure above. Start off in single file in your grid position at a pace controlled by the pole sitter - around 60mph/100kph - until the first corner complex is passed. The pole sitter should then accelerate and the rest follow.

I thought I'd write a quick introduction to PC2 online for anyone new. It might help with any queries.

The races and practice* are private friends only, so you'll get an invite which if you accept will take you to the lobby screen. Here you select your correct car and wait for the host to start the game - if you are late you can join at any time until the race actually starts, during qualification for instance. John's session is usually just practice so practice away, you'll get a later invite from Sick at about 20.30(uk). The races have a 20 minute qualifying session which when it's finished** will return automatically to the race ready screen. There's then a 2 minute window before the race itself begins. You DO need to press the ready button before the counter reaches zero or it will assume you're not ready and leave you unable to race - this has caught a few people out, including Sick!
The race will begin. Follow the adapted start procedure and then hopefully enjoy the event. Remember to pit once between the 10 to 20 minute window - you can of coarse pit anytime if you need to repair damage.

Please refrain from typing on the PSN message during the race since it's distracting for those that have notifications on.

* When John remembers to select the option ;)
** DON'T press the return to race central button otherwise you'll drop out of the lobby!

If I've left anything out somebody might fill in the missing bit(s).
Any further questions just ask.

Thank you for the info, @Sick Cylinder

The Bentley, interesting. Haven't driven it much, because I think it's not the prettiest car of the bunch. But it's supposed to be the inside that counts, right? :P
I've never had an affinity for the Bentley. It was probably a wrong impression, but I was found it was too big and clunky. And, and numerous threads I had never seen it mentioned as one of the favorite GT3 cars

However, I'm addicted to watching Project Cars 2 racing videos on YouTube and I've seen a lot of videos where the Bentley OWNS.

Sick, under what circumstances can I race with you guys. My schedule has become a little bit more flexible and I think I can make it in more. Also, I love the Renault car and it looks like that's what you have reserves driving

Isn't Accura American? :mischievous:

Yes - but for the purposes of our series think of it as Japanese - after all it's owned by Honda and most of the cars are just badge engineered Honda's - akin to (from your era) Singer's, Sunbeam's, Hillman's and Humber's!

Could I suggest maybe a winter race for Dubai Sick. It might be cooler so help with the tyre wear. (assuming their winter is our winter)

Definitely!

That's good - as per the comment from @IfAndOr - if I see you online and numbers are low I will send you an invite. Also, don't be shy about sending a message just after qualifying has started, because sometimes I don't know the full attendance straight away.

Yes - definitely not the prettiest of cars, but it has a great sound in game!

Recently I saw the works supported "Time Attack" Bentley at Brands Hatch, which was very interesting - it had more extreme aero and a lot more power than a GT3 - unfortunately I can't find those pictures at the moment so here are a couple of shots of a British GT Championship version captured in the scrutineering bay.

Bentley gt3 front 2.jpg
Bentley gt3 rear.jpg

I will try and post pictures of the other cars as the series progresses - I attend a lot of test sessions at Brands (they are free!) and most of the teams are happy to answer questions and let me take a few snaps.

I have now noticed though that the GT3s run on race hard tyres which struggle to get and keep some heat in them. At Brno they worked best with a summer setting, they were a bit slippy otherwise. So maybe summer everywhere except at Dubai would be best for overall grip.

Thanks for heads up @IfAndOr

Would you mind checking before that round and advising - thanks!

@slthree - car allocation tables have been amended for Monday and Wednesday showing you as a Reserve Driver. Due to absences, it is likely that you will be able to get a race (or spectate) most times that you wish.

Slide 10 Minis.jpg

I haven't been to any car shows for a while, but today I went to one of the best - 250 carefully curated classics on an English village green! In this thread and the Wednesday one I am posting a few of the best. For the new guys @ILIV and @WiSchmo we sometimes post up pictures of car shows and race meetings visited.

Slide 1 Humber and Hillman California.jpg

1950's saloons - in red a large Humber and in yellow with a black roof - the much smaller Hillman Californian - presumably the black roof made it look like you had a convertible!

Slide 2 Austin TR3 and Lotus 6.jpg

Above 1950's English sports cars - in yellow and white the Austin Metropolitan looks more like a bath toy - it was a poor attempt to obtain export dollars. In green the Lotus Mark 6 - with a twin carb 1,172cc side valve engine tuned up to 40bhp, it had startling performance in its day. Front Ford axle was sawn in half and hinged producing a highly compromised suspension design, with extreme changes of camber - improved by Colin Chapman in later designs.

In red - Triumph TR3 features handy elbow cutouts in the doors - cabin is narrow so driver and passenger normally have one elbow outside the car!

Slide 3 MG Jaguar Volvo and Reliant.jpg

sporting cars for the wealthy man - green MG, white Volvo P1800S, red Jaguar 3.8 litre Mark 2, white Reliant Scimitar.

Slide 4 WRVS Van.jpg

Above if you were an old person in 1950's or 1960's Britain, this would be a welcome sight - matronly ladies from the WRVS (Womens Royal Voluntary Service) delivered meals to old folk, up and down the country in Morris Minor vans like this one.

Slide 5 Standard Vanguard.jpg

If you were a well off and sporting driver you might drive a Standard Vanguard 6 like this beautiful example!

So, I've been practicing at Brno in the Nissan GTR (GT3) and I found it pretty challenging to keep this car straight.

I use authentic settings for assists and basically everything I can. Is SC/TC turned off on this car completely in real life?

I found it pretty challenging to keep this car straight.
Yes I believe the GT3s do have ABS and TC in real life. Hopefully we'll be able to use them in the race.

The problem you may be having is getting heat into the race hard tyres. Try setting the date to August to get a better track temperature. And, if you haven't already, try the stable setting it may improve things.

Edit: I should have added that I've sent Sick a note about these issues.
