If left unmapped does it come on automatically?
It does. I find it best, it saves any errors. But it's best not to rely on it to slow you immediately to pit speed, brake early.

I'm guessing you'll be giving us some rain as well Paul?
Maybe. It has been mentioned. ;)

I haven't fully tried out the wear yet but I imagine the FWD will give their tyres a hammering. So a tyre change will be up to the driver. Although a spot of rain might make a change necessary!

The series Sick is replicating never had compulsory pitstops so that's what he's gone for.

@Sick Cylinder I don't see myself in the table. I guess you did a mistake and MON races table has WED races drivers list?

Thank you for spotting the error Napalm - sheet has now been corrected!

Other drivers please note changes from previous table, especially @Don Mejillone and @Tympache

Be careful everyone, the leaders will, probably pass us a few times, tonight.

Yes I'm hoping the short tracks will add some extra excitement. Of course give way if you can but otherwise you "go for it" John and everyone, if you're scrapping with someone else let those leaders find their own way past. As corporal Jones often shouts out "Don't Panic". :P

It's the same for those front runners, be aware of the slower drivers racing and don't push. I haven't got a YouTube link for that. :)

Sorry guys can't make it again tonight. Gutted!!!
That's a shame. More food? ;)

Yeah, basically this. If you hold your lines whilst just being aware that somebody is there then that is all you need to do to let someone through. There's no right or wrong side of the track to be on when someone passes you, but stick to the line you pick and let the faster guy either come underneath or over the top. There's no need to brake either, a few times I've been slip streaming a back marker only for then to brake, presumably because they think I'm being impatient or they're holding me up. You're not, I'm just using every advantage I can to get past cleanly.

I've had a warm up for tonight and can say it took a few laps to adjust to the new car , the tyre wear over 30 mins was ok altho at brands front left took a hit and got a bit warm so some slower laps had to be made.
Did get a bit dizzy on indy but some competition will keep it interesting..

Catch u soon
Ps. Let the fun begin

Welcome back @RagingBullLC - Please note I have moved you to line 4 of the table - Opel race number 326 for the next 3 rounds. If you do not have this car please use the Merc race number 20.

There were a few accidents on track today - I think these can be avoided if slower drivers make it easier for the faster drivers to pass by lifting off the throttle slightly on the straights - watch the red dots on the track map and also watch your mirrors carefully. Faster drivers - please be patient when lapping - try to avoid passing while cornering - try to save passing for the straights - this will be easier if the slower driver lifts slightly. I find that this only loses a couple of seconds at most, whereas a collision will lose both of you much more time.

Next week we are at Silverstone Classic which is filling in for Britain's fastest circuit - Thruxton - which sadly is not in the game - yet!

After the eventful race, here is the replay from my perspective:
(I've decided to not post Qualifying replays anymore. I'd rather focus on a more detailed summary of my races)

Two things can be said about my race: What a mess! And, oh boy, that was so much fun! :D I qualify 4th on the grid and am determined to finally put in a good 1st lap, where I don't lose a position. How hard can it be, right? :odd:
At the start, there is general confusion about what exactly is the first corner at Brands Hatch. @RagingBullLC decides it's Druids Bend, but other drivers have different opinions. Approaching Druids, you can see @Napalm_LT in my rear view mirrors storming through the field until @rj5992 stops him by resolutely defending the inside line. I then have a big moment, sliding through McLaren. I guess I have to try again on Wednesday for a decent first lap... Rejoining the track, @Napalm_LT approaches fast in my blind spot, and I ram him off the track. I am embarrassed and hope I didn't ruin his race right there. I'm in 6th place now, and have a great fight with @Oldbass47 starting on lap 5. He puts on a show of great defensive driving, covering the inside lines perfectly. At the end of lap 6, I get a great exit out of Clark Curve. But @Oldbass47 is having none of it, edging me to the left side of the track and slightly on the grass. Hard and fair racing! On the next lap, I slide again coming out of McLaren. This time, however, my path crosses @richroo's, and the contact sends me into the barriers.
At the beginning of lap 11, disaster strikes! The PS button on my wheel decides it also wants to have a part, and I find myself on the homescreen of my console :boggled: It's easy to spot in the replay, because the stream is interrupted for a couple of seconds. I rejoin dead last and already lapped by the leaders. I decide that I don't care, because the track is short and the cars fun to drive, so it won't be a lonely race like on the Nordschleife  It doesn't take long to catch up to the next positions: @Sick Cylinder makes it easy for me by going off the track at Paddock Hill Bend on lap 14, but @John Wells proves a harder nut to crack. I get a little impatient and try to sneak my way past on the back straight, but back out of it approaching Surtees to avoid a nasty collision. Better traction helps me to pass him on the pit straight. Later, @Napalm_LT and @slthree are putting on a great show in front of me, but at the beginning of lap 19, @slthree runs a little deep into the first corner. Rejoining the track, you can see his car suddenly twitch to the right. This happens so fast and looks so unnatural, that I think it's caused by connection lag. As a result, both touch, and all of the sudden I'm back in 7th place, coming from 12th.
Now starts the most enjoyable part of my race: From lap 19 until 2min to the finish, @Napalm_LT chases me through this up and down British banana. I realize that he's faster then me, but he bides his time. He ramps up the pressure continuously, until I have to start covering the corner approaches to defend my position. I do so, but moving to the inside approaching Druids on lap 33, am late on the brakes and run a little deep. This was surely the moment @Napalm_LT had been hoping for, and he moves to the inside. As we accelerate out of the corner side by side, I have the inside line for Graham Hills Bend. It's tough going through there as it is, but 2 cars wide is even tougher. I'm a little late on the brakes (again ), and as my car moves from one side of the track to the other, it crosses @Napalm_LT's path and there is slight contact that puts me into the grass. While we were battling, my teammate @Don Mejillone was sneaking up on us, and I lose so much momentum that he also slips through. Well, if I can't catch @Napalm_LT, you go get him!!! :)

So that was my race, 4th to 12th to 6th to 8th. Maybe it wasn't the result I hoped for, but if the on-track action in the next races is anything like yesterday's, I'm very much looking forward to them! Cheers, everyone

Hmm, I didn't notice any contact @WiSchmo. From your's replay it wasn't clean pass. Sorry

I agree what we need some more start procedure clarification. I always accelerate when car in from me do that, but there were few races I lost possition because guys behind me accelerates with guys in front of me, insted of waiting I do that, so now I trie keep small distance to car in front and press throttle as soon as guy in front do that. Yesterday were the same - car in front accelerated, I did the same, sudenly few cars slowed, i missunderstood why and went through.

Just observing in my write-up, not accusing, so don't worry about it. As far as I'm concerned, things like these happen, and there was no bad intention from your side. So it's all good! :D

Remember who rejoined the track in such a way, that he catapulted you off the track? Correct, that was me, haha  Also not intentional, but I guess karma caught up with me before the end of the race ;)

Not so tasty then. I hope he/she was able to help.

Sounds just like a real BTCC race you're describing above @WiSchmo. We must be doing something right then. :)

You think we have problems with the starts!

And crashes on corners? Well this is on a straight!

BTCC at it best.

I agree what we need some more start procedure clarification.

I'll clarify that now in that case then!

So on race start the cars set off in grid order, lining up one behind the other. If there's any confusion and people gain/lose places then they can gain them back on the run down to T1 IF (and only if) they can slot back into the correct position safely and before the braking zone for T1. The idea of the staggered start and this rule regarding regaining positions is so that no cars enter T1 two abreast...minimising the risk of a collision.

Pole position will be setting a pace of around half race speed. If in doubt then aim for 60mph/100kmh.

On certain tracks T1 isn't sufficient enough of a corner at 60mph/100kmh, like we have at Brands Hatch. In that situation the race will start on the exit of T2. Again, this is so we don't have a big braking zone battle at the start that could result in accidents.

On other tracks T1 leads into a complex of corners (think of T1 and 2 at Catalunya/Barcelona or Oschersleben). In this case the race will start on the exit of the last corner in the complex.

Hopefully that explains what we're doing and why we're doing it. If you want I could post on PSN where the race will start before each race, just to minimise confusion.

@WiSchmo great review of race keep it up :)
After droping to the rear of the field i hit the leadboot and pushed to get some places back, sorry to anyone i scraped by but i was in a hurry.
With the competition this tight i'm hopeful there will be multiple winners this season was close at the top.

@rj5992
Excellent explanation hopefully @Sick Cylinder can ad it to page 1 .

@AndreasR enjoyed our few laps :)

Ps.i agree with simba that fuel should be on as this would give weight change and help tyre load ? And possibly force a pit stop !

Hi chaps,
Sorry for my no-show last-night – as you can see from the results table the Renault transporter crashed on the way to Brands.

I will have to drop to reserve for Mondays until christmas at least, too much real life stuff going on. Will try to attend on Wednesdays as much as I can – with a new arrival imminent I can probably just about get away with one night of racing per week, and wednesday's schedule is both a bit more up my street and less likely to get me served with divorce papers.

The real reason for my AWOLness yesterday was a late return from Circuit des Remparts. For those not familiar, it's a historic race through the tight old city streets of Angouleme (a commune northeast of Bordeaux) that pays tribute to the pre-war days of major Grand Prix races being held there – think Monaco but with no harbour and more hairpins. The route through the city hasn't changed since the first race 80 years ago, and the old buildings still bear the scars of racing. Some turns are so tight certain cars barely have enough steering lock to get round them. The atmosphere is electric – the locals all bring their classics into town and I lost count of the number of pre-war Bugattis (some real) street-parked outside bars – I would thoroughly recommend anyone who fancies a Euro road trip to car event that isn't Le Mans/Spa or any of the other well-known classic events.

A few pics below, including some from the official tour of the surrounding countryside (which I drove in the E12 M535i pictured – jammy git I know ) that gets party-crashed by about 4000 locals in their classics! My pics don't really don't do the whole event justice but hopefully give a little flavour. The concours is on friday night, the tour on saturday and the racing on sunday. All with typically chaotic French organisation. A crazy but brilliantly surreal weekend!

Would love to have pre-war Alfas, Bugs, Mercs and Bentleys etc in PCR along with Angouleme circuit (although not sure how good it would be for online as there are few places to pass and even IRL overtakes often end up with at least one car stuffed into the wall!)

Posting where the race will start before each race is a good idea - if possible on GTPlanet and PSN. I will add some extra detail into post one, but probably won't have time to do this until later in the week.

Nice pictures @joedakiss - Angouleme Road Circuit - onboard GN Martyr:

Coming up, the replay and summary of my race:

Now that was fun! :D
Somehow, I manage to pick up a 1-place grid penalty during qualifying. I guess I must have sped coming into the pits, but don't get a notice until I see the summary screen at the session end. Well, 7th or 8th is not a big difference anyway, so I'm not too worried :sly: I then almost accidentally retire from the race, as my chin pushes a button on the wheel while I reach for my drink.
Having used up all my bad luck pre-race, I feel confident that today is the day to put in a decent 1st lap and don't lose a place or spin or go off or hit somebody... ;) The grid starts 3 cars wide, which catches me out for a second, but everybody slots reliably into their designated positions and the race takes off. I get a good run out of Copse and manage to put my car next to @IfAndOr. He secures the inside line for Becketts, and I brake conservatively and leave him room, mindful of my 1st lap considerations. The car train continues and a fierce battle develops in front of me. Down Chapel straight and into Stowe, I watch in awe, as @RagingBullLC spots a gap between @Napalm_LT and @richroo (who apparently has to slow down due to a penalty) to gain 2 places in one maneuver
Having made it through troublefree so far, I decide to push my luck, as @IfAndOr holds the racing line for the approach of the Woodcote chicane. I dive to the inside, brake as late as I dare and... make it past safely  A bit of ruthless self-praise: I'm mighty proud of myself (probably jinxing myself for Wednesday here ). In front of me, I witness @Napalm_LT taking out @richroo. I wonder if he lost his rear end, because he's still going to the right and into @richroo's path, when the normal racing line would have him turn left and through the chicane much earlier.
The next few laps are intense, because I don't know where to look. The battle in front of me continues and @RagingBullLC and @beachboy6658 put on superb driving. All the while, @IfAndOr is determined to retake his position, so I have to watch my mirrors. I make it more difficult for myself as a run wide coming out of Stowe and receive a slow down penalty on lap 3. I move off the racing line, convinced that I just lost my position, but somehow stay in front. He's much much closer now, though, and I have to cover the inside for Woodcote. The hunt continues, and I slowly eek out a gap. Didn't know I could hold my breath for that long :P
Over the course of the next few laps, I steadily catch up to the guys in front of me. I get closer and closer to @RagingBullLC, until I start to feel the slipstream on lap 12. The chase ends abruptly, because I'm too eager on the entry to Woodcote on lap 14, and all 4 wheels off the track hand me another slow down penalty. I decide to serve it after Copse, take my foot of the gas pedal, the penalty remains... All the hard work to catch up is ruined, as the gap to @RagingBullLC increases once more. It eventually goes away coming into Becketts, but I now have a rapid @richroo on my tail. The frustration eats away at my concentration, and I receive another penalty, as I run wide at Copse on the next lap. I decide to not give a damn and duly receive a 1s time penalty. At Stowe, @richroo brakes a little earlier, positions his car perfectly, and therefore accelerates much better out of the corner then I do. He passes me into Club corner, but I don't give up and try a switchback on him, which doesn't succeed as he shuts the door firmly in front of me. Well done! :)
In the closing stages, @Napalm_LT and a rejuvenated @IfAndOr put on a late charge, reducing the gap from 3.5s to about 1s. I can feel the pressure rising and am relieved when the checkered flag saves me.

I must say that I'm really enjoying these touring cars. It took me a little to get used to the FWD, but they make for superb racing. I feel, because they are not as fast and their aerodynamics are not as advanced, it's much easier to follow somebody closely without risking a crash. Also, the field doesn't spread as much. Looking forward to more of this! 👍
