Is it just one car? Is it for tourists or is it used for practical transportation?

Yes that blue is great, when you see it, the railway it runs on is 14 miles long, quite steep. When its busy, pull lots of carriages, its mainly tourists, but its only 20 mins down road. When railway first opened, it was 3', for passengers, rock in 1915, it got made into 15" .:D

Hi John - it looks similar to the locos on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway - I took my daughters on this railway when they were young children and they must have assumed that all trains were that size because when I later took them on a trip in a normal train they were very surprised that the train was so huge!

Just had a blast racing a random guy at a local open air karting circuit in the evening just on the outer limits of the city. I had been cruising around the town sort of aimlessly, enjoying my evening ride on a bike and then I decide to pop up in this area where local motorcyclists tend to hangout and practice their gymkhana. I thought maybe I should do some drills as well.

Saw a group of 3 people (2 guys and a girl) enjoying themselves and I figured I haven't done karting in a year! Jumped off my motorcycle, paid the fees and in 5 minutes or so those guys pitted to change karts (some sort of a rule apparently if you do more than 10 consecutive minutes of riding). So, I immediately jumped into the race. Had my motorcycle gear on, put on Gran Turismo 6 soundtrack (this is my typical driving music) and smashed that gas pedal.

One of the guys rolled out earlier than I (it's like an attraction in an amusement park, they won't let you race properly) and he had like 2/3 of a lap headstart but I eventually caught up and oh boy what a great battle that was! I'm glad they didn't ask us to stop but I'm pretty sure they were very nervous watching us lol

I put some good pressure on him, he held up his own well but eventually started to collapse and made a huge mistake by sliding too much, opened the inside racing line and I sure whizzed past through him. Quite spectacularly I must say!

Actually, we put on quite a show! Random people pulled out their mobile phones at a certain point and started filming our battle lol

There were several close calls in terms of contact (strictly prohibited and gets you off the circuit immediately) with the opponent as well as the tire walls of the circuit but I guess all this sim racing experience pays off after all.

Also, what a reminder that even a little bucket with four wheels and a minute engine that is a kart can be so exhilarating if you do it only once in a while and won't let yourself get used to the G-forces, sharp, heavy, raw steering and teeth-crushing vibrations. So much fun!

Buy also a sad reminder that we miss SO MUCH in our sim rigs...

Does anyone here race in real life, e.g. karting or something else?

I have long wanted to join some sort of a local karting club and do what we do here but only in real life racing karts but alas we don't have any as far as I know.

I very much enjoy open-wheel car concept. You can see your wheels centimeters away from the opponents', wind blasting into your face, you hear the roar of the engine. So awesome!

Just need to memorize this short video clip, and I should be fine next week :D;)

Willi, it is not hyperbole to say that that is the best YouTube video I have ever seen!

When someone links me to a video, I don't watch it until I can sit and completely enjoy it. I just watched the video for the third time in a row. This guy is freaking amazing and I could not detect a single mistake in his instructions. I guess that's what roughly 5,000 laps get you!

I'm surprised I've never seen that video before because over the past two years I have watched countless racing videos.

Anyway, thank you in a large way for sharing that.

I'm so terrible on the track and probably won't be able to join because, even with my racing lines on, I struggle. I can't imagine completing a lap with racing lines OFF since I don't have many laps at this track.

Thank you Willi

Interested in racing at the nurburgring on 09/09, I am new, how do I sign up!?

Hi Jack - use a Renault GT3 race number 33 please. There will probably be a space for you, because normally one or two regulars are absent. The series is fully subscribed, but you can have a reserve slot.

Please read the first few posts of the thread - note, to reduce accidents we start slowly with no overtaking until after completing the first corner.

The next round at Nurburgring Combined is the final one of the series. We then start new series - are you interested in Wednesday's as well or just Monday's?

@IfAndOr - anything to add for Jack?

Hello. :)

Actually I'll add don't speed in the pit lane or the game disqualifies you! Yeah and watch out at the start, don't race on green, follow the guy in front until he accelerates after the first corner (or corner complex). Oh and we avoid using mics during the session - they're distracting.

I can't think of anything else at the moment. But if I do I'll add it. Of course you can ask any questions and someone will help you out.

I rent competition karts on a regular basis for track days at a few circuits around where I live. I haven't ventured into racing competitively yet given the costs involved. I can afford to get into it if I tighten up my budget which is what I'm possibly looking into for next season.

In Canada, you have an affordable racing series thanks to the Briggs & Stratton LO206 engine that is merely $900 for a new unit with league regulations disallowing engine tuning. Here is a good race of said series near where I live: .

The drivers in this league are fast. I am still about 2 to 3 seconds off the pace on the circuits in the calendar and I absolutely steamroll casuals whenever I decide to do some arrive & drive which is great practice for overtaking.

The engines are quite a bit down on power (9hp w/ the top end around 80-85km/h) in comparison to the staple that is the Rotax max engine (125CC) which outputs 28 to 34hp and reaches speeds of 120-130km/h. Nevertheless, they are a lot more agile thus quite a bit quicker than any rental karts that you will try out given the reduced weight of the competition chassis (it's all about that power/weight ratio).

Once you try a competition kart, it's hard to go back into the arrive & drive ones; they'll feel like boats :P

Then you have open shifters that are definitely on my bucket list. The engine comes along with a transmission of 6 gears with the kart quite literally being a pocket rocket. Here is another clip of a great battle in open shifters at a local circuit of mine:

Karting is great and is arguably the purest form of motorsport. It teaches you all the fundamentals of vehicle dynamics and develops great reflexes. It'll also make you a better sim racer, imo.

@Kart_Forever lucky you! How much are you looking at in terms of racing competitively?

Don't call me lucky yet; we'll see if I'm able to respect a strict budget :P

The upfront costs involved for the Briggs series:

New kart chassis + engine = $4 500 to $5 000 / used kart chassis + engine (in good shape/race ready) = $3 000 to $3 500
New set of tires: $300 - a new set is suggested every race and there are 5-6 races per season. That's excluding club races that you can participate in at a local track if you chose to become a member which is $500/season.

Then you have other type of costs such as repairs if you ever get into incidents; hard to put a number on that.

What is the karting scene like in the Ukraine?

Something crazy - the Peel 250 Superkart race on the Isle of Man - 150mph round the streets!

Settings for Monday
20 minutes qualifying (should create 1 out lap and 1 or 2 flying laps)
3 lap race
No pit stop

Make sure you spread out during the out lap so you can get a clear qualifying lap - let faster drivers pass on the out lap so you don't get bunched.

Good luck all!

Finally back on the karting theme! Recent 250 Superkart action from the appropriately named "Nutts Corner"

I wonder why they removed the shifter karts and superkarts that were in PCars 1, I used to enjoy them. Doesn't seem to make sense since I don't think they'd need licences, they were SMS originals. They would have made for some fun online racing.

Those superkarts are incredible. Racing them on a street circuit is properly bonkers; great footage there.

Maybe physics problems? I don't know why, but I would welcome them back to PC3 if they were good to drive - I enjoyed the superkarts at Cadwell and would love it if they included my local kart track - Buckmore Park - owned by the late John Surtees family and the track where Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and many other stars began their motor racing careers.

I don't really know much. Even though I live in one of the biggest cities, we have just one simple and small-ish circuit made of tires in a stadium parking lot on the edge of the city. Basic rental karts.

However, I think in other cities like Ternopil, Odessa and the capital, Kyiv, they have more rental karts, more powerful rental karts, better tracks (but nothing like you'd see in your countries), clubs and organized events. People do race competitively in those cities but I'm not aware to what extent to be honest.

We also had "Red Bull Kart Fight Ukraine" back in 2016 but it seems it was a one-off race event.

I competed in the Super One series and the RAC British TKM Championship back in 1990.I absolutely loved it, though it soon became clear my boyhood dreams of making it to F1 would remain dreams as my ambition far out weighed my talent!I did come second out of 10 drivers in the rookie of the year competition in the super one series though. That one season cost me around £5000 even back then, the top guys would have been spending double that,as it was that £5000 was every penny I had available as an 18 year old.Races were held all over the UK ,even a round in Scotland, so just getting to some races was a major expense

Guys...I’m so sorry I haven’t been around recently. Personal life catching up with me big time...it’s been so hard to get time to race. I’ve not even been to see racing in over a month...which is extreme for me!

When does the next series start? I thought it was tonight but I now hold out hope that it’s next week? I fancy blasting some cars round Brands...but the schedule says one thing and the thread title suggests another?

post 2048 sick says that it is Nürburgring tonight, 100 % sure

Andreas is correct! The schedule was amended in response to requests for more races at the Nurburgring.

The track lists for the rest of the year are currently being revised - I encountered an IT problem so have had to create new spreadsheets.

New Monday series for modern touring cars starts next week @ShaunyB @Don Mejillone and all drivers.
