Mon 20:00-21:30 UK time - PC2 - Hosted by @IfAndOr - Please refer to new threadPS4

They are very odd kerbs in PC2 but especially at RA, they draw you in and spit you out. It makes you tip toe around near them. He does mention in the video "the traction control works well" as he drives over them, so I might stick mine on high for this race to see if that helps.

He also say's "we're allowed to use all of the road" a couple of times - note to PD and their limits.

Found this in preparation for Monday's race:

It contains a lot of useful information, like the wheel movement and throttle/brake pedal input.

I watched it once when you first posted it. Was mostly curious to see the track layout. I then had a mere 5 lap practice early in the day yesterday, then jumped straight into qualification in the evening (took P7) and then straight into the race.

I was quite happy with P7 given it was a completely unfamiliar track and next to zero practice. I have just watched this video again and I noticed that I had figured out all the correct gears at every turn of this track.

Yay! Maybe I'm not that hopeless after all! I do struggle with being consistent, though.

*Sigh*

Well, at least I got the start this time right lol

I was also surprised by all the complaints about this track being difficult. But yeah apparently a lot of people spun yesterday quite a few times and uncharacteristically more than on any other track we've done before (I spun like up to 10 times I think! lol)

Personally, I thought it was challenging but also actually very fun. Much like Brno was.

I think I like these types of circuits the most. Medium-sized and technical with a couple not too long straights. Kind of perfect.

Happy to provide yesterday's replays:

Qualifying: The combination of not having raced my boat (the GT3 Bentley ;)) for 3 weeks and not having practiced at Road America proved a tough combination. Very scruffy session including many spins and a nasty crash, but I somehow managed to get a decent spot on the grid.

Race: Now this was fun! Great wheel to wheel racing with @rj5992, and later with @richroo. Unfortunately, I lost focus during the last 10min and was lucky to have a cushion behind to absorb my spin(s).

ILIV you can watch people, when your in the pits, find this helpful for gears. Was quite a good race, though loose settings, caught me out a couple of times.:boggled:

I really quite like the circuit, there's a nice flow to it.

It's not quite so much that it's a difficult track, it's that the kerbs and rumble strips seem to be unrealistically modeled*. They seem to be very slippy, with traction being lost much too easily. They'll either pull you in, with the opposite wheel getting traction, or spit you out, with the wheel in contact spinning up. Both often ending in you facing the wrong way.
The best way to prevent it is to ease off the power on them - or avoid them all together.

After watching @WiSchmo 's video and the commentary from the driver I stuck my traction control on high for yesterday's race. It worked a treat with the engine stuttering continuously as I drove over the kerbs proving their lack of grip. There were still a couple of hairy moments but they were catchable.

*although the real driver had problems!

Wednesdays group C cars don't have traction control so we'll see how successful I am it keeping it pointed in the right direction then!

Oh, yeah, you guys mentioned those sinister kerbs before the race and I kept that warning in mind and yes, I agree, it's as if they're made of ice! Very unforgiving in the game but do not seem to be much of a problem in real life. I use authentic settings so that probably means the Nissan GT3 car has TC on by default, right? The kerbs were still pretty damn unforgiving!

I also meant to say...

@WiSchmo
While you're "borrowing" your neighbours WiFi it's probably best not to stream. The increased bandwidth will possibly help prevent any lag. đź‘Ť
Let's hope the man in the van fixes your connection

Yes, by default it should be set on low assistance. I notched mine up onto high. :)
It makes the car less dynamic to drive but really came into its own last night.

Fantastic, yet again, Mr Wells

I stare at these pictures and zoom in on every one of them and my wife thinks I'm nuts!

What is the Blue, blue, and Orange Car, #135?

My line was stable all day yesterday, so fingers crossed that it will stay like that for the race :nervous:
Ah, and my neighbor actually knows, kind of. She was nice to let me use her WiFi when I moved in and had to wait for my line to be set up, and I have the login data saved ever since for "emergencies"

Looking through the pictures made me think that maybe we should have fitted off road tyres. :P

That'll be me in my NSX. It's in the wrong colour scheme but it is eye-catching dontcha think? :)
(and it went faster than my green one!)

Lots of action in the pictures! Rear wings snapping off, cars wrecking into each other!! It was a nice drive on an empty road for me in the back :D

Mon GT3 Round 5 Road America.jpg

Please Note: This series has been extended by one round. The next round (6) will be at the Red Bull Ring. The final round (7) will be at the long Nurburgring Combined circuit which uses the new and old circuits combined together.

@Mr Tree - if you wish to join in for the last couple of rounds please use the Renault race number 32.

All Racers - Please Note: the programme for the rest of the year will be slightly different - revised schedule will be posted in due course.

How's the hurricane looking Sean (@slthree)? All prepared? Stay safe!

Thanks for asking, Paul. This darn thing has stalled over the Bahamas. It's hard to predict when it will hit us, but we are likely to be hit.

What time is the race normally over? I'm getting pressure to go out to Disney (something I loathe), leaving at 4:45-5pm. Are the races usually over by then?

I really want to race, as I've practiced for this one.
