The most prestigious Grand Prix of the calendar is up this weekend, and has offered many an upset throughout it's history. So, do we think anything will upset the Schumacher Show?

possibly...i say if Trulli or Alonso can get their car on the front row, they can beat mr schumacher. qualifying and the start are the most important aspeccts of monaco, and with that renault start system...DAMN!!

but monaco is a drivers circuit, and we all know that right now schumacher is the best driver.

the weather forecast for rain....now that would be interesting

My god, you're right, I hadn't checked a weather forecast yet. Wow, that'd own, what a place for the first wet race of the season.

F1.com agrees with you, so now we get to wait for the practice pace and qualifying.

If a renault can qualify in the top 3, the run down to the first corner will be interesting. This race is also a good chance for McLaren to get some good points if they can qualify well and keep reliability.

So far, we've seen Michael qualify there-or-thereabouts on more fuel than the others. Then, when he's beaten away from the line, he waits for the leader to pit. He uses the clear track to go up to 1.5s per lap faster than the leader was managing, and hey presto, another win.

In answer to Eagle's question therefore: no.

Well, so far Schumi has the fastest time in free practice, with Taku and Jenson in 2nd and 3rd, almost a second a lap slower than Schumi.

...Which has made me wonder if the Ferrari engine just seems to run that much stronger in "clean air" rather than following behind another car?

Or maybe it's just because Michael Schumacher is a damn good driver?

In the rain at Monaco in 1996, MS spun off and crashed on the first lap. In 1997, it also rained, and he won it in a walk. If qualifying and the race get rained out, then it will be interesting. Otherwise, who else but Schuey?

M.Schumacher is owning everyone right now and i don't see why it would be different this race.He has the best car and he is the best driver. Now as far as the Renaults go with their super starts,if they manage to get in front of Schumacher at the start he will simply follow them and wait untill they make a pitstop. He will then continue driving with a lighter car an win some time, make a pitstop and come back in front of them.Exatly as GilesGuthrie said.

I may actually get to see this race, since it's being broadcast live on Sunday morning on Speedvision. It would be the first F1 I've watched in years.

Ferrari have that new fuel combination giving them a lap or more than the other driviers with the same amount of fuel. So aslong as nothing happens to him I think it will be 6 in a row for msc

haha, well I agree. BAR may be a threat but short of an MS mistake it will probably prove to be another repetition of the season so far.

In that case, we're going to be stuck debating the minor placings - assuming Rubens doesn't spend his afternoon staring at diffuses he may emerge for second, leaving us to ponder if Renault or BAR will win best of the rest. Or can McLaren and Williams show some of the form we've been waiting for? Monaco was a turning point last year, but Montoya and Schumacher have been off the pace so far, and Ralf's now set to lose 10 grid positions for an engine swap.

You know he won't do anything in that car so why expect him to? He can really drive but that car won't help him do the job.

YAY, 900th post!

I dunno I have to disagreee with you on that. Yes he can drive but that Jaguar isn't too shabby. Most of the time it's mainly been luck happering him this season. Personally I honestly belive that Jaguar are best of the rest now (after Ferrari, BAR, Renault and Williams) and think that they are really battling with McLaren and Sauber. Klien I think resembles a crock of ****, btu then again what do you expect from a paying driver. Just a bit of reliabilty I think is holding him back. You wait til mid season then you'll see Webber get right up there. I mean look at Malaysia, can't all be down to Webber...

I'd say it was, personally, in the same Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna so often made off-pace cars look impressive.

First Saturday practice is nearly over, and Schumacher and Barrichello once again sit atop the stack, albeit 1 seconds slower than yesterday's ultimate pace. Humidity's high and track temperature is mid to low 20's. Wonder if we might get some rain after all, weather forecast still holds rain for tomorrow.

Well speak of the devil, Webber just nailed third, lowered his best time by almost 2 seconds.

Rubens just lowered his mark to be within 2 hundredths of Michael, half a second clear of the field.

Second practice is on.

ATM Michael Schumacher, Jarno Trulli and Takuma Sato are separated by 6 thousandths of a second... Unbelievable.

Alonso and Montoya have just moved to within 2 tenths of Michael.

I guess I spoke to soon. Button just took second. It would have been really cool if Renault had first and second, but oh well. I like Button, so it's nice to see it lost to a guy I like.

Monaco looks gorgeous today, doesn't it? :embarrassed:

Trulli gets pole! First of his career! :D

I bet Renault wins this race. Pit strategy is really critical in this race. So far the Renault team have the fastest pit times. Pole is very critical as well. Having both will give Renault a huge edge.

Schummi has got his work cut out for him now tho', starting 4th. Although Trulli intimated that the Renaults are light on fuel. So it looks like it's all down to Jenson.

Pretty much my thinking, as long as he doesn't get baulked too far down, things should be fine.

I'm thinking the Renault's have about 2 laps less of fuel than the Ferrari, perhaps one, and 2 less for Button.

The weather forecase, with just under 12 hours to go, still shows rain. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I've been waiting for Monaco all year this year, I don't really know why though. But I've been anticipating this race since the last race at Spain. It's about to start and I'm like a little kid about to get some candy. Well I'm going to go watch the race. Hopefully it'll be a great race! All of you have fun watching it.

Ack! Delayed start! *sigh*

Schummi crashes behind the safety car! What the hell happened? Did Montoya slam into him? I couldn't see it too well. OK, Montoya apologizes to the Ferrari team, so I guess he did hit Michael. Crazy race!

What the hell was Alonso thinking? Passing on the outside of the tunnel with all that rubber build up on the outside. Stupid.
