I wouldn't be surprised if Rossi retired after such a bad season and losing Simo, his very close friend. Terrible stuff.

I had a similiar thought. And Stoner is about to become a family man in 4 months, this has to be a nasty realisation for him too.

Similar thought as well. I mean, obviously it is a very tough one for Rossi after such a bad season, now with the death of his close friend in which he was also involved.

Stoner on the other hand is going to be in dilemma as to whether continue or what. This is very, very tough for them to decide.

Another sad thought goes out to the Gresini team personnel - who the late, great Daijiro Kato raced for :(

With so few fatalities in motorcycle racing (relative to the risks involved) it was only a matter of time until something awful happened.

Certainly reminds everybody that motorsport is dangerous and that drivers and riders risk their lives to do something they love. That, right there, is something to admire.

I'm hoping this won't spark an outcry about lack of safety in the motorcycling world, as there is not much else that can be done, prevention-wise.

Shame on you Malaysia booing. Why do you think the race was cancelled. You should be ashamed

As a Malaysian, I feel sick when they started booing. I'm terribly sorry on their part for being disrespect of the situation...

The announcer should've also given more information to what was going on.

When Dan Wheldon died, his accident shook me. I didn't really understand why until now. I wasn't a fan of Wheldon, and I won't insult his memory by claiming that I was. But I was - and still am - a fan of Marco Simoncelli. He had a real personality about him; he was exciting and quick, and he was a breath of fresh air compared to the likes of Casey Stoner. But mostly, I liked him because of his hair. I have never seen a racing driver with half as much hair as Marco, and it always amused me a little to wonder how he managed to fit it all in his helmet. Not knowing much about MotoGP at the time, it was just that one little element about him that made me support him before anyone else. It seemed silly at the time, but now it seems strangely important.

He will be missed.

I agree with you 100% prisonermonkeys (maybe except for the hair part). The reason why I supported Marco was because he wasn't one of those "made for TV/media" riders and the fact that he was competing with and beating the factory riders. When I saw the crash it reminded me of Tomizawa's tragic crash last year and immediately I feared the worst. His death shocks me, and I'm afraid will for quite a time to come.

And as a Malaysian, I'm in part with the disrespectful fans want to apologize for the booing and noises in a critical possible time.

Yeah, same here....

Man, i was so shock hearing the news. I was on the brink to watch Moto GP live on my TV but somehow i didn't. Then this happen. :(

Marco, he's a fantastic rider. I keep my eyes on him since last season. To see him died is...i'm really, really sad right now.

First Wheldon, now Marco. R.I.P to both of them....
I also get the feeling that Sepang might be off from calendar after this fatal crash. Remember Suzuka with Kato crash. That circut just became illegal after the death.

Any further news on Edwards? I hope he can ride in Valencia, if nothing more then to exorcise some demons he may be confronting.

Yeah, same here....

This is how it looks like around the circuit after the race been cancelled.

Warning! And this, if anybody is willing to see.

Da 🤬?!
My god, this is an embarrassement...trully it is...

And yeep, the marshal doing a good job, covering Marco from the spectator and cameras from taking that shoots of him.

I had a bad night... My 4y old hit his head and spent the night in the hospital for observation after a clean cat scan.

So I was pissed about missing this mornings events. Now I feel almost as bad as when my kid started throwing up last night.

No words to express what my stomach is saying right now.

RiP

Hope your kid is okay and well. :)

Thanks. He's ok. Just (yet another) scare...

What a freakin week...

Only saw the footage once on Tv (respectfull once display) and it's pretty clear what happened. Hate to be on Edward or Rossi's place...

Agree with previous posts and a "quits" from any of them wouldn't surprise me.

🤬

Some rumours has been saying that we might not get Sepang next year as a result of multiple crashes this weekend. What's your guys take on it?

I think it will be kind of harsh if Sepang does get taken off the calendar. The Friday morning crashes of Marquez and Smith were poor marshalling ok, but that's hardly a reason to remove the track. Lesson learned.

Pons and Corsi/ Corti also had nasty ones, but where typical racing incidents (one high-side and one lowside, unfortunately sliding into another rider, which made a lot worse).

The big accident can happen anywhere - Misano, Sepang, heck, there are faster tracks out there. I think it would be a knee-jerk to blame the circuit and hope it doesnt come to that.

It's a shame, I'm planning to go back to Sepang next year because I missed last year's race. A lot of people are blaming the circuit for this but I'd just say it's ridiculous. I've never seen such horrendous accidents since it's debut in Sepang back in 1999...

Malaysia has some of the most experienced motorsport marshals in Asia. They've been doing the Formula 1 Grand Prix for twelve years, and motorcyles since 1991.

When did the dailymail become such a trashloid? They are publishing some disturbing images they really have no business posting :irked:

Racing is too rough for me.

I choose to no longer stomach these tragedies by not watching it anymore. I cant even stand to imitate it anymore. The DGT and GT5 have been sold. Racing has been in my life for as long as I can remember. But I have finally realized the risks are simply unacceptable.

If I may, Earth, I think you may be over-reacting a little bit. While Dan Wheldon's accident was certainly one that could be prevented, Marco Simoncelli's was not. Simoncelli's death certainly was an accident; when he felt the bike start to go away from under him, he simply did what any other rider would have done and tried to right it. Likewise, neither Rossi nor Edwards could have done anything differntly; by the time they realised Marco Simoncelli was under them, they had no time to react.

If you need someone or something to blame, perhaps you can blame the way modern safety standards have made us complacent. When the race in Sepang started, did it occur to anyone that it could end in a tragedy? Did anyone think that a rider could fall in the path of another? We saw it with Shoya Tomizawa at Misano last year, and while the sport recovered, did anyone believe that it could happen again, and so soon? Perhaps motorsport is too safe, and we subconsciously push aside the dangers because of the safety features.
