Multi-monitor support in GT6?

@Phouchg
I was thinking the same, having that large of a screen setup may be over kill, but after looking at it may be for a reason. Environmental awareness may have factor to why the screen are so large.

No mention of multi-monitor support in the newly announced feature list, not even listed as coming in a later update. Disappointing, makes GT6 kinda pointless for those of us who have invested in the extra hardware.

I didn't see any Fanatec support either..not listed:tdown:👎

Fanatec pretty much works on any game, it doesn't need to be supported because it has its own internal software.

If amar212 is wrong about it (haha that's funny), then PD will still be able to patch support for (specific) Fanatec steering wheels at a later date like they did with the G25/G27. Wasn't full support for the Thrustmaster added in at a later date as well? I'm not sure.

I was just about to buy 2 more screens... mainly for GT6. I think I will wait the game's release...

I hope that the feature exists and they just forgot to talk about it.

Wel,, I am not wrong ;)

Fanatec PWTS, GT3 V2, GT2, CSR and CSRE are all using G25 EMU profiler in PS3 mode if I am not mistaken.

Fanatec CSW is using either G25 (for 035 firmware version) or G27 (for 037 firmware version) EMU profiler.

Thus, all Fanatec wheels are supported by PS3 in the PS3 mode despite not being supported through games, because Fanatec does not have its own PS3 drivers (SDK/API) while it uses Logitech EMU (which is also not exactly Logitech to be precise, but the Imerssion Company TouchSense SDK for actual haptic feedback and Logitechs profilers for PS3 API, but never mind that now).

👍 I didn't know that.

Amar, thanks for the info. Would you happen to know anything about multi-monitor support being included in GT6? I know my Fanatec will work but if the multi-monitor support has been removed I will find myself in a dilemma.

I sure hope they include multi-monitor support in GT6. I have three copies of the game pre-ordered and paid for.

Yeah, Only this Year I Finally got 2 more screens, and 2 more PS3's. Multi Screen is the only way to drive now..
If GT6 Doesn't have it, I'll be totally disappointed..
Sure I will enjoy it in Single screen.. but my Investment will be wasted...

It's got to be in there... How could they not include it?

Even if it comes later as a Patch.. Just as long as it has it...

I'd like to think it's going to be included, I can't imagine it requires much space or resources so hopefully it didn't have to be removed to make way for something else. If the basic engine that the game runs on hasn't changed dramatically (which it doesn't seem to have) then I would guess that the GT5 multi-monitor code would carry over easily to GT6. But on the other hand I would have to guess that less than 1% of GT players used the feature so if something had to be done away with I could see this feature going away.

If anybody finds any news relating to this, please post here to let us know! 👍

I am confident it will be in:

- K. Yamauchi likes it and uses it
- Gran Turismo series brought multi-monitor to Console gaming (ps2). The is a legacy.
- Forza 5 does not seem to have it. So triple display is a good way for GT6 to be more impressive visually than FM5 even on a previous gen machine
- Despite some marketting communication, GT6 is based on an evolution of gt5 engine on the same console
- The price of the PS3 has never been lower than it is today so multi-monitor on GT6 makes more sense than it did on GT5.

On the other hand, it is a low priority for PD for obvious number of users reasons, so it will happen if they have time, and maybe in a patch for the same reason.

I certainly hope you are correct, but I've seen them do some very strange things before so it wouldn't surprise me to see it go away. It seems they don't use the multi-monitor setups in any of their demo's anymore, they're always the big circle devices with one monitor and a wheel, so I'm not sure if they have much use for the feature anymore. But if you say Kaz likes it and uses it then that would be enough of a reason for them to leave it in there. I bet he uses all 5 monitors too. :sly: I have to say, if GT6 still supports all 5 monitors, and with the prices of PS3's about to (hopefully) plummet with the release of the PS4........I could see a 5 monitor setup in my future!

Jordan, you just made my week!! 👍 I have 3 PS3's and 3 display's ready and waiting! Thanks for searching this out for us, and for all the hard work you've done here.
There's a happy man:lol: Hopefully it comes early:cheers:

Very happy!! :gtpflag: I wasn't super worried but I didn't want to get my hopes up and find out it had been removed. This means I can put off building a racing PC for at least another year or two, it looks like GT6 will have plenty to keep me occupied and happy for a while and make organizing online racing a lot more enjoyable!

That is such a weird setup.. Like sitting in a giant car ^^ Probably works if you sit a bit further away though..
Lol, you are right, I never noticed that before. He looks like a little kid in driving a car. I guess that brings in the idea that as monitors get bigger, it would be nice to be able to adjust your FOV or scaling so that the proportions are realistic. Probably easier said than done though...

Awesome news, thank you Jordan. I have been doing triple screen GT5 for over a year now and could not bear the thought of going back to a single screen for GT6. My three copies of the game are already pre-ordered and paid for and I am otherwise ready to rock and roll.

Just be prepared for multi-monitor to not be available at launch. We're already seeing other features being added later via update and considering this feature was added to GT5 with an update it might be the case this time as well. I'm not trying to rain on the parade, just keeping my expectations realistic.

GT6 will be available for full download on PSN, and since you can install the digital copy on 2 consoles (while only having to pay once) that means for us triple-monitor players we can save the purchase price of one game. I have a Gamestop pre-order hard copy coming but will also purchase the PSN download and then install it on my 2 client machines. This is really great news!

From the GT website:
"Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia (SCEJA) is also announcing that GT6™ download version will be released on December 5th on PlayStation®Network (PSN) and rewards for early purchasers which are free upgrade to 15th Anniversary Edition, extra three 15th Anniversary designed cars and GT6 avatars.
What’s more, PS Plus members will be treated to a free download of “15th Anniversary designed Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 N24” from 5th – 25th December on PS Store."

It's up on the UK PSN for pre-order and guess what? We have to pay extra to get the Anniversary edition. :banghead:

No free update for us.

Well you'll still need to buy one physical copy if you want all 3 monitors to work (I believe the digital PSN game can only be on 2 consoles), so use that to get your Anniversary addition. That's what I'm doing, my physical copy is on pre-order from the local gaming store and I get a free Anniversary upgrade as well as all the Anniversary liveried cars. We still have to purchase the game at least twice, but that's slightly better than 3 times. 👍

Since multi monitor support is going to most likely be in gt6 does anyone think they'll keep the fov and scaling tweaks there as well? I use a 90 degree fov despite not using multiple monitors. The sense of speed and, more importantly, my awareness of where the passenger side tire has greatly been improved and I've lapped faster lap times because of it. Gimme guesses or point out obvious hints I'd have missed confirming these features being included.
EDIT: please :D Mind my ignorance just going to b disappointed if 1x1 fov tweaks arent an option

My guess is that they'll use the same code in GT6 to handle multi-monitor, so your 90 degree trick should still be there, if not at launch time.

Forza used essentially the same multi-monitor support in all Forzas (1, 2, 3 and 4). In Forza 4, they removed a useful function, which was the ability to put the HUD instruments on a side screen, thus providing an uncluttered road view on the center monitor.

Now I have to display my ignorance with a question which is important to me.

In GT5, how is DLC handled across multiple PS3s in multi-screen mode, and how is it handled if some online players don't have the same DLC packs as I do?

Reason I'm asking is that things got very convoluted in Forza 4 regarding DLC, and I'm hoping that it's simpler in GT5 (and hopefully GT6). Here's how Forza works. For most DLC in Forza, they'd give away one car in a car pack which would allow all of the cars in the DLC pack to be rendered, but only the free one to be driven. This meant that if I was racing against a friend online in a paid-for DLC car, he could see my car even if he had not paid for it, so long as he installed the free car out of the set. He could drive only the free one of course.

So far so good. That's a workable solution.

Then along came the Porsche pack, all $30 of it. In this pack, there was no free car. The consequence of this was that unless my friend bought the $30 Porsche pack, he could not see any Porsche I drove. What he'd see is something similar to a VW Jetta with black paint.

It gets worse. His console would calculate collisions based on the size of the Jetta, and so if I drove my little 550 Spyder too close to him, he'd perceive a collision when there wasn't one.

And there's more bad news about the Forza implementation. Unless I bought and paid for the $30 Porsche pack under three different GamerTags, my cockpit view would show 550 Spyder on the center screen and Jetta interior on the side screens. This is definitely uncool. There is a workaround which involves sequentially logging into each of the client Xboxes with my GamerTag, starting up Forza, logging out, moving to the next Xbox and so on. If any Xbox froze during online play, I was out of the online game until I had rebooted all the Xboxes sequentially as above.

So, pardon my paranoia, and my PS3/GT5 ignorance, but should I expect any strange DLC behavior in multi-screen GT5?

I previously ran Forza 4 on triple screens and am very aware of the problems you describe. Those problems are part of the reason I sold the two extra 360s and copies of Forza 4 back to the game store after several months. On the other hand, I have run GT5 triple screens for over a year and have loved every minute. I have only experienced two problems. The first is I would lose connectivity between the client side screens and the server center screen occasionally because the server IP address would change on its own. That issue is easily resolved by entering the correct IP address on each of the client side screens and rebooting the game. The second issue, which has never been resolved, is that the PD-made custom tracks, such as Tuscana, would not render on the side screens. So, whenever I did one of the custom tracks in a race, I was limited to single screen. I never had a problem with DLC cars.

Hi Zero,

Thanks for the reply!

Of course, an answer is no good unless there are follow-up questions! ;-)

So in setting up the GT5 multiscreen, does one have to provide IP addresses to establish communication? Sounds clunky, but not a showstopper.

And second question, what happens if I create my own track with Course Maker and want my side screens to correctly render my home made track? Is that possible? I'm guessing that I would have unique PSN ids for the client PS3s and they'd download my shared track. Or maybe it happens automagically?
