Mustanng's GMC build

31s are stock IIRC, or are one of the stock sizes. 32s are stock on F250s.

You should seriously look into a getting an older one. You can get a real nice one for about $5k.

215/75/15 and 235/75/15 were stock sizes. 31x10.50 was never offered stock until somewhere around 94 I want to say. Never on a brick nose. I'm not trying to go older, I don't want to DD a 35 year old vehicle.

Went checking around today. Drove a '96 F250 with a 460. Talk about some balls, damn! Trans didn't shift right so I passed. Then drove a 95 Silverado Z71 350/5speed. Thing death wobbled at 35mph... guy didn't want to budge off 3 grand, and the truck was missing half the interior, converted to carb, etc.

Then I found one I think I may pursue. It's a 98 F150 4x4. $3900. 140k. Drove great, no oil leaks, has 1 ding in the body, all but the passenger window tinted. Extended cab, 3 door truck. Has an exhaust system on it already, sounds great. Only negatives I found were the tires being lower on tread (about 5/32s), spongy brake pedal and an exhaust leak at the driver side header it sounded like.

My F250 was offered with 215/85 and 235/85 which work out to be 32ish. 235/85 is equivalent to 265/75.

Personally I would stay away from 97-04 F150s. They are a legit pain in the balls to work on.

Well I did.

Actually, I did the unthinkable...

But the price was right....

And the interior is mint, newer motor, rides as smooth as my buddies 06 Silverado

Decided to skip on getting a car payment. More important to save that money to get out of the parents house. Feel like I'm slacking still being here at 21. Cosmetics need a little help, so those will come after any mechanicals. Paint job and a new bed will be coming soon.

It's a 92 Sierra, 350 small block, 4 speed auto trans, 173k, newer motor/trans, and the suspension has been gone through pretty well. Needs an idler and pitman arm, and tires and it's good to go. Final price of $1400

I hope you have a pitman arm puller. The idler/pitman arm on this are a pain in the balls to get off. I pretty much rebuilt a front end on one of those (actually most of its underpinnings), it rides decent but the IFS setup is a pita.

Nice truck though, should serve you well. They can take some abuse for sure.

Already got that figured out. My buddy at work said as long as I buy the pickle fork I can use his air hammer and problem solved. It's really nice working at a shop!

Made a deal for some 30% tread 235/75/15s. $100, should last me until I put the lift together. 4" spindle, 2" block, 15x10s and 32x11.50 tires.

Found out the other day at work why the dang thing is so low... Some PO dropped the back by 3". So I'll get that back stock, sell the shackle drop, sell my 15x10 Ford wheels, and then it's really just tires I'm coming out of pocket for. Never realized how much Centerline 12 holes were worth!

Pickle forks will work but it really beats the hell out of everything else. I would only use that as a last resort.

Have fun with it!

Alright guys, first "It's a god damn chevy" moment, only 3 days later.

Intermittent stalling, loss of power. Will not pull smoothly through the revs. Gets to 3k, feels like it shuts down, then picks back up and continues to redline.

So far I've heard Ignition control module, and I've heard fuel pump. I've replaced the air filter and fuel filter today, and added some fuel injector cleaner. Feels very fuel related, but I'm still a baby in knowledge on these TBI engines.

The GM fuel pumps are notorious for sucking especially on that particular model. I'd start there. Sounds like a pump issue.

Day 6: It's a god damn chevy moment #2

Wiper pulse board module (from what I've been told by a few people and some wire wiggling) is frying itself. Another fun, common problem. Had to drive home with wipers that worked like two swipes in the course of 10 miles. Then I got home and they started up.

Speaking of common Chevy truck failures, I've had experience with, though not really driven, a 1992 Chevrolet K1500 WT and a 2004 GMC Sierra K1500 WT. In both cases the heaters liked to stop working whenever - usually in the winter when a heater failure causes maximum misery (I think the 1992 needed several replacements over its lifespan - and I'm not sure if it hasn't needed more, since it was sold still running and its current owner apparently still uses it occasionally). I'd get the heater checked sometime to make sure it's not going to pull that on you.

The blower motor likes to go on these trucks as well. The system on these trucks aren't the greatest for heat. That's probably what W&N is getting at here.

Now that I think about it that's probably what it was. All I remember is an important part needing to be replaced multiple times over in the 1992, and freezing my butt off in the 2004. I'm also pretty sure it was the same part in both trucks. I wanted to say heater core but I wasn't sure.

Both the heater core and blower motors on these models aren't too great, but the blower motor tends to be the worse of the 2. My friend had an early 90s one and you'd have to kick it up under the dash for it to work at some speeds or even at all. It was very moody in how it wanted to work and you basically have to rip the dash out to replace it. Because of this I didn't do it (but then again I simply didn't want to work on it anymore after redoing half of it underneath, front the entire front steering/suspension and alignments to replacing the gears, brake and fuel system, and the gas tank itself and everything related)

For a 22-year-old truck, it looks in remarkably good condition. Better than a Chevy, I suppose.

Aside from the bed being beat up, the cab forward is all straight without a ding in it. So once I get a bed and paint it, it's going to look pretty good.

As far as the heat and what not goes, the blower motor does work, not sure about heat. When I turned off the climate control (electronic controls... ew) on the test ride, the whole module hasn't turned back on since lol

Look for an electrical short.

Surprised it has electronic controls. The few my buddies have had weren't;t, including a 96 GMC.

I'm probably just going to get a new module out of the junkyard lol. I haven't been bothered to chase it down yet. Just driving it for now. Gotta do a rear U-joint, idler/pitman arm, and RF inner tie rod. Then comes the lift, and tires :D Then I'll get it painted, then I'll worry about the climate controls

Well, I've had the truck 7 weeks now. Made some pretty good progress. Everything mechanical short of repacking the wheel bearings and finding where an intermittent clunk is coming from, has been done. Good tires on the truck, 33x12.50s have been purchased, and mounted to the 15x10s I took off my Ford. Grille has been re-furbed, headlights/marker lights replaced, chrome mexi-rice tail lights niteshaded to look presentable, and a good washing

*sucks in breath* Not sure about that window sticker... the Dodge guys will definitely hate it. I mean, it's not a chevy. It's a GMC...

Aaaaand the new headlights remind me of the Queen Family Truckster. Just saying.

I would recommend bedliner for your next modification.

Why'd you remove the valance? Wouldn't that cause further aerodynamic trouble, increasing drag, lift, or both and decreasing the maximum speed possible before handling and stability become sketchy?

Are you worried about the handling, aerodynamics, and top speed of a old GMC?

GMC/Chevy trucks are identical.

This truck will be lucky to see 105mph. They are limited to around 95 IIRC.

Those 33s are going to look sweet. I miss those 33x12.5's.

Yeah it is a Chevy...just more heavy duty is what GMC would have you believe but nonetheless a Chevy
