For those of you who like to study the racing lines for the GP and Nordschleife her are two links, both which could be very helpful both for GT5 and GT6 and of course those of you who like to visit Nürburg and the Nürburging :-D ... and most likely get the pineapple price ;-)

http://www.silhouet.com/motorsport/tracks/nurburgr.html

http://www.bmwccaringschool.com/gallery/nordschleife.pdf

Here is a link which shows videos and pictures on each section, filmed from car, front, rear etc, very helpful for those of you who want to get a more depth and visualise how the track actually is : http://www.nurburgringexplorer.com/..._Guide/Nurburgring_Nordschleife_Schwedenkreuz
Great links man.

I have been having lots of fun with the X2014 standard recently at the Nordschleife.

I don't think any other car has had me flowing so smoothly.

All assists off, abs 0, bog stock settings on RH with 5-10 BB.

As competent as the car is, I'm yet to run a clean fast lap, but it's so much fun it's ridiculous.

In between ring runs im saving for an FGT to abuse.

Gentlemen, I have returned once again.

I have tamed the bull, the LP-640 and managed a 7:18 lap time. It's a really tricky machine, even more so than the Enzo was.

I think I just ran my most aggressive lap around the ring ever. I saw a Youtube video the other day of some old Mercedes touring cars flying over the curbs on two wheels, and it inspired me to try a lap with a bit of corner-cutting. I normally avoid the curbs at the ring altogether, so hurtling through the turns nearly airborne was definitely a new experience for me. S-curves become straight lines; quiet, sweeping turns become all-out battles for grip...

So, just for ****s and giggles I decided to take the CR-X up to eleven and see what I could do with it.

If you've ever wanted to know what a 326 horsepower CR-X could do around the Nordschleife (in GT6) with a moron (me) at the wheel, it's a 7:24.120. There's certainly more to be had if someone who's half-decent at tuning had a go at the car but even with the default settings for the adjustable suspension the thing's an absolute gas.

Basically, I just took Sport Soft tires and then threw every upgrade available at the car, leaving the settings for the LSD and the adjustable suspension at their defaults. Ended up with a 497PP car after an oil change.

The only thing I changed was to auto-set the transmission to 205 mph maximum speed. It'll hit 194 on the Mulsanne straight without chicanes; somewhat less on the 'Ring but the taller gearing helps avoid toasting the front tires on corner exit so I kept it.

I have to say, I rather love this ridiculous little wild mouse I've ended up with. Seriously, this thing is stupid fun.

For what its worth, my obsession drove me so far to actually go and drive it... My obsession turned into something on scale to a religion that re engaged my Return to racing...

So for anyone here that really wants to explore their obsession to the fullest, a visit to the ring is nearly a spiritual journey... One of the few examples in life where every expectation was exceeded far beyond what I could have imagined...

That's really all I have to say...

I have now approx. 300 laps there, what kind of car did you drive ? And I would guess the height difference, camber on some corners was a bit more than you could imagine ;-)

I rented a Clio RS 200 from RSR.

Oh, the education was mind boggling actually... For instance, in the rain, you need to be on the gas in a FF car at the bottom of the Fox hole, when all your instinct begs otherwise.

It's impossibly to replicate elevation on a 2D medium like a game without intense exaggeration. But I was way faster when I returned to games... In fact I needed to real thing to help gel in my head the flow... I never was able to nail it consistently and efficiently before.

I'll go back for sure. I need to look up the instructor I hired, I'm certain you know him as he holds the lap record on a bike...

I stayed at Martins (?) place up near the castle. This was back in 2011 so I need to refresh my memory.

I would say I clocked many many laps around the Ring on GT5, then one day I decided to take on the YellowBird challenge with a small twist. The tyres were Comfort Hards. :scared:
On GT5 my best lap was a 8:30, these days however......

Not much has changed, Except the lap time.
It was done with a DS3 with the standard configuration, No SRF, No TCS, ABS to 1 and only an oil change.

Maybe the instructor was Dave, working with the Rent4ring guys, who also run the Bridge to Gantry website.. he has an account here as well. Don't know the RSR, maybe rent4ring ? or rent-racecar.com ?

These guys, one of the original outfits; http://www.rsrnurburg.com

Not Dave, he isn't a biker :) it was Andy Carlile... Seen here on B2G site ironically :) http://bridgetogantry.com/2/index.p...427-fastest-motorcycle-lap-of-the-ring-really
yes of course... Ron simmons...and I know who Andy is. Dave L. is a biker too, instructor for cars and was very fast on bike there and used to work for RSR. I recommend rent4ring.com or rent-racecar.com Especially rent4ring, very helpful and great in all concerns. :-D

Yeah, rent4ring would be a place I'll check out, I follow all Dave's project builds and his site, he is a likable guy.

Funny story, when I was there I was nailed with a monsoon of a down poor of the likes that usually closes the track... Andy showed me 4 different lines and there were cars and bikes bined at nearly every corner...

Andy was great, he even tricked me into sliding a few times to test me (after he tested my listening skills)... In the end, I asked if I could have been faster... He said "no, before trying to be faster you need to go do 40 laps at half that pace"... I then asked how I compared to others... You know, all normal questions for any guy who was higher than a kite after a perfect first experience... He said "you maxed out 5th gear in those conditions, and you listened very well... we were under 10 min bridge to gantry... " I had no idea what that meant at the time... And when I learned, some days later when already at home... I flipped!

Still to this day, a top memory, and I promptly added it back on my bucket list...

My first visit there was back in 2006 and the year after, I had Andy with me there on lap as a guide. Both Dave L and Brendan "Bren" Keirle was both very fast bikers and behind the steering wheel also ( Brendan : Sliders guesthouse) + Ed (Ed Healey who past away due to cancer, was a fantastic man and a friend!) All of them did some instructor work with RSR, don't know if Andy did ( RSR haven't the best of reputation a nowadays.. just ask Dave, Brendan etc..) Dave L. are with Rent4Ring now, and I will recommend them, Ralph, Friedy and Dave are very helpful ! and no fuzz with them.
Now I am an experienced "Ringer", but still an amateur, but I will start my step up to the RCN series first and then VLN (Langstrecken meisterschaft) during this season, 2014, and if all things goes well, I will be qualified for the next year ADAC N24. I will start with the V3 class Renault Clio RS III, but the team have just bought an Opel Astra Cup too, which will be very competitive, the same with their Porsche Cayman Cup with 390 BHP.
It's quite expensive to race without sponsors, + 1050 km drive + ferry over Skagerak to Denmark makes some extra expenses to the logistics as well.
I have a diesel badger now.. Alfa Romeo SportWagon 159 Ti with just 170 BHP, but the car have fantastic roadholding ability with it's sport suspension and Brembo brakes,, fun ( and a bit scary) to drive that through Schwedenkreuss close to 200 km/h in that estate wagon;-)

You really don't need much power to go fast round there if you know the track. However.. at speed you will "find" bumps which unsettles the car on various corners, exit of corners which you can't feel at amateur speeds.. and usually make cars to crash when newbies find them + a heap of other reasons why drivers crash there.
It's actually safer to race, then drive in the opening hours for tourists on those crazy Sundays. Experienced "Ringers" are at the gates 08:00 to drive the first quiet 2 hours, then we go for lunch, spectate, etc and back in again sometime after 15:00 It usually tend to be quiet after 17:00.
Wet line are all odd lines which you try to find grip where it is... which mean f ex. at Aremberg, you will brake on he right, drive all around the corner on the left, cutting in towards the middle etc...rubber deposit with water makes a good soap ! This you only can learn by driving safely, quietly, laps after laps in the wet..

Scandinavians, especially from Norway, Sweden and Finland ( Finland isn't Scandinavia, but a nordic country) are on the average better drivers just because we are used to catch sudden slide, drift on our winter roads, wet weather etc. than the average continental drivers ;-)
Know your car, have trackday experience, lots of a typical winter driving on slippery surfaces helps.. then you are bit prepared for the "Ring"... don't push laptimes, just have fun and try to learn the "line", where to brake, turn in references etc.
Try also have a pax lap where you look backwards.. just to see how steep up and down the track is. When you drive, you can't notice due to your own concentration how big camber f ex Aremberg have, how steep it is etc.. takes lots of money and time to just be a regular "touristenfahrer". And on top of that, you may be a experienced driver, but the other guy who ram you, take chances can take you out in a crash.. cars and bikers spin out in front of you, just where you planned to brake.. dirt, grass, coolant, oilspill.. all these factors and more comes in to play, despite your own perfect skills... experienced racecar drivers do crash in the ordinary opening hours for tourist.. Just to mention ;-)

Rgds TH ;-)

The Ring is really a must to drive for every motorsport enthusiast ! I also took my car there and it was so WOW! I could recognize the track very good from all my laps in GT. But the whole thing isnt compareable to the game. Every bump you fly over, the G-Forces pulling you to the side and the crazy sense of speed when you fly by the trees. Thats something the game can't reproduce at all. Basically the whole time your body is fighting to keep in your seat from all the jumping on the bumps. I guess my nails were even stuck into the steering wheel so hard I held it to keep in place
I hope Gran Turismo advances to replicate G-Force animation better than now this strange mind dizzing shaking. Thats what definitely missing. Eventhough you see the cars bounce as crazy as in reallife. There is no visual feedback to it.

One more link : "The ideal line concept" / "Das Ideallinie-Konzept" is a perfect gift for those of you who want to study the track through detailed maps, book and video, all in one box. : http://ideallinie-konzept.de/

Edit: They have made the same compendium for Spa-Franchorchamps as well, gonna order that one my self :-)

Two laps around the 24H layout within 1/10th of a second :)

There was traffic on both laps though, so it's more luck than anything else...

And here's some nice side-by-side action:

Has anyone tried to do the 24-minute of Nurburgring in 24 minutes?

I've been trying to do this with the R18. My goal is to do three laps before the timer runs out and limp through last lap at 50mph without any fuel left.

Hi, my names Dave, and I'm a Nurburgring addict :P

It's been 16 MONTHS since I last drove around the hallowed splendor that is the Green Hell in GT :(

However..... I am making a return, and I simply cannot wait!! All being well, I should have my new PS3, and GT6 next weekend, or Monday/Tuesday at the very latest.

There hasn't been a day go by when I haven't thought about the 'Ring, watched YouTube video's of the 24hr races, or even production cars doing their fastest laps! I know the track like the back of my hand (just need to learn most of the actual names) and had just started to REALLY love the fast flowing section after leaving the Caroussel running all the way to Dottingher Hoe.

My friends know how much I love the Nurburgring, probably a little bit too much haha, can be quite annoying for them, but it is the 'Ring after all!!

Anyway, it's nice to know I am not alone with this addiction! Already having sleepless nights on the run up to getting back out there, and doing many more laps (must be close to 2000 laps in GT5 alone......)

You will not be disappointed.

Although I've never been, I'd say it's an excellent representation. Much better sense of elevation changes and bumpy sections etc.

I haven't had the privelage of going there for real.... yet! But I intend to some day, eventually with something stripped, caged, and tuned a bit, but that might not happen for another 5 to 10 years.... who knows?

So far, GT is as close as I can get to the real thing, and I can't wait to get back to running round in slightly modified hot hatches, and the odd super car/race car :D

I have emerged once again from the depths of Der Nurburgring with a new lap and my first ever Supercar X class machine.

Ferrari FXX: 6:49.612

Fastest SH time I've ever recorded.

Hundreds of times.
My best up to this moment was getting at Schwalbenschwanz when the countdown went to zero. That was with the R10 btw.
Most of the time I go really slow in the second lap, to save tires and waiting for the track to dry as much as possible, in order to set a fast last lap. I keep track of these times.
Just love this race.
Bugs: no spray, even at 100% wet and the trees looking really bad at night...
Some cars need to pit for fuel.

Best so far at the 24' : Audi R10 TDi '06 on race hard (restricted to 650 PP), at night, in the rain:
7'57" (only ABS1)

Ferrari Enzo Ferrari (Supercar B): 7:07.6
Well done:lol: I found the Enzo on Sports Hards quite fun at the 'Ring. Still slight understeer, but not the plowing tractor it was in GT5. Now it's more of a "hold on for dear life" kind of ride:lol:

Try the Zonda C12 and the 7.3. Shift early to keep it in the peak of the power band. The 7.3 was 12/1000ths faster than the Enzo for me at the 'Ring but a completely different feel.
