Yeah, I will retract my previous statement mate. The Carbon Fibre has great contrast with the screen as Christiaan said.
But perhaps a combination of the both? Maybe behind the wheel just aluminum?

I decided to go for carbon fiber look only, Mark :)

Logiforce's idea about cutting the edge is nice, but it will very hard to cut it out precisely.

I have also made further plans for the dashboard, which will be easier to do when it's carbon fiber only.

Yeah, I was thinking that the cutting would be difficult. I'm sure what you have planned will look great as always Henk! Looking forward to seeing the finished results.

New edition to my race sim is a rally style handbrake :D

The orgininal handbrake was a bit smaller than i imagined

So i made some modifications :

A longer and thicker rod (now adjustable) and a blue grip handel

The handbrake frame even has the same checkerplate base with isolators like the seat frame.

This ways it levels perfectly with the seatframe and is very easy to mount / detach with just two handscrews.

Ofcourse it's also fully adjustable back and forward.

That lever is indeed small. 50cm tops?

Looks nice though. Am still jealous about your 80/20. It's handy for additions like this. ;)

Yes Christiaan.

The orgininal lever was exactly 50cm tall and 20mm wide. Now i have extended it and i have a standard length of 65cm, but i can extend that to almost a full meter.

Thought so. Most hydraulic handbrakes I have seen were 30 or 50 cm in length. The thing is that handbrakes are mounted onto the tunnel (or whatever it is called) in the center of the car making it almost level with the seat, while you mount it directly onto the floor. So now I fully understand why you need the extra length and it seems a bit short. ;)

You did a nice job on the handle btw. Seems comfy alright. :)

Maybe you should rotate the base outwards a little, not keep it parallel with a seat. At least rally cars seem to have it rotated a bit, probably more comfortable or better to pull.

There are different reasons for this. One of them is the fact that a verticle stick would get in the way of grabbing the (sequential or H) shifter lever. So rotating it outward makes it easier to grab.
Rotating it outward can also be better for comfort. Just swing your underarm outwards and act like you're grabbing a stick. You'll notice that this comfort will be very much dependent also upon the distance to the seat. The further away from the seat, the higher the increase in degrees of outward rotation for the handbrake (measured from the seat).

Thanks guys, but I'm pretty comfortable as it is :)

I do not have or intend to buy a seperate sequential shifter. Moving the handbrake at an angle to right would put too close to my ipad dashboard.

Henk, very clever the way you implemented the forward/back adjustability for the brake!
Not to mention the brake and platform as well! 👍 👍

I am assuming from the pictures that you drilled straight through the profile under the brake and ran 2 thumbscrews through that to 2 t-nuts in the outer channel of the seats' base? :sly:

Now you have me wanting an e-brake bad! :dopey:

Thanks Steve

The handbrake adds another dimension.:)
It mounted exactly like you said, very easy to dismount when im' not using it.

It just simply feels funny having a rally style handbrake in the corner of your eye if your driving an F1 car with a formula wheel.:D

Here are some WIP of the new Dashboard.

I used the DSD 32 board from the velocity, bought some additional buttons online and integrated the ipodholder in the dashboard.

Still waiting for some covered illuminated toggle switchtes which will take a couple of weeks :grumpy:

I also have some additional plans for the dashboard on the righthand side.

The wheelbase and rims were always lying around somewhere in the closet. I decided to make a dedicated "wheel shelf".

So this weekend i cleared out the closet and gave the shelf in a "Clubsport upgrade" :)

Still working on a bracket which on which i can put either the BMW or Formula rim when i'm not using it.

A dedicated space even with logo and all?! Makes me wonder where you're going to stop. lol

Now what if a new rim is released or the H-shifter. Got room for that already?

I have to say I'm a bit jealous though. In other words, I think you did a damn good job with your setup. :)

Very good mate.
Funny I spent the weekend building a shelve myself lol But it's not finished to this standard. It will need a bit more sanding and painting before it's picture ready :-)

Damn you guys, getting on with your setups n making things.
Well I made a dinner at the weekend, so their ya go! :sly:

Very nice attention to detail, as usual! :)
Decal adds a very nice touch as well. 👍

Where is the iPad panel?
Does that detach from the right side?

Yes Steve, the Ipad panal is combined with the keyboard tray and detaches from the right side. Otherwise the whole dashboard would get too big to handle. I have it hanging on the ceiling in the closet, since it's almost a meter long and i ran out of shelf space.

This is a special request of my pal MrLatte: :) LOL :)

You can do great things with an ipad:

You can turn it into a microwave

dsc03233wd.jpg

Or into a nice cold fridge

dsc03247i.jpg

The possibilities are endless :) LOL :)

For all the simvibe supported games you can also create your own button box, so this is something i'm working on.

simvibedashboard.jpg

Besides the fridge and microwave, you also see my two other modifications:

- The ability to move the ipod display from the wheel to the left side on top of the buttonbox
- A carbon fiber mouse/remote tray which lies in the top drawer on the left.

Still waiting on those switches to compelete the dash.:nervous:

That looks great Henk, to be honest I like the look of real analog gauges. I have an iPad ATM and I run iHud with it. I bought one of those cool RAM mounts and it's mounted just above my 7" Liliput.

I am waiting for SimProjects to release their new rev burner that can operate like 8 gauges. Then I will remove the iPad for good. Don't get me wrong Henk, your rig rocks and every time I look at it you have done a major improvement. Kudos Sir. :gtpflag:

This is a really classy touch 👍

Thanks for the compliments guys :)

Yesterday i finally got illuminated covered toggle switches and managed to finish the left side of my dashboard.

I'm still working on a "removable button box" which will fit exactly in the ipad frame on the right hand side.

This gives me the option to replace the ipad with the button box for sims in which you can't use the ipad or when some else in the family is using the ipad.

  Is that a new addition I see above the left side button box/dashboard?
Is that a cell phone in there? This just keeps getting better and better!

Very nice touch with the removable button box within the dashboard frame!
Thats a damn good idea, I think you are the first I have seen to do that! 👍 👍
Modular boxes within a dashboard! I really like that!

How will you handle the wiring for the change outs?
I am assuming a USB hub or female jack?

Nice surprise with the changeable ipad button box. Looks great with the illuminated switches!

Thanks Mark :)

I have a USB hub on my CSW deskmount and i have also moved all connections from the back of the wheel to the side. This gives me MUCH better access to plug and unplug everthing. (Mark kwows what i mean )

dsc03315r.jpg

The diplay on the left is an ipod, i use it often as a clock but also as a dashboard with simvibe and ihud.
I can mount it on the left side or behind the wheel.

dsc03148al.jpg

The idea of the "removable button box"came to when i was racing and one of the kids was using the ipad.

There i was staring at an empty frame.:grumpy:

At first i thought about making only a carbon fiber plate to cover the hole. That eventually evolved in a removable button box. It's not entirely finished yet, but i have got the idea all worked out. I have the buttons installed and i'm waiting for my DSD32 board
