Motegi NASCAR

Aero: 50/70
LSD: 60/60/44
Suspension:
Height:15/10
Spring:18.0/13.5
Dampers and roll bars 5/6 all
Camber: 0.0/0.0
Toe: (negative) 0.40/0.60 L
Tranny
First set top speed to 242. 1st through 3rd all the way o
down,4th all the way up. Set top speed to 215.

Not a tire wear setup, and if on controller turn the sensitivity up to 7. Your welcome :)

A toe angle of -.40/+0.03 is very helpful for tire wear when I tested.

Too much toe, like in the setup above, will kill your frontstretch and backstretch speed. You just gotta find the fine line between tire wear and speed down the straights.

Just going to throw this out there. The top 10 fastest guys I have seen at motegi run at least -.40 toe in the front and rear.

What were their online solo lap times? My best so far is 29.285. That was done online, solo run, tire wear/fuel consumption off, grip set to real on racing softs. -08 on front and -03 on the rear. I tried it with those extreme toe settings and my lap times were noticeably slower. Driving line, your skill set, and gearing all play an important part to quick lap times on Motegi. You could set your trans and LSD settings to make up for the tire scrub down the straits due to those extreme toe settings I suppose. I just prefer not to go to extremes I guess. To each their own, whatever works best for them. Another reason I don't like extreme tire settings is because you can't adjust each wheel separately. Whatever setting you use, its going to be the same on the other wheel, which completely wrong for oval racing.

No tire wear I can run consistant 29.1xx, 29.159 is the quickest that I remember. With tire wear a 29.449 is the quickest but usually I run a couple 29.5's then fall to high 29's for a couple more laps then to the 30's.

Nice lap times. Like I said, alot has to do with the driving line you use. I really haven't spent much time on Motegi so maybe could do better, who knows. Kinda got out of the whole NASCAR scene and started concentrating on improving my circuit skills with other cars doing the TT's and other track attack events. Kinda got burnt out with NASCAR in this game as thats all I did for the first 16 months or so of this game. Plus, I hate the inability of this game to properly set up your car for oval racing. Just waiting for the new NASCAR game to come out. Hopefully its better than last years, lol.

I would expect that tuning with tire wear would be different than tuning without tire wear, given the enhanced grip and stability that running without tire wear provides. That could be part of the reason for the extreme differences in toe settings.

From my tests I only lose about 1 or 2 mph down a straight which is nothing is nothing compared to what you lose in the corners without the toe. I find my car really tight without the toe but I am also on a controller and not a wheel. If you have a good tire wear setup then you are going to be fast with no tire wear. The straights are so short that you don't even need to change the trannsmission between tire wear and no tire wear. To me I don't think there is a difference in setup but this is coming from a guy who runs mostly tire wear rooms and goes to no tire wear rooms for some relaxation. Still place top 5 at least in every no tire wear race.

Tried out jakes setup (HERE) A bit loose, but it's really a good setup. My Rear spring rate is between the recommended 16.0, 16.5 (Mine 16.3). Achieved a time of 29.298 :D

No one else seems to be having that issue with the tune. So logically I can only assume it's not an issue with the tune and must be caused by an alternative source. Maybe... oil on the track or something. I can't think of anything else that might be at fault.

There could have been crosswinds blowing as he entered turn 3. That will do it every time.

I can :D, or perhaps it could be the driving style? :dopey:

:idea:If you are turning your tires red then your obviously exceeding your tires limits, meaning your over-driving your car and asking your tires to do the impossible. Try backing your corners up a little more and not driving so deep into the corners which will help your entry. Slow in - Fast out .

I was testing lastnight and found with Jake's setup if you adjust the toe both front and rear to -.65 the left tires wear way more than the passengers side. With that thoe I kinda lost some straight away speed.so keep up with the draft and it shouldn't be to bad it makes up for it.

It appears that someone it catching on to the whole motegi setup!

Are you guys using the fancy pants tire telemetry thing PD added a while back? Reading these posts, it appears it may be useful for tuners here.

Welcome to pages 1 and 2... Glad you could join us. :dunce:

Yea, I always use it when tuning my cars. Its a very valuable tuning tool as far as I'm concerned.

Can someone help me out with a tire wear setup? I can only get 7 laps on softs if I'm careful! My setup for no tire wear is fine but most rooms run tire wear.
