NASCAR Expansion Discussion

I'm not big into NASCAR, though I don't hate it. I don't mind it once in a while but it's not really my thing, mainly just because I don't care for ovals. If the Sprint Cup series suddenly became all road course races, and not the short versions that they run at Watkins Glen and Sonoma but the full circuits, I'd definitely watch. However, I've actually been wanting NASCAR, or at least generic NASCAR-like stock cars as we had in 3 and 4, since 2013 when 5 had nothing of the sort and again with 6. I've tried building cars with NASCAR-like specs, but everything that remotely looked like a Sprint Cup car was either way too light or the rest of its specs were nowhere near where they needed to be.

In a way, I feel like I'm going to be cheated a bit with this DLC, as we're officially getting twenty-four cars but I expect them to be different liveries on the same three cars, so really I'm paying $20 for a track and three 2016 stock cars with a couple dozen liveries. Heck, thanks to the livery editor, we can make the rest of the field, past liveries, and even Cole Trickle and Ricky Bobby.

I'm actually largely interested in the game tweaks. I'm interested in that feature that indicates nearby cars, since I play in cockpit view and have huge blind spots.

I can understand and respect that perspective. All these DLCs are low effort affairs for $20. They try to give the impression of value but scratch the surface and its not there. You're right... its basically 3 models and a track and its variations. Porsche was the same wasnt it? A handful of new models and 17 recycled FM4/5 models and one track and variations.

I can especially see how terrible it is if you pay retail for them from our neck of the woods.

Here's a game thats $80-90 even now and they want $40 for the car pass and then $26 each for porsche and nascar and $26 for vip if you are dumb enough to fall into that trap knowing what you should know now. (Sorry our currency sucks - thank god I pay in roubles).

But apparently GT6 is the scummy model what with its 3 tokens packs.

Its a free market and you have all the tools to work out whether its worth your money. For $26 its questionable to me. For $13 in russian money its probably ok.

With this pack, from 567 cars in the game, we'd have 591 cars already (adding the 24 new proposed NASCAR vehicles). Just a few more months then we'd have around 600 cars, with around 28 environments and around 110-120 tracks.

I mean, just imagine driving with the NASCAR vehicles online or with these pesky little Drivatars, everything is going to feel like you're in a zoo!!! Basically in Forza with the Drivatar concept, you're either in a violent stock car race or in a game of bumper cars on a theme park already re-adjusted into a real race track.

I've said this before... the single make races are... rambunctious. I expect the career nascar races will be pandemonium. Maybe turn off aggression?

Actually my personality is that I want to pay to see how ridiculous its going to be. It will be. I dont expect they will tweak the AI to suit a single DLC that they arent betting their reputation on.

Around Watkins Glen I expect things will be relatively civilised but the higher speed tracks will be comedy.

They know these things sell only to the very die-hard fans, but the licensing might actually cost them a small fortune, who knows how much they've paid EA and NASCAR for the licenses and if they turn a profit at all or do it at a loss. Yes, 20 bucks for an expansion is not cheap, but you can always wait for a sale or simply not buy it and wait for FM7 to have it from the start. That's my outlook at least, and yes we are lucky here in Russia to have MS not crank up the prices according to exchange rates. It still seems like a steal to me considering something like iRacing is charging $30 for Nurburgring alone.

Multiplayer is already Bumper Cars though :(

Fess up, how many of us are going to get it for the inevitable liveries...

What are we reckoning on the price for this? I would expect it to cost a bit more than a car pack, but it doesn't offer the same value as, say, the Porsche expansion. Well not for me personally anyway :)

Probably around $20 again since it's probably going to be a similar story like the Porsche expansion with all the cars, the new track and a bespoke career mode, though the career one is pretty unlikely.

The single-make (and speaking more generally, the Exhibition) races don't use the statistically-generated Drivatars that you'll meet in Career and Free Play mode, but either old-fashioned AIs or Drivatars generated from a local data pool. I've been trying some Free Play races on Daytona with V8SCs, and it appears that the Drivatars know how to race in a tight formation on ovals (although they are a bit too prudent with overtakes, perhaps?).

I would prefer a Touring Car Expansion personally.

Adding more BTCC, WTCC, TCR, STCC heck even DTM vehicles.

Maybe add Donington Park to it.

But that's just me.

I was really hoping the focus on IMSA and Group 5 shortly after release would lead to more additions from those two. :(

I remember NASCAR vehicles being really fun on regular race tracks in GT5. So I'm curious about this, but will see what the full pack entails before putting money aside.

This^^^

Globally we are much more interested in a mashed up touring car pack with all the classes the English Germans Swedish Japanese etc. all enjoy. Even the Italian V8 series?

I suppose they think that there's a good smattering of these classes in the game already.

I'll have to wait and see about getting this expansion.

Not a massive fan of NASCAR. I just want the new track, a new location to drive all of the cars is always fresh.

I'm hoping the improved drafting physics and rolling starts aren't exclusive to the expansion though.

I hope no one actually expects another series themed expansion after this one...

NASCAR has been a lost property for Forza forever. I know FM3 and 4 had those stock cars, but those were lame. Real Nascars have been wanted by a pretty vocal crowd for a while now and it is definitely going to serve them well. Also, from a business perspective, NASCAR is the best series for a racing game to partner with, other than Formula 1. With an amount of viewers that NASCAR has, many will be interested by this partnership and will pick up Forza for it if they already haven't got it. I'd be very surprised if Turn 10 didn't many more game sales on the back of this expansion.

Am amount of viewers mostly in one continent is hardly the best basis for an expansion from a business point of view.

50% of Forza's sales come from the United States (30% from UK), I was told this directly from a Turn 10 employee.

Is the Doge cars are not made in the first few days I'll burn my Xbox. Those two would be the most popular cars out there in the 'internet' space.

About the 80% US/UK sales split. That tells you EVERYTHING you need to know. If I was Turn10 I'd be attacking Nascar, American Indycar and BTCC in that order. Everyone else wouldnt get a look in.

Anyway, back on topic from...that.

At first I was skeptical about this expansion, really unsure if I'd be buying it. Recently I've been watching NASCAR races, and now I'm very excited! Racing at 200 MPH around Daytona being only a few inches from each other sounds great! It'll be very difficult to learn, but it should prove to be a great challenge.

If it is just the Sprint cup cars we get, then I'm fine with that. However, it'd be nice to have the Xfinity cars and the Trucks for some variety. We'll find out tomorrow!

I find it weird how they still haven't announced it on their main homepage on their website. I mean, you might as well just spill the beans, since we know it's coming.
