The GT5 Nascar sound is missing the transmission whine heard at E3. Not sure why though, must be test builds

Wait till you hear the blips just off idle, it sounds immense!

I'm not sure NASCAR COTs have that generic gearwhine. None of the real life onboards I've heard have that whine at all, even shifting through the gears.

That's because they use crappy low sensitivity camera mics, and usually very distorted

Small snippet of the G4TV E3 live stream Nascar. Action kicks in at 2:40, sound is not in sync though. Pretty loud gear box whine. Quality is pretty crappy, compressed twice, but it gives you an idea

You can also hear snippets of the car driving by in the menus.
And standard physics, R2 tyres with traction control at 5

My fixed up audio version of Alba's Nascar vid. Heavily distorted, but no gear whine

Here's Supercar Challenge. I specially like the sound while he's off throttle...
I guess ill call it 'gear chatter' for a lack of a better term. The gear whine has
a higher note since most touring cars like these have straight cut gears:

Meanwhile, here's Marcos Ambrose changing gears at Sears Point:

Too bad he lost the race because of that miscue. Anyway, I'm sure if he got
better equipment he'd win a race at an oval. Oval racing is more equipment
than skill IMO. I wish he joined Stewart-Haas (Hendrick backed) rather than
Petty Motorsports. I'm rootin for him nonethelesss :)

The gear whine in Supercar Challange is just a complete sample loop recording, it isn't modelled transmission whine. It doesn't match the engine speed. SimBin's GT-R series does it like that as well with canned gear whine

Isn't the first video Late models, not COTs?

Equipment is important at the highest level of any motorsport. Having the most skill hardly ever wins anyone a race at the top levels. If it were all about skill Ben Spies and Valentino Rossi should be finishing on the podium almost every week in Moto GP. Hamilton and Alonso should be dominating F1.

RPM is better equipment then the team he is on now. If he can turn in top 5 performances on ovals with RPM equipment like Kasey Kahne is then the top teams may give him a look, like they did Kahne.

I'm only talking specifically to NASCAR. We all know how equipment plays a major role in F1, look at what happened to Button in just one year - nobody to a Champion. Going back, if NASCAR's whole schedule are all Road Courses, im pretty sure Ambrose will be up there, if not, possibly leading in the points. Please name one driver in the Top 12 of the Chase that is only a "Single Car/One Team Operation" I'm pretty sure there are none.

But yeah, RPM is much better than where he's coming from.

Anyway, this is what i think the standings might look like IMO (if it were all Road Courses :D)

1) Stewart
2) Ambrose
3) J Gordon
4) Montoya
5) Harvick
6) Ky Busch
7) Martin
8) R Gordon
9) Kahne
10) Johnson
11) Menard
12) Allmendigner

I'm such a closet NASCAR fan :dopey:

The developer who made that Supercar game are making a new NASCAR game: http://www.virtualr.net/new-nascar-title-coming-from-eutechnyx/ 👍

So far we have these ovals and road courses than will or will possibly appear in GT5 for the NASCAR championship there:

Daytona Speedway
Infineon Raceway
Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Test Course (I know it's going to be there)
Autodromo Nazionale di Monza - Oval (could get included)
Twin Ring Motegi - Superspeedway
Fuji Speedway - '60s layout (could get included)

I think two more short ovals, two more intermediate ovals and one more USA road course (Watkins Glen?) would complete the series in the game, which surely won't need to have all the 30+ races. What do you think?

Sorry but Fuji's 60's layout and Monza's oval can't be recreated to PD's standards. Fuji's entry onto the banked corner was already replace for a gravel track when PD got there and Monza has a grandstand in the last/first corner and a barrier over the first/last (ccw/cw) .

There's plenty of historic footage available for reference and original track schematics could also be used. Being 100% accurate is not a necessity as we're speaking of defunct tracks/layouts anyway, but would still be great to drive on since there are not safety constraints in the game (main reason why most old tracks get disbanded or extensively modified over time in real life).

Sorry, but "PD's standards don't allow that" just seems an excuse or very convenient explanation for not including them to me. Besides, there already are several tracks based on existing locations or cities made by them that in many places are not very accurate (if at all), so such standards must not be very consistent.

They have to at least include the Monza Oval in my opinion. Where else you can find 38+ degrees banked curves?

Also it's not that it's currently totally abandoned. Some occasional parades of historical cars are still done. No racing though.

The Monza oval wouldn't work as a NASCAR oval track as the straights don't connect.

Would still be a blast though.

they went back to the spoiler because the cars were comingoff the ground during some collisions.

This answered a question for me, at least in GT5P. When I raced Daytona, I always raced with maximum wing, because I believed that it made it harder for the other cars to ram me off the track. It didn't work too well against PIT manoeuvres, but against regular side-banging, it worked a treat. 👍

Which of the cars in GT5 prologue would most closely resemble a NASCAR car in terms of performance?

I seriously can't think of any car in Prologue which resembles anything even close to the experience a NASCAR car will offer, comparing performance figures is probably irrelevant as NASCAR cars are an entirely different beast to anything Prologue is offering ( whether you like NASCAR or not ).

NASCAR races in career mode should be held at American tracks only. Don't even ask why.

In a game that isn't solely focused on it and with not really enough American tracks to do it(hell, only two of them are ovals), I'm not so sure thats even possible. Besides, its not as if there hasn't been a non american track raced by NASCAR before and funny enough, not Montreal nor Mexico were the first:

And those weren't the first either.

And the Ozies even made their own version.

NASCAR [insert sponsor here] cup never ran a race outside the USA that paid points for the cup itself, only the NASCAR [insert another sponsor here] series has had points paying rounds abroad. Furthermore NASCAR sanctions series in Mexico and Canada. That doesn't change the fact that it's impossible to get a good NASCAR series in the game without, although unrealistically, races on tracks that in real life aren't found in the USA. Why'd you even just want two ovals on that schedule?

We will likely have Infineon Raceway, but yeah, I know it's not enough, which is also why it's odd they have the license. It's the same with WRC. Why would they want to claim the WRC license if there are no WRC stages? PD make no sense sometimes.

I'm just saying that it should be all american, although it probably won't.

So I played the gt5 demo at best buy yesterday and did a fair amount of time doing nascar races in indy. I was a little disappointed. The AI took the wrong line and was desperately slow. I never play gt with a controller I have had a wheel since gt2, but I spanked them even on the hardest difficulty on pro physics and no tcs or driving line as I havw spent enough time through the years racing at indy. I hope for the demos sake that it is just a demo, and that they will be harder when it is released because I pulled away by 2 seconds a lap once I got in the lead in turn 1 of lap 2 and that would not happen in real life.
