Did the NASCAR car tend to drift to the left on a straight line with the wheel in neutral position?
No, I don't remember having to countersteer on the straights. Maybe the person who tuned the car for this demo didn't realize that on an oval the wheels should be tuned individually, if that is even possible in GT5.

Judging from the lack of NASCAR vids from GamesCom, I'm guessing the rest of the world doesn't care about NASCAR in GT5 bar a few motorsport faithful. Don't you dare hog my premium spots NASCAR!

Or maybe there wasn't NASCAR cars available to drive there. Whatever, I'm sticking with it.
Look a few posts up, NASCAR cars are in the demo.

Actually depending on the toe, camber, caster, you might have a slight pull to the left on the straights.

Also, does depend on setup entirely.

As for a Nascar series in the works.. This is very true. We are very far in the planning process. The next steps will be to implement the infrastructure of the series. Which has been difficult, since we do not have all of the information we need to make definite answers.

Right now, we are looking at 3-4 series, made up of 3 tiers. Which none of this is 100%. But with the man power we have ATM, this seems most realistic. If there were interested parties out there, that were ready to take on a race group as an administrator, please feel free to PM me, Earth or RACECAR. If we had more help, it would be possible expand the series.

However, it all depends on what we get on the game.

-IF we are able to have more than 16 racers in a single race, we might be able to reduce the series down to just 3. Again this all depends. So, as we all know, we are still waiting for 100% confirmed information. Nothing is set in stone.

-Food for thought..we will be conducting tire tests a few weeks after GT5 is released. Those of you who are interested can help us gather the information we need to setup the full time series.

So, I am glad to see so much interest in Nascar on GT5. Stay tuned.

Someone asked me if there are any Chargers (Dodge) in the game and none of the screens have confirmed it. Did PD not get the license?

Unfortunately yes. It comes mainly from lack of knowledge of the sport. People think it's just drivers turning left and there is no skill involved. They have no clue how wrong they are.

They have the license to Dodge, but that doesn't mean they can include Dodge's NASCAR cars because for that to happen, a Dodge team (like Penske) has to sign on with Sony.

So far, Hendrick Motorsprts (Chevy), Gibbs (Toyota), Ganasi (Chevy), MWR (Toyota), and Roush (Ford) have signed on to allow the showing of their team cars in GT5. Sadly, no teams that have Dodges have signed on yet.

I want the Blue Duece! And the the Blue Doce. Maybe the shell penzoil 22.

Will PD allow primary alcoholic sponsors (like on the blue deuce?). Anyway, I'd like to see the #77 Mobil 1 Dodge of Sam Hornish Jr.

I hope so. Also Mobil is moving to the 14 car for next year so maybe you'll get the mobil livery for Stewart in an update.

RBR has also signed up, but there isn't going to be much if the max field size is 16 (then again, its not a NASCAR only game). I just hope that there is a NASCAR Championship in the game.

Hey, I'll be racing NASCAR in GT5, I don't know nothing about the sport, but I like the idea of it. 👍

ONLINE circle racing is suprisingly fun!

I would do that sometimes to relax while playing NFS shift, but I could only imagine it on GT5 going three cars wide trying to take the better line. It's gunna be badass/intense.

Just wanted to add: some people who hate ovals seem to overlook that several of them also have road course variants. Yes, they're mostly flat and tend to "feel" somewhat similar one between each other, but it's still a bonus for those who prefer to drive on more traditional layouts. Some examples for those who didn't know:

are there any confirmed/speculated tracks out of those?

So true.
All the skeptics should be taken to a cup race at Lowes (Charlotte) where they are hitting 190mph average speed. Thats just a few mph less than Daytona and Talladega. Its truly incredible to watch them drive those cars on a mile and a half track door to door at those speeds.
Thats why there are so many mile and a half tracks.

The only confirmed ones are only Daytona Speedway and Indianapolis Motor Speedway and in GT5P/public demos both have had their road and oval variants.

The other ones are merely examples with road courses that I took as example. Anyhow, I suspect that Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Pikes Peak International Raceway and Texas Motor Speedway might have some more chances than others to appear as PD seem to have visited those locations. I don't know about other ones (they however just have to insert at least Talladega and Bristol in my opinion).
I doubt that PD have acquired NASCAR licenses just for two (so far confirmed) oval tracks, but we'll see in the final version.

Its a bit concerning to me that without 4 point tuning on stock cars we won't be able to stop the right front or right rear from wearing much quicker then the other tires. Your throwing 3400lb cars around a corner at 170mph if you cant set them up to take these corners with all 4 tires handling the load equally your going to tear one of the four tires up very quickly which is going to lead to one tire looking bright red on your HUD while the others are just turning yellow. And without tire tempature readouts it will take alot of long runs to see which tires are handling too much of the load as you will have to wait and see which turns yellow/red the fastest.

It should be noted that alot of the races held on these tracks aren't nobody/slow cars but some of the fastest prototypes in the world. Heres a few well known ovals with infield roadcourses you did not mention,

Group B/C? cars racing around the Charlotte Road course

Texas Motorspeedway, which Kaz visited a couple of years ago and took alot of pictures so it may get in, also has a FIA approved road course. The ALMS even ran there a few years ago, the Audi R8 and BMW V12 LMR battling it out on the high banks

Bikes at the california motorspeedway roadcourse. Superbike races there but there isnt any good footage

And they've raced everything at the Daytona roadcourse, Group C, LMP1, motorcycles, indycars, everything

I'm not very happy with them though. Almost all of the schedule being represented by near clones isn't very good for the diversity and challenge. Ok, in NASCAR the variety among the ovals is still pretty good but still, some unique ovals have been demolised or degraded because these were built. Look at what that has made of the Indycar series: in 1993 (considered the best season among many) there were 6 ovals on CART's schedule. Most were shorttracks but at the time you just didn't have many speedways and superspeedways. The long tracks not on the schedule were like Darlington, Daytona and Talladega and and only Darlington was safe. Today though there are 8 ovals on the IRL's schedule of which only three not 1.5 milers. Of all the ovals of 1993 only one, soon to be two, is on the schedule. Two others have gone, only one can still be saved.

There's nothing bad with these 1.5 milers but I think it's gone a bit too far.

For Cup and Nationwide it is optimum from the spectator standpoint and of course ticket sales are an absolute priority for such an expensive endeavor.
There aren't many Mavericks out there with the kind of money it takes to build something different and hope it succeeds.
It does make for much less variety.
However, the too many "cookie cutter tracks" complaint will effect a change to more variety in the future I hope.

With the amount of tracks available now and no way to expand the schedule, I think the Cup Series needs to split into two conferences like the NFL. Although, I'm sure this would be met with extreme resistance. But they could utilize so many more tracks with a race in two different regions at once and a playoff style chase at the end.

After watching this video I don't see how anyone can say NASCAR is easy.

This is really intense I hope to see this type of stuff in GT5

I actually have had a lot of fun in forza racing the oval track with the stock cars. If you are on equal skills levels it can be very challenging and fun. Cant wait for 16 player online races that is going to be really fun.

I think its going too rock! I hope they add in some classic 70's NASCAR car's *cough #43 Superbird *cough... That would be even MORE awesome than it already is.. Iv'e always wondered why they never made a "Nascar '71" Or something like that.

I wish the cars would sound more like these (iRacing):

The transitions from gear to gear is the only thing i hear that's way off. Like most racing games,
it just sounds like there's no clutch at all. Same goes from the GT version below:

You only use the clutch in NASCAR while exiting the pits.

Iracing does sound better though.

You mean you wished the GT5 sounds were more like iRacing's or something else? Just confused abit.

Well since this is a NASCAR thread, i meant I wish the GT NASCAR's sounds more like iRacing's...

Heck, i wish all the GT cars to sound better. We all do.

Im liking the GT5 cockpit view over iRacing's. iRacing looks like the eye level of someone who is the height of Jeff Gordon, GT5 looks like the eye level of someone who is 6' or taller. I've noticed the cockpit view eye level has gone up since GT5P which is great

But you know after looking at the two vids again and switching between each quickly I think the real difference is iRacing's sound has an extra layer to it. Its not much but it adds to the immersion. I dont know if its transmission whine or what but its more then just the engine gaining RPM

The GT5 car sounded really good from 3rd person. I want to hear a 200 mph pass by in GT5 before I make a final judgement on it's NASCAR sounds

Its been said before, but GT5 will have 1,000 cars. iRacing has 25.

Ah, makes since now. I don't why, but I strangely like GT5's sound better. Its not yet close to the Real life sound(though its leaps and bounds better without that overpowering gearwhine), but maybe because it sounds closer to the COY, which I prefer by far over the current COT's exaust sounds. It just seems abit more lively to me.

Well, i guess it's all personal preference. Some racers like their eyes just level with the steering wheel, i used to go with this guy on track days (drives an EvoX), if you see him drive by you'll think a midget is driving behind the wheel! I personally like riding really low but not as exaggerated as he was.

Yah, it's missing that distinct gear whine all throughout.

And oh, don't get me wrong, i never said i prefer iRacing over GT, i'm just talking about the sound. Still though, iRacing can hold its own in terms of physics and online play :) i just hate the expensiveness of it all :(
