He's also using soft racing tyres. AKA Qualifying tyres
Harder compounds will make more like real life

Depends how soft the GT5 soft tire is right? There are no qualifying tires in NASCAR. All the tires Goodyear brings to the track for a weekend are the same compound.

Also a harder tire compound isn't going to magically make the car lose about 300 HP. The acceleration was way way too fast in that video.

I know... I hoped for tweakable tire pressure (and advanced tire pressure modeling/simulation), detailed tire temperature (in/center/out) data, 4 point asymmetric tuning and advanced telemetry too, but unfortunately they didn't make it for GT5 :(

See there's the problem with GT5 and why I don't think its a sim. Primitive tire model. The tire model is THE MOST important part of the sim. Its the only part of the car touching the road under normal conditions.

According to what Amar212 has told us, the physics with all assists off give us the professional physics feel between GT TT and GT5P. We will have to play around to make it as real as possible.

For $60 it's the best driving simulator.

Lol. I can get the whole GTR series for $60 and its worlds better than GT physics. GTR isn't even in the upper echelon of sims yet is tears GT a new one when it comes to actual driving, but I'm sure you'll pull the 1000 cars argument out.

Since the release day is fast approaching (biggest lie of the year )I think I'm gonna just give my realistic view of this:

Clearly the pit options weren't quite Nascar specific, but I'm not worried. I'll perhaps be told I'm not a real Nascar fan because I'm not mad at how its not perfect, but I honestly wasn't expecting it to be spot on since it wasn't a full license. Granted so far we don't see a perfect Nascar portion(which last I checked wasn't promised to be perfect) but whilst I liked the idea of having it on GT, I never expected PD were going to do it perfect. I just hoped it was gonna be decent and fun and what I see at the moment tells me I'm going to have a far better time racing a less then steller representation here then the honestly poor representation I got from EA. I'll be able to race at a bumpy Daytona track, not a boring, silky smooth one. Sure its 16 instead of 43 but even after playing the Best buy (not representive of the retail game), I had a far more fun time racing Toyotas and Chevys and Fords, not a entire field of boring generics that are only have paint decals to seperate them. Here's an example of where even as a guy who isn't the best with setups, I saw a big diffence in feeling on the cars. As already noticed, the pit-stop options obviously aren't stock car friendly as they were on 09 with all the options for Wedge, trackbar, tape & tires but even with all that, it was really terrible at response to a setup change as I alot of times barely noticed the difference and keep in mind, that was with a full NASCAR license on a finished (or should I say, unfinished) game. The best buy demo of GT5 though (even though it was not during the race), I was actually able to mess around and immediately notice if I was going the wrong way or if I was getting it right.

So in short even if it wasn't in the right way, I already found GT5's NASCAR portion way more enjoyable then a full on licensed console game. Whether that changes with NASCAR 2011 is anyone's guess (though many seem to already predict it to be a flop), but I'm loving what I see at the moment. Ok so it needs some work even I admit, but already got me excited to actually play it in spite of all flaws, quite the complete opposite with 09.

GT5 isnt even out yet.

GT5 isnt even out yet.

Doesn't matter. Enough can be learned from people who have leaked copies and the videos. They don't even let you adjust tire pressure...meaning the tire model must be beyond simple. Without a good tire model you cannot have an accurate sim. Plus, you really think they can accurately model the physics of 1000 cars? No lol

Technically, it is. You should've said he hasn't played GT5 so he can't comment about physics. But if you did that, it would make you a hypocrite.

How would it make him a hypocrite, he was merely pointing out the game wasn't out yet, which technically, it isn't.

No he was pointing out the other poster can't comment on the physics cause the game isn't out. The hypocrisy comes from gaming25 saying the physics in GT5 are great, in another thread, when he himself hasn't played the game either.
And technically since people have already bought the game from retailers, it is out.

I brought that up because thats what it is probably going to be. I doubt that many people are going to say that the physics in GT5 are going to be crap.

Even from my blog post regarding my first impressions of GT5 from the kiosk demo, I still think the sounds are quite good for the NASCAR stock cars. Closer to the real roar of stock cars than most other stock car and NASCAR games I've played previously. It takes a great deal of patience and skill to race these cars strongly to victory. I still have my curb riding nightmares when I did my Professional handling runs in the GT5 kiosk demo.

With some of the new tracks, I am a bit curious as to how these will be to race. I actually think Monza is the kind of track NASCAR could really give some good racing on if they wanted to do some more international racing. If these NASCAR cars did Special Stage Route 7, I would be fearful of The Big One or if there needs to be restrictor plates equipped on the cars for blasting down the long straights. Seeing the NASCAR stock cars race around Cape Ring will be interesting as well. The banked loop is going to be quite interesting for these cars.

I think what unnerves many people is that you don't get 43 cars to a track. Most of the videos I've seen have featured 12 cars to a track at maximum, but you still get a solid number of cars to a track with GT5's engine. Whether 12 or 16, that's still better than the six cars we've been used to for the past four Gran Turismos and much better than the four cars in Gran Turismo PSP. I wouldn't fret too much just because there aren't 43 of these stock cars to a track. So fear not.

If Sony doesn't run that Butler ad during what's left of this NASCAR season, then the officially don't have a fracking clue how to advertise their products. And so far, with a full day of [across ESPN & SPEED] practice, qualifying, and the Camping World Truck Series finale determining the team owner championship, it doesn't look good! On the PS Blog, they said that they would be running the ad during Sunday's NFL games!!! What are these stupid people doing!!!!

Buying more expensive commercials spots that don't target their audience.

That's hard to say...more people watch the NFL and a lot of NASCAR fans are not younger people who are your general PS3 core audience. Besides, do they really need to remind NASCAR-gamers that GT5 is coming out next week? NO! lol.

We knew we were not getting real Nascar in GT5. 16 cars on the track isn't
Nascar. Nascar is all about door to door racing with 40+ cars on the track.

Yeah well 16 racers is the highest amount I have seen for a PS3 game online, and it's double the amount of some "other" racing games that receive amazing reviews. I wish there were 43 cars on the track, but this will be the most advanced A.I., the best drafting system, and the best graphics you will ever experience NASCAR with this generation imo.

People who are watching the NFL are not likely going to be as interested in GT5 as someone watching a NASCAR race. I bet there's a lot of people that don't know NASCAR is in the game either.

Plus...most NASCAR fans I know that love racing games are playing iracing anyway.

Football fans are interested in ED pills apparently, that all I see advertised during football.
Also, a ton of 40+ play GT5P 👍
And SPEED must be way cheaper than NBC etc..
Plus I watch SPEED mostly, therefore I think most GT fans watch SPEED more than other channels :D
For example, me and my boys watch Monster Jam twice a day on SPEED and no GT commercials. PD is missing the shows that attract motorsports minded people of all ages... on a relatively cheap channel.

I'd hope they'd get the Cup cars right first before throwing in the trucks as well.

I have a feeling you won't be happy, whatever happens in the GT series.
I get that feeling from your comments.

It's too bad people can't take it for what it is, a game.
If it were a real simulator not many could afford it.
Take it for what it is, not what PD calls it.

Seeing that your the expert and have driven the cars please give your in-depth review on how the tuning changed the cars handling once you changed the setup. There will be tuning (something like GT5P), it looks as though just not from the pit stop in what looks to be a normal race with NASCAR cars, not an actual NASCAR rules race.
GT has never had this feature for races and probably wouldn't in the future either if not for NASCAR being involved.
We have not seen those tuning options at all, so who knows what adjustments can be made. Please enlighten us with your expertise on this.

For all we know the Jeff Gordon Challenge (whatever the name is) may have all your dreams answered. For all we know (nothing for now) there may be all those settings you want, including cautions, pace cars, close rolling starts, etc. for those who want such things.

Don't compare console games to computer games that are not even the same game, computers have better resources and twice the graphics memory is needed for GTR.
That's like comparing dial up internet with hi-speed internet. Same thing but different. Apples and oranges. Irrelevant.
And no, I won't bring up the 1000+ car list, because I'm not in an argument, it seems you are and with most of the replies to you, you should see that.
The game is not in my hands so I do not get all hyped up over what may or may not be included.

As for the gauges, different teams use different gauges.http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/391790/Jimmie_Johnson_Cockpit.jpg
It's the 48 team's dash and looks a lot like the layout of the 24 car video, the gauges are different and these cars come from the exact same shop.
A lot of Toyota teams use TRD gauges.
It's too bad people have to dread over such details. Whatever.
I don't use that view, and it's a wasted detail for me as well as most of my gaming friends.

Go have fun with GTR ( because GT5 is such a disappointment for you after playing it and all) and we will have fun with GT5.
Simple.
At the very least you can save your money.

No doubt putting 43 cars on the track requires hardware so there less for other features.(No Nascar game has the features or graphics GT5 has) GT5 isn't meant to be a Nascar game just the cars are including in the game with only two ovals. It's more like Nascar on road courses. I personally love the idea Stock cars are added to Gt series and will be racing them on more than just ovals.

P.S if you have Daytona with restrictor plates it would be boring and wouldn't really work with only 16 cars. In the Daytona race with restrictors if you end up by yourself you are pretty much screwed since you will be slower than those in packs. With only 16 cars on the track mean less packs and increase the odds one mistake will leave you out to dry for the rest of the race.

I'm still envisioning NASCAR in GT5 and where all I would race. Hell, slap on some dirt tires, and I'd be dirt oval racing a stock car! I went back to playing the GT5 kiosk demo. My last best time at Indy in a stock car was in the 51 second range. Well, I pulled a 49.506 playing that track yesterday. It was my first-ever time I lapped south of 50 seconds at Indy. The Indy oval is something I've never been able to totally figure out how to go fast at (even with Enthusia's Speediapolis Ring, based on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway). It's possible you could complete an entire lap with little or no brake (or even at full throttle), but my problem has been finding a consistent line to use in going around Indy. I sometimes can't hook on the very inside, so I have to go middle and high into the corners while making sure not to tag the outside wall.

That's Indy. I can only imagine what Daytona will be like in this game. Maybe even imagine what Motegi Superspeedway would be like if GT5 includes it. NASCAR raced there back in 1996 in an exhibition, so this would be no new experience.

That's Indy.

Well John, maybe Jeff Gordon can help you find the way around Indy and if not, the online leaderboard will.

Either way it sounds as though you had a great time yesterday and certainly will have fun come the end of next week.

To Indy and GT5, finally.

Didnt they say NASCAR events in GT5 will be held with full rules? Yet i see people going over the yellow line, no pace car\pace lap, no flag rules...come to think of it, i didnt see any nascar events in the event halls, maybe they are in Pro or Extreme.

Daytona and Indy are kinda boring, because they are 90% flat out, so despite the high speeds(without restrictors) it gets mundane, i know online will be a whole different game, but still some short ovals or tri ovals and a road course or 2 would keep NASCAR from being misrepresented as a flat out left turning circus for those unfamiliar and getting their first taste in GT5.

@JohnBM01 Motegi SS actually i find has a very hard line to trace, it depends what your driving but turns 3 and 4 are tricky as hell to get a good exit speed on. Fingers crossed, for Motegi and Infineon, even upscaled is better than nothing...
