The only hope I see is the new Ethonel blend breaking the Hendrick engines. But then Smoke wont have a chance either =/

Geez, you just can't stop Jimmie Johnson. The problem is that the only thing to really hate about him is that he's dominant (although mostly in winning Cups, rather than so many races). For the first time in a while, the championship race actually was actually a race, so hats off to the number 48.

Hey, did anyone else find all those racing lines kind of weird? I've watched NASCAR since 1986, and that's the first time I've seen a race where drivers took all sorts of lines around the track from flag-to-flag; although it really was much more interesting!

Rick Hendrick moves Lance McGrew to Mark Martin, Alan Gustafson to Jeff Gordon, and Steve Letarte to Dale Jr.

Interesting.

AWWWWESOME. I can't wait to see the changes. None of those teams lived up to their potential.

EDIT:

In addition to the personnel moves, the cars of Gordon and Martin will be fielded out of the same facility, now known as the 5/24 shop. Earnhardt and Johnson will be in the 48/88 shop. Previously the 24 and 48 cars were built in the same building, and the 5 and 88 were together.

Nice.

Very interesting. I feel that the chemistry between Jeff Gordon and Steve Letarte was good and really didn't need to be changed. The only reason for all these changes is Dale Jr, the last two years have been unacceptable. Nevertheless, really looking forward to how these three teams gel next season.

Not sure why they messed with the 24 team. Gordon seemed to be performing well, his problem was luck, or lack of good luck.

Not sure this will help the 88, I've never thought of Jr. as a good driver.

I think it's also time for Martin to retire. (for real this time) He's the Brett Favre of NASCAR.

Completely agree here. Hendrick really has 2 well runing teams and 2 wild cards. Seems they want to make the 5 and 88 more predictable by using info from the 24 and 48. I do wonder how this would affect the 24 since it has by far been the most affected by knaus techniques.

I'm not really convinced this change is gonna help Dale. I honestly think this car is the problem. Again if you notice whenever he ran the Nationwide car (the old car), he finished well. This car on the other hand, barely runs well at all outside restrictor plate tracks. In my mind, I think Jr has lost his touch and nothing is gonna make him run well.

Are you forgetting who was 2nd in points for most of the 2008 season behind Kyle Busch?

Only time will tell.

Wolfe moving up to cup.

True, I think he's lacked that motivation last two seasons, plus when things are not right between the crew chief and driver, then it does affect the whole performance of the team. Anyway, I don't think he'll ever have a good run at the title now, the aim for this team is try to get to victory lane a few times and make the chase obviously.

For only one season. Afterwards, he hasn't been able to repeat that.

Looks great.

You know, it does kind of look like a Mitsubishi the new Dodges. Part of me still wishes the REAL Charger made a return like its Challenger sibling, not as an economy sedan or coupe. It's still not a bad-looking car.

You guys didn't hear the news that Penske would be running Lancers next year?

Pics are pretty obvious..

If you have never been to a real race I got a nascar gifts for my birthday and it was awesome, I got one for my dad for the holidays. If you need a good gift for your pops or brother check them out.

Just because it's getting close to that time of year where things start happening in Daytona, it's time to give this thread a little wake up.

I had been reading around the internet and in my local news paper that with the new track surface, according to Mark Martin, you could run 6 laps and not even wear the stickers off the tires. Going on to say, it may be possible to run massively long stints on the tires, or just never change them at all. Being that the fueling will still take time, I'm betting that tires will be opted for, just even if only two, because throwing some tires on is the natural thing to do in Nascar. It's worth noting, the right side tires are the same as ran at Charlotte, which seems odd, I'd figure they would run a harder tire.

Apparently, the fastest lap was at 197.XXX miles per hour, Nascar had also commented on looking to add another 64th of an inch to drop the speed down some, which to me is senseless, how much worse is a 197mph crash than one that happens at 189-190mph. However I will say 197 sounds more exciting, regardless if anyone, the drivers included can tell the difference. Dale Jr. said about lapping the newly repaved surface at Talladega, with the fastest lap of 211mph, that it felt no different than the regular speeds the cars run. I say let them run, it's going to be mayhem even if it were at 75mph.

I'm excited to go to the Bud Shootout this year, I will however bring a hard hat, as flying debris may be an issue.

Another thought...

I really figured Jeff Gordon not having Dupont as his primary sponsor would be a sad thing, and it kind of is, as that was the last of the old sponsors that had been around sine the early 90's with the same driver. But, having seen his car done up in it new livery is not bad at all, in fact I really like it.

It's a really nice red color, something different from flames or rainbows, very cool.

This livery will be used for 22 races, the old flaming Dupont car will be ran for 14 races. According to Jayski's anyway.

There apparently is another pre-season test this Saturday at Daytona, maybe I'll make it over because its free. I've actually not seen the new surface, but I want to, maybe I should use this chance.

That's all I've got.

Edit: Apparently, and I've just found this out, Jimmie Johnson will not be allowed to use a spoiler this year. :dopey:

Good!

Edit: On that note, someone else is going to win the Cup this year. I can feel it...

Keselowski's in the 2 car now, isnt he? Who's Harvick's new sponsor in the 29?

So Budweiser have left RPM, I take it due to the #9 getting axed as they downsize to the 43 for Allmendinger and another car for Ambrose. I hope Ambrose does well this year, and I reckon that he could be at least in the top 20.
