Not much other info, and nothing on Jayski's, but interesting none the less. Why does Nascar draw so many divers of other disciplines?

Thats what I've always wondered. We now have 3 former F1 drivers, one indycar driver (Technically two, at the moment), a Champcar driver, and now a Moto/rallycar champion. Just downright amazed at this point.

You forgot the Motocross champion(Ricky Carmichael) and the V8 Supercar driver(Marcos Ambrose), Tony Stewart also used to race Indycars before going to NASCAR and Robby Gordon did some CART racing.

I think there are several reasons they come to NASCAR, part of it is money but part of it is a new challenge. Most of the drivers that have switched have been highly successful in their previous disciplines and they view NASCAR as a new challenge.

Although come next year we may be down a couple as it looks like Speed and Hornish may be out of rides.

Gosh darn. How could I forgot Ricky and Marcos :dunce: Also, Tony Stewart is what I meant by "Technically two"

I don't know what drivers make outside of NASCAR, but I think the reason they move towards NASCAR is because it is more competitive than other series.
I mean in the fact that the cars are very similar and the budgets keep most teams on the same playing field.

The Cup series is where the drivers can end up if they find their way through the lower series and be competitive.
Danica comes to mind here. Her and many before her find it is very hard to become very good in NASCAR as it is just that, hard.
To be off pace here a little is a little too much and there are plenty of others to fill that seat.
Look at the times at Texas last weekend.

40 drivers within 1 second for qualifying.
This includes drivers such as Patrick Carpentier, Scott Speed, Sam Hornish, Marcos Ambrose, Andy Lally and Juan Montoya, all drivers from other series.

Sounds very competitive and makes me believe almost any car could win a race.
This doesn't happen much with some teams being very consistant and well, just being great teams overall. We know who.
Most teams that fall behind during the races are due to part failures and bad luck more than anything.

Tony Stewart comes to mind as a driver who came form amother series and made a name for himself as a NASCAR driver, bacame a champion and is now an owner.
I'm sure it's done before but that is the last one in the last 15 - 20 years.

Oh yeah, and the money ain't bad either.

How is Tony Stewart "technically" an IRL driver? The guy did win a championship in 1997.

I don't mean it in a bad sense, I say "technically" because the majority of fans don't relize Tony Stewart was a Indycar driver. The only indycar drivers that come to their minds are Sam Hornish and Danica Patrick.

I'm still going "Wut?" in my head. Funny video though.

Man that was a tense finish, about time Carl Edwards got that #99 in victory lane, well done to him. Going to be good next week, 46 points in it between the top three.

Its.... BACKFLIP TIME! :D Congrats Carl and yes its going to be as fun as the F1 Championship! :) Oh, can't wait to see what Travis can do... ---- Randy

Even though I feel bad for Juan, I was hoping those who stayed out would start dropping like flies.
Not for Denny's sake, because that made a tighter points battle, but because the 31 had pit for gas. :indiff:

Harvick was very lucky today.

Carl Edwards is a miracle worker in these fuel mileage races. This wasn't quite shades of 2008 at Texas, but he barely looked like he was saving fuel until the last few laps, and he admitted as much in his post-race comments. He also says that he has a method for saving fuel that he chooses not to divulge, which of course makes me very curious. What could he be doing that other drivers haven't figured out already?

Holy cow guys.I just now found out on Speed channel that Travis Pastrana is teaming up with Michael Waltrip to form Pastrana-Waltrip racing team for The Nationwide series next year.

I know that nascar is a different type of racing and takes a required skill, but i think Travis Pastrana will do ok.

All i know is i've got a new driver to root for next year in the Nationwide series :)

About Travis Pastrana teaming up with Michael Waltrip to form Pastrana-Waltrip Racing'

From this link.

First things first. Waltrip doesn't envision Pastrana making his inaugural NASCAR start until mid-to-late 2011, using perhaps races in the K&N Pro Series to get him acclimated to stock cars, with maybe some Camping World Truck Series events thrown in. Although Pastrana has extensive experience in rally cars, he hasn't competed on a traditional oval. Waltrip envisions a plan that places Pastrana in a support-series ride somewhere once a week.

"Hopefully, he can make all his mistakes and learn all the lessons that he has to learn, and get up to speed where we can be very comfortable when he runs his first Nationwide race or first Truck race, that he is in a position to be competitive," Waltrip said. "That's his goal. He wants to test and work really hard at getting up to speed."

It looks as though they have a great outlook on what they are going to do for the sport, more than what's in it for them.
I hope they do well in the coming years.

On a different matter.
I listen to the radios (trackpass scanner) during Cup races and didn't know that the Nationwide races had the scanners for free for 10 Nationwide races, including Homestead.
If you plan on watching the race you should try it, I like it.
You can hear the officials channel also, which I find great to listen to.
During yesterday's Cup race there was a caution for debris which turned out to be a water bottle. It took the officials 2-3 laps to call the caution with them trying to figure what the debris was and the official in the tower didn't sound too happy with the debris being clear plastic.

Here is a link and if you do want to try it I have a way to listen to multiple radios, just PM me before Saturday and I will fill you in.

Saw a Facebook post from the #78 team today, who had their hauler and team RV in a 30+ car pileup in Colorado this morning. The hauler is totaled, and they will have to cut open the trailer to get everything out.

Fortunately Richard Childress Racing will be lending them a hauler (fully loaded) to use this weekend in Homestead. 👍 to that. :)

Well, it all comes down to Homestead. Johnson vs. Hamlin vs. Harvick in Omnis country. Jimmie Johnson looking for his fifth successive title. If you see it like Hamlin and Harvick vs. Johnson, a championship win for Hamlin or Harvick would seem like an upset. I do love Jimmie Johnson, but I just really feel for Denny Hamlin. Just seems like a great guy and a great racer. Part of me wants to see the #48 run circles all over the other 42 cars, but another part of me wants to see Denny Hamlin end Jimmie Johnson's title streak. I'm not counting out Kevin Harvick, though.

Right now, the #48, #11, and #29 make up that Triple Threat for the championship. Two Chevrolets against one Toyota (Hamlin). A championship win for Johnson or Harvick will only extend Chevy's dominance in Cup. A championship win for Hamlin will be the first NASCAR Cup championship by a Toyota racer.

Tell it, GTPlanet- Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, or Kevin Harvick... Who's leaving South Florida with the 2010 NASCAR Cup championship?

I really don't think Harvick has a shot, he is too far down and I don't see Johnson or Hamlin having horrible races and him winning(than again we did see a similar situation at Abu Dhabi, so it's not impossible)

Johnson has a realistic shot, but doesn't have the momentum that Hamlin does.

Hamlin is my pick for the title, he is the defending winner at Homestead and has been on a roll lately.

Totally agree on Hamlin to win with the momentum.

With 36 points anything can happen.
I call on lady luck to win the Championship.
Any driver who has good luck, verses bad luck will probably win.
Look at the 2 last races, at Talledaga Hamlin was a lap down and it looked bad for him. Hamlim was lucky to finish where he did, in 9th.
Look at Texas, Harvick had the lug nut issue and with luck he finished 6th.

In this sport luck is a contributing factor to the race outcome. You can have bad luck early in the race but without good luck later in the race it's hard to get a good finish. Bad luck late in the race and your done.

For whoever wins it's only 40 points back to 7th position so these teams really need to be top notch this weekend. If the winner leads the most laps it's 40 points to the 6th position.

I would like to see Harvick win the Championship (I'm a Burton fan) but I think if the cards fall correctly, Hamlin wins.

I feel that this is Denny Hamlin's year to win the title, he was my pick before the season started, so I guess I got to stick with the prediction. However, anything can happen this weekend at Homestead, the 48 team will go down fighting and so will the 29 team.

I don't like seeing Jimmie win all the time but I'd rather a Chevrolet won the title.

If Denny Hamlin wins the title this weekend it will be Toyota's first Sprint Cup title. Not only that, JGR will be making history aswell winning with three different manufactures. So basically, we are going to witness history one way or another this weekend.

Homestead puts on a good race with the progressive banking.

Anyone remember the great run Ambrose was having at this race last year?

That's actually not very much if you consider the size of both tracks.

It would be a lot different if they didn't use the restrictor plates at Talladega.

Jeff Burton had the fastest lap of the fall race at over 197 mph, it could be the fastest lap speed of the year. Of course that's still with the plate but most likely including drafting. It was lap 42.

I barely remember this years races.

Yes I agree about the Homestead track and it's multi-groove racing, there's plenty of space to go around.

Why is everyone hating on Jimmie Johnson? I really do not understand and hes not even my favorite driver. (Jeff gordon is ever since i was little and saw those flames ive loved that car!) Is it because he has won 4 championships in a row?

It's not that we hate Jimmy Johnson it's just with him winning all the time it puts off people from watching the races, which hurts Nascar.Would you want to see the same guy win year after year after year after year?

A lot of people who are new to the sport would find this boring, since i'm a fan i'll keep watching week after week. It's the new fans that may get bored and quit watching.I'm not saying this is actually happening, but it's possible. So with that said we need a new Champion come this
Sunday.

I'm hoping Denny Hamlin gets the win this Sunday. It would be nice to finally see Jeff Gordon win though(i'm a fan too, been so since his rookie season)
