I would assume that they would run Chevy with the Earnhardt name still being on the team.

I must ask though, with GM's current situation, can chevy even stay afloat to fully support them for 09? And Dodge clearly is not competitive most of the time.

Johnny Benson wins the Championship!!!

YEAH HOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw it earlier and boy, I had a Heart attack the entire time. Congrats to Johnny Benson. I really hope he gets a seat in 09.

Hey, good for Johnny Benson. I have great respect for him. He just seems like a very mellow and well-natured guy. He's not some Tony Stewart clone who does nothing but get on the bad side of fans. He's just a true gentleman for what I know. Good for Johnny Benson. Congratulations, champ!

Up next- Nationwide! Then after that, Jimmie Johnson's epic clash with Carl Edwards on Sunday. Winner goes to New York City and gets some hardware and celebrates.

Yeah. i just got back from the race and man let me tell you. It's was awesome, and o by the way, I practically chewed my nails off watching it. I was there for the last 4 years and seeing be a bride's maid in 2006 and winning the race in 2007 , finally winning the Championship is amazing. The calls by Trip Bruce were spot on and it couldn't of be closer and more exciting than what it turned out to be. Last 40 laps were the best. What Johnny managed to squeeze out of those 2 right side tires were great. He is the nicest guy ever. Gives no credit to himself but only to others, his family, crew and of course, Bill Davis.

GM have repeatedly said that they would back their NASCAR teams, but for how long? Their stock is only about $2 a share now.

Seeing as they recently annouced they would no longer support their teams in the Rolex Sports Car Series under the Pontiac banner, I imagine it won't be long until they next announce for NASCAR.

Congrats Clint Bowyer for the 2008 Nationwide cup.

Unless if something drastic happens, you're right they'll have to.

Congrats Clint Bowyer for the 2008 Nationwide cup.

Bowyer was the picture of consistency this season, he did what he needed to do to keep that lead.

Yeah. But i do not like his attitude towards the media and other drivers.

Like I said about Johnny Benson... congratulations. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. My congratulations go out to Clint Bowyer as well. I heard Carl Edwards won the race, but Bowyer won the title war.

For Sunday... will we celebrate Jimmie Johnson (going for three-straight titles) or Carl Edwards (who I think will be a champion in Cup some day at least once)? We'll see who gets out of South Beach with the victory.

You can't just say it's a fluke like most people do about Jimmie though. He's a tremendously skilled driver and kinda reminds me of MS for some reason. Like MS, when he has to push and get those extra positions, he'll get those positions. And a lot of it also goes with the man, the myth, the legend........Chad Kunas. He's a genius. Plus the whole Hendrick organization.

Blame the media for sticking the cameras and microphones in the drivers' faces the moment they step out of their cars, they're not always in the best of moods, especially after getting beat by the guy chasing you in the championship (which has happened on many occasions this year with Bowyer and Edwards).

O yeah? I seem to not understand while talking inside his car during a race to his his crew about other drivers. No excuse man. Bowyer is an arse. He's like Stewert. He gets worked up by little things. Edwards sucks it up while being interviewed.

I think you mean "Chad Knaus," Mine's_GTR...

Of course. lol

Right now, it's Lap 51 of 267 with Carl Edwards leading. Jimmie Johnson is running 19th as he heads into the pits. There's your progress report. Not good so far for the #48...

UPDATE Now it's Lap 52 with Kevin Harvick leading. #99 in the pits.

Can you say 'dynasty'?

Sure, I knew that you could. :sly:

Like I said before, its Jimmie's. Congrats to that man. Hail to the king, baby:sly:

Welcome to the club, Jimmie Johnson! I love Jeff Gordon. Too bad he didn't win a single race this season. However, Jimmie Johnson is just an exceptional driver. I think you have to show respect for Jimmie Johnson even if you don't like him or even if you don't like NASCAR. Winning a championship is hard. Winning three in a row is difficult. He has the consistency and work ethic to pull it off. And to think that Hendrick Motorsports had a terrible start to the season... all for one of their own to win the title. Jimmie Johnson has had my full respect since I began to grow respect for him. He went from Jeff Gordon's protegé to a championship-winning NASCAR driver under a great team like Hendrick Motorsports.

My unyielding respect goes to Jimmie Johnson. A real classy guy who doesn't have this tough guy attitude or always in the news. This is really a cool season as far as classy guys winning titles. Not sure about Clint Bowyer, but surely Johnny Benson and Jimmie Johnson are true class acts in NASCAR. Great season for the #48 Lowe's Chevy.

Great job to Jimmie Johnson and his 48 team, I really didn't favor him winning this championship after how rough their start to the season was.

I also have to give credit to Carl Edwards for giving Johnson a run, I think the championship would've been way closer if he hadn't started that wreck at Talladega and didn't have igntion problems at Charlotte. His performance was equally as impressive as Johnson's, winning 9 races.

I see both Edwards and Johnson being two of the guys to beat for the championship in the years to come.

Rookies of the Year:

Regan Smith is your Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year. Landon Cassill is your Nationwide Rookie of the Year. And finally, Texas' own Colin Braun goes from Grand-Am to NASCAR Trucks to be Rookie of the Year in NASCAR Craftsman (soon-to-be Camping World) Trucks.

Congratulations to these stars.

The Big Three automakers' economic issues are now impacting NASCAR. I've heard of seats being removed at Texas Motor Speedway as well as teams merging. Do you think this will help out NASCAR in the long run?

This won't help NASCAR per se, just like it doesn't help F1 that Honda are pulling out, or that spec-engines will be introduced. What it does help, then? It helps the series and the competitors survive in the first place: Trimming the fat, or the least of necessities, in order to keep it going in one form or the other..

BHR shuts down
There goes Dodge's only hope right there. They are already done

Dodge was pulling out of trucks anyway for 2009, leaving BHR without any factory support.
