Very nice job by Gordon. I predicted it was gonna be out of him and Johnson for the win(or in that case beteen the two). I felt he was gonna win one sooner or later.

Well Reutimann has owned Waltrip since that team started in Cup and Michael said that he would step down as a driver and focus on being an owner to do the best he could for Reutimann.

When I hear "Franchise", I think champions or championship contenders so to see Reutimann with that moniker, it kinda conflicts with my interpretation.

Anyone find it interesting that the race was on Fox (where Darrell Waltrip is an analyst) and Jeff Gordon won at Texas in his 17th attempt there. as Darrell did the Daytona 500 in 1989.

Look at where Reutimann is in the points standings and compare where he is with Mikey, Reutimann should fit your description of 'the franchise' afterward.

After thinking about it, that is rather ironic.

Okay, I do see now.

Well, congrats to Gordon! I didn't get to see the race (I was at Church), but I'm planning on painting the raced version of his car tomorrow.

From,
Chris.

I want to congratulate Joey Logano on his victory at Nashville Superspeedway in the Nationwide series.

Again, the next round of Sprint Cup will come around at Phoenix. TS country.

Mark Martin is on the pole again

Something tells me he is running experimental equipment from Hendrick

That could explain his pace and engine failures

It's about to be showtime in Avondale, Arizona. I have Mark Martin as a dark horse to win this race tonight.

Good luck to the 43 drivers and all the teams to compete tonight at Phoenix International Raceway.

Congrats goes out to the veteran,Mark Martin. 👍
Nice run in Phoenix.Just goes to show, your never to old.

...the hell? I pick a dark horse to win... and he won? Where's my pay? ;) Talladega next weekend!

I continually think of Mark Martin as NASCAR's greatest tragic hero. Such an amazing veteran NASCAR racer, but never winning the championship. I remember him piloting the old Valvoline Fords (Thunderbird and Taurus from my experience). If he wins the title eventually, then he's complete. I'd love nothing more than to see him win a title. He's worked for too long in NASCAR. I'd love for this veteran of many years in NASCAR to win a title.

Juan Montoya got his first pole in NASCAR today, never thought it would take him this long.

That is cool to see Montoya get a pole.

I look for Tony "Smoke" Stewart to get his first win this year today.

If not him, then it will probably be a Hendrick car.

I can't wait for Talladega in the morning. It has to be my favorite track.

That was a good race. I think Michael Waltrip called it the best NASCAR race ever

As for David Ragan, yeah its nice he won but he needs to show so much more.

People keep saying hes going to win in Sprint Cup he's the next first time winner but I don't see it

Next year Juan Montoya should be sitting in one of Roush's cars, likely the 26. He's proven so far this year he's settled in and can win with better equipment

Huge crash, they just said 21 out of 43 cars went by without damage.
Bowyer took a hard hit, Jeff Gordon, Harvick, and A.J. Allmendinger, others involved. Made it to Lap 8.

EDIT: Brad Keselowski won, Carl Edwards had an epic flip in the last turn.

Just had a heart attack. That was an amazing finish to a very amazing race. Happy for Brad for his very first win. And great to see that Carl Edwards has some sense of humor to joke around after actually seeing the finish line and maybe going to win after camping out in the back to whole race and only ending up on his roof.

I think they really need to get rid of the double yellow line because that makes it two races in a row at Talladega that the double yellow line has been a big factor for the end of this race. Regan Smith and Tony Stewart last year and this year with Brad and Carl.

Also, Nascar and the Talladega crew has done a fantastic job with the catch fence.

And yet another one Jr. couldn't seal the deal.

NASCAR either needs to do away with the yellow line through the tri-oval or allow guys that are racing for the win to pass below there without a penalty. That incident with Edwards and Keselowski was preventable, but after the Stewart/Regan Smith deal Brad couldn't pass Carl down there after that ruling.

I'm happy for Brad winning his first cup race, I'm happy that Edwards & Newman are both ok after taking serious hits, but I'm not happy with NASCAR's rules with the yellow line.

EDIT: Here's the video of the finish.

A HUGE 👍👍👍 for this one.

Very, very scary ending to an awesome race. From what I understand, there were some fan injuries following the crash, but nothing is released as of yet to what the extent of the injuries were.

Congrats Brad Keselowski on your 1st Nacar win. 👍

Carl Edward deserves all the credit in the world for not being a whining crybaby and accusing Keselowski of being too agressive. He openly admitted that he came down on Brads car trying to block him and did not realize that he was that close.

And to add to that for the Aussies....Marcus Ambrose finishes a career best 4th place, his consistency is what's keeping him in the chase hunt!! 👍

I honestly thought Edwards was going to go through the fence at the angle the car was....and how lucky was Ryan Newman, if the 99 car was a foot lower it would've been a lot worse for him.

I was sad to see Jeff Gordon get taken out so early. I was ESPECIALLY fine that Carl Edwards got out of the car safely after his car got owned. Glad the fans were alright from the intense action. I'm talking about the eight fans that had to be checked on from Carl Edwards' ownage into the wall.

It's kind of a pity that Regan didn't get the call last fall, or we would have had two straight totally out-of-the-blue winners in a row at this track. While the insane flip wasn't what I expected, I actually imagined, as a definite possibility, almost exactly what transpired: Keselowski making a move and Edwards blocking and spinning out of contention for the win. I just wish NASCAR had humored Carl when he ran across the finish line, because changing his status from one lap down to on the lead lap wouldn't have affected his position in the running order.

Have any of you looked at the points standings and been a bit bewildered at times? Sure, Gordon and Busch on top isn't too surprising, and the commentators have talked enough about Reutimann for his presence in the top 12 to be fairly predictable, but if I hadn't been paying attention to the standings at all, I'd be baffled by the proximity of people like Montoya and Ambrose to the Chase cutoff. They've just been so low-key this year.

That was probably the second best finish I've ever seen(#1 being Craven Vs. Busch at Darlington). I wonder if NASCAR will change the rules on the yellow line now before someone gets killed.

Also I am thinking NASCAR should buy the fans that were in the seats by where Edwards hit new pants.:sly:

Love how Brad accidentally got spun out by Kyle Bush.

Gotta love someone spinning themselves out on the victory lap on someone else's bumper.

One other notable thing that went mostly unnoticed was Clint Bowyer's team repairing his destroyed car and allowing him the opportunity to finish the race, keeping his streak of what's now 82 consecutive finished races going (link).

Also, congratulations to the "underdogs" that finished better than expected, many despite significant damage to their cars: Marcos Ambrose (4th), Scott Speed (5th), Joey Logano (9th), Reed Sorenson (11th), Paul Menard (13th), Joe Nemechek (14th), Regan Smith (15th), and Max Papis (18th). Oh, and I guess I have to include Brad Keselowski (1st) in that list, too. ;)

EPIC!

Big props to Montoya for leading laps.
Big props to Fox Sports for amazing HD coverage.
Big props to safer barriers and fences.
Big fail to roof flaps.
Big props to Edwards and Keselowski for one of the best finishes ever.

Oh, this is what DW was talkin' about:

I was watching most of the race, but had to turn off with about 30 laps to go.. At the time, Denny Hamlin, Dale Jr. and Kyle Busch were trading positions at the top - could anyone tell me where they ended up?
