I can't say I agree because I don't have cable and can't watch races on ESPN or TNT. Still, I would have agreed with your sentiment if I could watch the races, because NBC/TNT can be fairly sloppy sometimes. However, I would have disagreed if you said that about five years ago when Allen Bestwick was still the play-by-play announcer. I really miss the days when he was in the broadcast booth, because nobody these days except Mike Joy is nearly as good as he was. 👎

I agree on the second part, they were the best years ago, back then I was happy to hear the race was on TNT/NBC. Now however, when they do a race it is constant talking or commercials. It is like a bad talk show with cars in the background.:nervous:

Also, don't forget BP, he was awesome in the booth. After he passed the broadcast was never the same.

I thought taking coverage away from TNT/NBC was a plus.

Also, I like the new Jayski already, it doesn't feel like a site from the 90's anymore.

Listening to Jerry Punch do play by play is as entertaining as watching grass grow.

Congrats to Jimmie. Bad luck to Montoya. What a bummer.

Another great run for Mark Martin again.

And yes, the commentating is beyond garbage. I never heard so much about Tony Stewart being from Indy and blah blah blah, can he win, how would it feel to win...

Damn I was cheering for Montoya to win with the throwback colors, what a shame!

I was too, hated that it he got penalised.

Congratulations to Jimmie Johnson for getting it done. And though I love Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards, I also feel for Juan Pablo Montoya. More controversy for NASCAR, I reckon... no shortage of drama in NASCAR.

My heart sank to my stomach when I heard about the speeding penalty. I pretty much lost interest in the race after that.

Gutted for Montoya... properly gutted,..

My website link on profile is for my JPM fansite,.... like I say gutted.

Well on Sunday while watching the race on Justin.tv I was talking with some of the people about who would sponsor the 17, I said Crown Royal and they thought I was wrong.
UPDATE: hearing that Roush Fenway Racing will announce sometime this week that Crown Royal will sponsor the #17 Ford of Matt Kenseth for approximately 18 races in 2010, replacing DeWalt. The other 18 races will probably be 2-3 other sponsors.(7-27-2009) Comment here

Am I good?

Also, this kind of confirms that the 26 is the team to get cut.

McMurray still has Irwin tools sponsorship that he'll either take to Yates or to another team.

Jamie is reportedly a candidate to take the 1 ride at Ganassi

Even if they do Irwin has always been a partial sponsor no matter what car it was on(97 and 26).

Also, new scheme for Ambrose, I like it.

Possibly a hint to a possible full license?

If Nascar and the networks had any idea of proper commentary and coverage, here's what the lineup should look like for 2010:

Fox: first 18 races with Randy Lajoie replacing Larry "the Cable Guy" McReynolds as color commentator, no changes otherwise

TNT: scrap coverage completely, they became a joke when Bill Weber took over play-by-play

ESPN Booth: second 18 races with this revised lineup- Alan Bestwick, Dale Jarrett, Andy Petree

ESPN Pit Road: Jerry Punch, Marty Smith, Jack Arute, Jamie Little

ESPN Analysts: Rusty Wallace, Ray Evernham

By the way, does anybody think Jimmie Johnson is on track to become the only driver in history to win 4 straight championships?

True, but if he's the guy that Roush is sending to Yates, I imagine he'll probably run Menards colors as well, or Bass Pro if he goes to EGR.

He certainly can, and this is about the time where he starts winning a bunch of races and moves up in points. He's never lost the point lead in the chase once he took it over, so he just may do it.

I think Fox needs to oust DW and his Boogity whatnot as well.
Imagine Varsha, Hobbs, Matchett covering the first half of the season. They are entertaining IMO. Though it wont be happening.

I think JJ could clearly be the first to 4 straight. I don't see why not, he will more than likely charge hard into the end of the season. Would it not be the upset of the century if Mark Martin pulled off his first championship at 50? Mark and Jimmy have had some great battles this year already, it would be great to see those two bring it down to the wire. Mark has had the title slip away from him a few times, he's like Reubens, always second. I think the two of them could put down some very clean intense battles, will be very fun to watch.

I don't know about a full license with Sprint Cup teams and drivers, as it doesn't fit in with the concept behind iRacing. I do know that next year iRacing will feature an officially sanctioned NASCAR online season though.

Yesterday on Fast Lane Daily ( http://www.youtube.com/FastLaneDaily ), there was some rumblings that Fusions in NASCAR could be replaced with... Mustangs? I think this will be for the Nationwide Series. I know Camaros used to race in NASCAR, but can you fathom MUSTANGS in NASCAR?

Yes, the Nationwide COT was/is supposed to be coming.
Chevy to make a Camaro body, Chrysler to make a Challenger, Ford a Mustang. However from the pictures I've seen, only the Challenger looks like a street car, looks draggy too with the inset nose. What 'Yoter will manufacture to be in that group I have no clue, a Supra body :D? Doubtful, could be interesting though. You can Google the Nationwide COT test and find the pictures. Like I said, only the Chrysler is anything to look at, as far as I've seen anyways.

I just doubt that were actually going to see any of that any time soon with the economic conditions. I wish it would happen though, with modified street cars, slow them WAY down, run mostly short tracks, and road courses. Sort of V8 supercar-ish but with our pony cars.

Just the whole stock part of the stock car would be really cool, not to mention slash operating costs. More built than the Koni challenge Mustangs and or the Grand-Am Camaros that will replace the G6 gxpR (or whatever it's called) next year. Way less built than the cars they run now.

Chevy is not entering the Camaro. They are sticking with the Impala.

That Challenger NWS COT looks quality, but as somebodies said already, can it really be aerodynamic enough?

POCONO this weekend :) Montoya is bringing the same chassis has he used at Indy to Pocono, would be great if he could have a similar kind of run this weekend :D

Well, we'll have to wait until Monday to find out if that is indeed the case.

Denny Hamlin won at Pocono. Juan Pablo Montoya, Clint Bowyer, Sam Hornish Jr. and Kasey Khane rounded out the Top 5. So up next is Watkins Glen for both Nationwide and Sprint Cup.

....and he finished in 2nd. Damn I'm good.:dopey:

Hours later edit: I predict another top-5 at the Glen. 👍

Big props to Johnson who came from three laps down to finish 13th. Kinda reminded me of some other driver...

Speaking of the Nationwide COT earlier. It would be cool if we really got cars like this.

Jayski's NASCAR site credits FORD for the Mustang image, maybe they will be heading in that direction? I can't see these two cars competing with more aerodynamic Camrys and Impalas. I remember reading along time ago that Chevy would be building based on the new Camaro, but like r1600 said, I guess not. I think the Camaro would be the way to go. I wonder if we will actually see these cars like these, I don't really think the money is there for cars like those two. More likely like these, which look better than the sprint cup cars thanks to the normal looking spoiler perhaps?

Absolutely! The Challenger in Posts #1,738 and #1,739 would be perfect. Something still doesn't seem right to me that something like these machines are raced by the NATIONWIDE Series rather than NASCAR Sprint Cup. Still, wouldn't you love to see something like this in NASCAR rather than go with stock cars based on economy cars? And yes... Toyota would be screwed since there is no car in Toyota's current lineup that even remotely looks like any of those modern pony cars.
