Okay guys, for all of those trying to get to the chase, this is whatr they have to do:

Carl Edwards
Edwards is currently 105 points ahead of 13th place. Regardless of any other driver’s finish, he will clinch if he finishes:
• 24th or better
• 25th and leads at least one lap
• 27th and leads most laps

Kasey Kahne
Kahne is currently 96 points ahead of 13th place. Regardless of any other driver’s finish, he will clinch if he finishes:
• 21st or better
• 23rd and leads at least one lap
• 24th and leads most laps

Kurt Busch
Busch is currently 95 points ahead of 13th place. Regardless of any other driver’s finish, he will clinch if he finishes:
• 20th or better
• 22nd and leads at least one lap
• 24th and leads most laps

Juan Pablo Montoya
Montoya is currently 88 points ahead of 13th place. Regardless of any other driver’s finish, he will clinch if he finishes:
• 18th or better
• 20th and leads at least one lap
• 21st and leads the most laps

Ryan Newman
Newman is currently 81 points ahead of 13th place. Regardless of any other driver’s finish, he will clinch if he finishes:
• 16th or better
• 17th and leads at least one lap
• 19th and leads the most laps

Mark Martin
Martin is currently 69 points ahead of 13th place. Regardless of any other driver’s finish, he will clinch if he finishes:
• 12th or better
• 14th and leads at least one lap
• 15th and leads the most laps

Greg Biffle
Biffle is currently 68 points ahead of 13th place. Regardless of any other driver’s finish, he will clinch if he finishes:
• 11th or better
• 13th and leads at least one lap
• 15th and leads the most laps

Matt Kenseth
Kenseth is currently 20 points ahead of 13th place. Regardless of any other driver’s finish, he will clinch if he finishes:
• Second and leads at least one lap
• Third and leads the most laps

Brian Vickers currently sits 13th, 17 points ahead of Kyle Busch. He would need to gain 21 points on Kenseth and stay ahead of Busch to clinch a Chase spot.

Busch, 37 points behind 12th, needs to gain 17 points on Vickers and 37 points on Kenseth to clinch.

David Reutimann, 132 points behind Kenseth, has an outside shot at clinching. He would have to gain 133 points on Kenseth. A maximum of 161 points can be made up in a given race.

It's complicated butI think we could work around everything.

Thanks to NASCAR.com for the information

Matt can do this. He showed what he can do ever since the Chase started. Look for him to be under the radar keeping his nose clean and waiting for other chase contenders to fall before he has a go at the front runners.

Come on Kenseth!!

Richard Petty Motorsports to run Fords in 2010, merge w/Yates: Richard Petty Motorsports and Yates Racing announced today they have signed a letter of intent to merge operations in time for the 2010 season. The four-car team will race Fords under the Richard Petty Motorsports banner.
Richard Petty: "This is a pretty big deal for us. We're thrilled to partner with Ford. We've talked with a lot of folks, but in the end it came down to the success the Gilletts and I think we can achieve with Ford Racing. Right now this deal is real new. There are lots of details still left to be ironed out so we don't have a lot of answers for anyone right now. We'll be working on all that in the coming days, weeks and months, but we do intend to have everything in place before the start of next season. I've won races with Ford and plan to again."
Team Managing Partner Foster Gillett: "Richard and Kasey (Kahne) showed us Sunday night in Atlanta that they like winning quite a bit and Ford is going to provide the support that we need to go to victory lane more often. If you are going to compete with the other teams in this sport you need a lot of support. We bring a lot to this relationship as well. We've won twice this season and the power of Richard Petty is hard to beat, plus we have the support of some of the biggest names in corporate America."
Yates Racing Co-owner Max Jones: "This is certainly a great opportunity for both Yates Racing as well as Ford Racing. I have had a long-term relationship with Ford and look forward to continuing that relationship at Richard Petty Motorsports. Over the coming weeks we will continue to work with Ford and Richard Petty to lay out the best plan for Paul Menard and all of the employees at Yates Racing. We will continue to field both the #98 and #96 Ford Fusions for the remainder of the season and look forward to continued success on the track with Paul, Bobby Labonte and Erik Darnell."
Yates Racing Co-owner Doug Yates: "This plan is clearly in the best interest of the Ford Racing community. On a personal level, I am excited about the opportunity to focus my full energy on building Ford horsepower. We look forward to working with Richard Petty Motorsports to produce power second to none. There are many details to be worked out with Richard Petty Motorsports and as we finalize those details we will keep everyone informed."
Director of Ford North America Motorsports Brian Wolfe: "I am very pleased that Richard Petty Motorsports has made the decision to switch to Ford for the 2010 season. They had choices to consider other than Ford and it's gratifying to us that they have enough faith in the Ford Motor Company and what we're doing to make the switch. We believe we can provide them with superior analytical tools and powertrain, and we will work with them closely on the technical front to help them become even more competitive than they are. What's also really cool to me is the chance to have someone with the class and the legacy of Richard Petty involved with Ford. Combine that with the chance to work with the Gillett family, who we have great respect for, and add some great drivers to the Ford camp, well, it's hard not to be excited about this opportunity."
Note: Paul Menard will be one of the drivers in the Petty team joining #9-Kasey Kahne, #19-Elliott Sadler and #44-AJ Allmendinger.(Richard Petty Motorsports)
and the PR doesn't mention Reed Sorenson or what car number Menard will run and with this merger, looks like the #26 Roush Fenway Racing team may now go away as they it not merge with Yates Racing now, since Yates and RPM merging is at the four car limit mandated by NASCAR. So unless something changes, two more cars/teams are lost: would expect RPM to run the #9, #19 and #43 so either the #44 team or the #98 team would go away and the #26 Ford that was rumored to be going to Yates.
UPDATE: on Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 128, Sirius Speedway radio show, Reed Sorenson, current driver of the #43 RPM Dodge, was interviewed and said he knew a few weeks ago that he would not be back with Richard Petty Motorsports in 2010 and he is looking for a ride in 2010. Sorenson says he has enjoyed working with all his current sponsors in 2009 and a few would like to stay with him.(9-10-2009)

Sorenson is out of the 43, but with that team gone, there's still 5 teams, which is more than the max of 4. Who else will get cut? Menard certainly won't, unless he takes his dad's sponsorship to another team. Allmendinger & Sadler have both been mediocre at best this year, but I imagine Allmendinger will be out (and hopefully back in open wheel) unless he can find a full time sponsor.

There are only 4, Allmendinger will move to the 43. This is what the line-up will look like presumably.
9-Kasey Kahne (Budweiser)
19-Elliot Sadler (Best Buy)
43-A.J. Allmendinger (I'm guessing it will be a similar situation to this year with several short term deals)
98-Paul Menard (Menard's duh!)

The 96 is still a HOF Racing car they just raced under Yates for this year(basically the same thing JTG did with MWR this year with the 47). Next year they are planning on partnering with another team.

Wow, how unexpected. So that now just leaves Penske as the sole remaining best hope for Dodge.

Gillet Evernham merged with Petty Enterprises at the beginning of this year. They ran under Richard Petty Motorsports.

Oh ok

I thought HOF had actually become part of Yates racing

Here's something Ironic: Carl's Main Sponsor is Aflac in Cup and lets look at this interesting timeline:

Aaron's 499: Gets turned into the wall on the last lap

Carfax 250: Carl runs into Trevor Bayne and goes into the wall

Montreal 200: Goes into the wall on the warmup lap

Last wendesday: He tears up his right foot

Its a good thing he's got Aflac :D

Awesome race by Carl. He's awesome.

Now I'm starting to get fed up with the guys in the booth. At the start of the race they were talking about how Carl shouldn't race in the nationwide because of his foot and how Cup is more important and "it's not like he's going to win the championship". WHAT?! So he should just give up because he's not going to win? THERE'S 8 RACES TO GO STILL. What idiots.

Question for you Nascar fans, I know like many other series there are tracks that are really good then there are those that aren't and of course the ones in the middle.

I am going to New Hampshire next weekend for the race there, mainly to drink, but I am going to the race, so is this one any good usually?

It's a very flat track which makes passing really hard. So you'll will see quite a few bumping and banging to get that position. Especially with the double file restarts, expect some taps being made at the middle through the exits of the corners.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series about to make some rounds around lovely Gateway International Raceway for the Copart 200. And later tonight, it's sink or swim for the ones nearest to 12th in the Cup points standings. Who'll sink? Who'll swim? We'll see after tonight.

Okay then guys, time to reach up and pull those belts tight one more time as DW would say.

All fingers crossed that JPM and Mark Martin gets into the Chase!

Wow, those last few laps were close with Vicker and Busch. I was pulling for Vickers but I kind of like them both. I knew this race was going to be a good one but not going to be this close.

Hell Yeah!!! Vickers, Martin & Montoya are in the chase!!!! Interestingly enough, there are also three teams in the chase that have a chance at a championship here and in another series.

Chase Standings:

  1. Mark Martin - 5040 pts (4 wins)
  2. Tony Stweart - 5030 pts (3 wins)
  3. Jimmie Johnson - 5030 pts (3 wins)
  4. Denny Hamlin - 5020 pts (2 wins)
  5. Kasey Kahne - 5020 pts (2 wins)
  6. Jeff Gordon - 5010 pts (1 win)
  7. Kurt Busch - 5010 pts (1 win)
  8. Brian Vickers - 5010 pts (1 win)
  9. Carl Edwards - 5000 pts (0 wins)
  10. Ryan Newman - 5000 pts (0 wins)
  11. Juan Pablo Montoya - 5000 pts (0 wins)
  12. Greg Biffle - 5000 pts (0 wins)

I think a Hendrick powered car will win the chase, I guess it's not that big of a gues though since they amount to half the chase.

Actually its only five Hendrick powered cars in comparison to the other seven cars so they don't exactly make up half the chase. I wouldn't count out the others, especially with consistantcy from the 42 and the 83.

Congratulations to all who made the Chase. How demoralizing must it be when KURT Busch makes it into the Chase, whereas KYLE Busch fails to? Something tells me Jimmie Johnson will win it all again or at least contend to win it all. Now if it were all up to me, I'd want to see Jeff Gordon rediscover himself and get his 5th Cup championship and first championship in the Chase era.

I think the 42 is the only non-hendrick car with a shot

GET IN MONTOYA IN THE CHASE!!! Man that was a tense race! Good job by Denny for the win, Vickers did an awesome job too.

The bad news to come out of the Chase, Kyle Busch not getting in.

The good news to come out of the Chase, Kyle Busch not getting in.

lol, LMFAO, that should bring that pretty boy poser down a few notches and he instantly reached for the excuses book, blaming Tony Stewart at Daytona for not getting in.

Here's a great suggestion for Master Busch, go to the nearest hardware store in Vegas, find a mirror and go look in it!

When did he do that? All the interviews immediately after the race he didn't blame anyone (quite a surprise) and infact didn't seem as much a spoiled brat like he usually is. One interesting he did say was "The Good Lord put me in this predicament for a reason".

Kyle Busch probably would have gotten in if the Chase for the Cup had a (don't try to laugh) at-large bids to compete for the Sprint Cup title. Like if 12 got in and about 4 or 8 had at-large bids like you see with March Madness in college basketball. Yeah, imagine a "committee" deciding on who else should compete for the Cup!

Just providing a little lighthearted humor.

I wouldn't count out Hamlin or Vickers. They, and Montoya are sleepers and have momentum on their side

He also added that him missing the chase wasn't a bad race or two, it was a a bunch of bad races.

Like inviting in race winners who aren't in the top-12? Which would put Kenseth and Busch in the chase if something like that was used.
