GO Mark Martin.

I'd sign Danica, but 1 year or 2 at a time until she is an established NASCAR driver.
That would have to be in the Nationwide series.
After some wins in the Nationwide series sign here up for 3 years in the Sprint Cup series.
No wins in the lower series and she stays there.

I'm sure there is a team out there that would sign her, if only for a partial season.
Plenty of teams have multiple drivers in the Nationwide series.

It's up to her now.

If you don't know, here is the qualifying times and speeds for Phoenix Sprint Race tonight

Anyone really stand out? Suppose Casey Mears in 9th and Michael Waltrip in 11th?

Well, NASCAR is now boring. I hope something good happens at Homestead or I'm going to rethink watching it.

Congrats, I guess, to the 48 team on their 4th Championship in a row. :indiff:

I've already decided that I'm not going to watch the last race.

In other words...
The dies have been cast and they've come up 'snake-eyes'?

So, there will be yet another meaningless race at Homestead.

NASCAR needs to shorten the season so more races have a bigger impact.

They were discussing on Inside NASCAR the other day about a shorter season and shorter races. They absolutely need to do both.

Basically, Mark Martin will need to win while Jimmie Johnson has to finish 25th or 27th or worse for Mark Martin to win the title. Sky-high challenge, but not impossible. You know, I'm really sad thinking about Mark Martin. This is one of NASCAR's best racers. He's never won Daytona, and he's never won the Cup championship. He is truly NASCAR's tragic hero. This season seems unlikely he'll win his first championship, but this man has busted his ass for years to try to prove he's one of the finest in the sport. Even when I first started watching NASCAR in 1999, he was a great racer with that #6 Valvoline Ford Taurus. With the results from Phoenix, Jeff Gordon's chances of getting title #5 are over.

All I'm saying is... Mark Martin is a driver I greatly respect. It would be tough for him to try to win the Sprint Cup this season, but I just think that for his talent and his skill, he should be a multiple-time champion. Barring any conspiracy or change of fortune, Jimmie Johnson has an easy, but not guaranteed, road to his 4th straight championship. South Florida, you're either getting a 4th championship from Jimmie Johnson or an upset by Mark Martin.

So that's my final thought to all of you- Mark Martin getting the championship will be tough, but NOT impossible. Likewise, Jimmie Johnson's road to #4 is very likely, but not guaranteed. We'll see what happens in South Florida this coming weekend...

I'm guessing that this week will be filled with NASCAR interviews and press releases assuring people that 4 in a row wouldn't be bad for the sport, even though it goes against the very idea of the Chase and ratings have been slumping for the past couple of years as the actual championship gets more and more predictable.

Jimmy's just going to cruise the next race and take it, so for me it's over. Sure something could happen, but chances are VERY slim that it will. It's over.

Well said John.👍
I'm pulling for Mark Martin myself.I would love to see Jimmie Johnson puff an engine, lose a tire and go 2-3 laps down, ultimately losing his championship hopes to MM.

Yes, that would be perfect. Whats Mark's championship record? Isn't it like 3 2nd places, 3 3rd places and 4 4th places? I know it was something like that. I mean he has to win it atleast once.

*sigh* three championships have already been decided. NASCAR is officially becoming a bore. This is why people should watch ARCA instead, they actually have races that are exciting to watch and the championships aren't over until the last lap.

I didn't even bother watching the race because I knew that Johnson would most likely out perform Martin and regain all the points he lost at Texas.

The chase has become an absolute joke, people (well at least me) are only really watching it just to see JJ win his 4th straight. The races have been mediocre and the standings haven't really changed since Kansas.

NASCAR needs to get rid of their outdated points system, structure it in a way that actually rewards drivers for winning and not consistency.

Johnson has won 7 races this season, thats more than anyone else, a points system that further rewarded wins would still play into the 48's hands.. it might shuffle the pack behind him, but consider people like JPM, who has driven out of skin in the chase and performed far better than most expected this year, he has Zero wins... but does anybody think he doesn't deserve his chase spot?

If it were up to me, I'd start the winners points at 50, and they would count down through 25th, where 26th-43rd would end up with zero points. The bonus points for leading could stay the same.

How about a special points system just for the 48 team? Half points maybe? Either that or Martin, Gordon and Kurt Busch need to take the 48 car down as soon as they can. I dont want that 48 car to win again!

Congrats for Edwards for this weekends win 👍

My main issue with the final races is the fact that the Cup Points leader just cruises around, everyone giving him a wide berth lest they "destroy destiny" or something of the sort. I don't want the Chase Protection Program, I want people to be fighting no matter what.

Cheers,
Jetboy

Ok, here's what we need to do:

A. Get the FIA to buy out NASCAR.
B. Paint every car except Johnson's red and put a huge Ferrari logo on the hood.
C. Sit back and watch :D

Our only hope for Homestead is for this to happen to Johnson:

Or this:

Or maybe even this:

I know they're all tire failures, but everyone should get my point. Unless of course Nascar & Goodyear issue Johnson his indestructable set of tires and special rules like they do every week. :grumpy:

If you don't count the crash at Texas Jimmie Johnson has an average finish of 3rd in this year's chase

Isn't that a little too good for this day and age and how competitive it is?

Agreed 100% Earth. 👍 Even when Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon were dominant in the 90's, they made mistakes and had part failures just like all teams do. Jimmie Johnson on the other hand seems to have a seemingly indestructible car; his pit crew never makes mistakes, etc. It makes you wonder if there isn't some kind of "fixing" going on behind closed doors....

It's called "Chad Knauss",always in the gray area of racing. How many times has Knauss been popped for something illegal ? ... several

It helps when you have a guy like Hendrick who isn't afraid to throw around money to get the best at every possible position.

If they are fixing it, they are doing a horrible job at it. As the ratings show, dominance reaks havoc on ratings.

It also helps to have five teams at your disposal for testing and info garnering.

Very true. Think of the developement/ practice time at their disposal. It's reasons like this Alan Kulwiki was the last independant to win a championship. In 1992. 👎
