and there are rumours that that could increase if RBR turn to Hendrick power next years

Johnson has won 7 races this season, thats more than anyone else, a points system that further rewarded wins would still play into the 48's hands.. it might shuffle the pack behind him, but consider people like JPM, who has driven out of skin in the chase and performed far better than most expected this year, he has Zero wins... but does anybody think he doesn't deserve his chase spot?

In my opinion, I think in todays age of NASCAR, you have to win races to contend for championships. Consistency won't get you a damn thing. Look at Montoya for example, runs consistently in the top-5/10 every race, but he hasn't been able to compete with the 48 & 5 because he hasn't won races.

but you havbe to agree that he has got to a point now where he is consisently challenging for victories. Should have wonm in Indy, maybe he should have won in Loudon, Atlanta and Pocono.

I look for him to be a serious challenger next year

But did he win? No he did not. He can run 2nd, 3rd, 4th all season, but as long as the guys in front of him are Johnson, Martin, Gordon, Stewart, etc., he won't win the title.

I agre he didn't win but that team has come on leaps and bounds this season

I'll agree with you, the Earnhardt/Ganassi merger has helped out the 42 immensely, but the 1 team is still a top-15 contender at best.

Speaking of the #1:

Jamie McMurray has been tabbed by Earnhardt Ganassi Racing to drive the No. 1 Chevrolet in 2010, the team announced on Wednesday.

The EGR opening came about when Martin Truex Jr. signed with Michael Waltrip Racing on July 7.

McMurray, who will team with Juan Montoya under the EGR banner, said he is looking forward to reuniting with some familiar faces.

"I am really excited about this opportunity with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, as I think Juan Pablo and Martin have shown this season [that] their equipment is as good as anyone's in the garage. I am really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of their cars and once again competing for a NASCAR championship.

"It will also be fun to work with some of the people that I worked with when I was there a few years ago."

McMurray -- reunited with team owner Chip Ganassi for whom he drove from 2003-05 -- has driven the past four seasons for Roush Fenway Racing. However, because of the impending four-car limit imposed by NASCAR for the 2010 season McMurray was free to negotiate with other teams.

Roush Fenway Racing will have Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards and David Ragan in its stable next season.

"To be able to sign a veteran driver with the talent and experience of Jamie was important to us," Ganassi said. "We know Jamie and understand what makes him tick as a driver. We had a lot of success with Jamie in the early part of his career and are looking for more of the same.

"We also think he will be a tremendous compliment to Juan Pablo Montoya as well. The duo of McMurray and Montoya creates a very formidable team as we look to continue the momentum that has been established this year in our chase for the championship."

Bass Pro Shops / Tracker Boats will return as sponsor of the No. 1 Chevy.

McMurray drove the 2002 season's final six races following neck injury to Sterling Marlin that ended the veteran's challenge for the championship after Kansas race in September.

McMurray, who has three wins in 257 starts in the Cup Series, made his series debut on Oct. 6, 2002, at Talladega, then won his second start a week later at Charlotte by holding off Bobby Labonte on the final lap.

McMurray's most recent victory came Nov. 1 at Talladega. He has 30 top-five finishes and 80 top-10s in the Cup Series. His best finish in the point standings is 11th in 2004.

McMurray's victory in the Nationwide Series on Oct. 26, 2002, gave him the distinction of becoming the 100th driver to win a series race.

There are worse drivers in NASCAR than MTJ

This guy comes to mind:

Every race I see this guy in, no matter what series or what track, he is always in the wall.

I can go one better:

Average start was 38.5 and average finish wa 34.7, terrible

Who was the woman about six years ago in the main cup who had a similar record? I want to say it was some name with an 'S'. Shanda, Shannon, Susan..? Who was that.

Cheers,
Jetboy

💡 Yes, you are right. Dreadful performances. I hope Danica can rectify women in Nascar.

So, how long until BPS tries to get out of the deal?

Homestead '10

Maybe because Martin Truex isn't as good a racer as JPM, no denying that really.

Truex is a good driver, but I think he was just dying to get out of EGR with all the turmoil that surrounded that team before, during and shortly Dale Jr. left.

Only because he has minimal experience, give the kid some time, he'll learn.

Who is that? He looks fairly young so I wouldn't expect him to be amazing, plus he looks a nice person.

Ah ok, the name rings a bell. I didn't really follow the Nationwide as much.

He is driving for RCR next year in the Nationwide series. He is sort of like Paul Menard in that one of his main draws is the fact his father owns a major business, in this case his father is co-founder of Zaxby's.

Ha Paul Menard, I still don't remember when he started racing in the Sprint Cup. He just showed up one day and was racing for DEI and Yates.

He's another one, he's only in the deal because his father is sponsoring him

Whoa, someone took what I said the wrong way, I think Martin Truex Jr. is a good driver, he made the chase in 07, and is a former Nationwide Champion(05 if I am right), but I am saying that Juan Pablo Montoya is undoubtedly leaps and bounds a better driver than him.

TS
Truex won the Nationwide titles in 04 and 05.
I will bet that he is probably like a Ron Hornaday of the Nationwide series, he can win there but he can't move up because of how the cars handle, and getting off topic here, we need to bring IROC back.

Iroc for sure, such a great series.

He can win in the Cup series(as he has done before), it's just that he has always had to play second fiddle for all but one year in the Cup series(2008 where he managed to finish 15th in the standings despite having lackluster equipment). I am interested to see how he does with MWR.

As for the IROC series, it can stay away unless they return to how it was at the beginning. Its last few seasons were basically NASCAR drivers racing on ovals against a couple drivers from different series'.

I miss it, I just found out last week that they went bankrupt, and after they had just banked a title sponsor, that series was great, I just wish that there could have been more stops or diversity in the tracks, but near perfect, maybe Tony Stewart could do a Prelude to the Dream Series on multiple tracks.
