So the Raptors got Carroll and let Amir Johnson go to Boston (Amir was a class act, one of those real "soul of the team" guys). Still concerned that the Raptors only Power Forward at the moment is Patrick Patterson, maybe they can get David West or something, but the news stories keep saying Dallas and Toronto are fighting for Wes Matthews. Not sure how this is going to work out when the dust settles for the Raptors.:boggled: Right now we have a rookie reserve point guard, a single power forward who is debatable whether he's good enough to be a starter and no reserve centres. (Sign Aron Baynes Ujiri, do it! Do it! Do it!)

BTW, where the hell did Chandler to the Suns come from? What are Phoenix aiming to do?

What about Tyler Hansbrough or whoever it was that went from Indiana to the Raptors, or is he just a big body

PHX is using Chandler to recruit Aldridge, because apparently both Chandler and Aldridge would like to play with each other. And so far, according to Woj, it seems to have worked because PHX is no longer a dark horse option, apparently they're on the same level as the Spurs, which I'm still pinching myself over because that can't be true.

And we got Chandler because no one on last year's team could defend in the post or rebound, so even if Aldridge doesn't sign it's still nice.

EDIT: The Kings are interested in signing Rondo and Ellis. Did they not see the disaster that happened when the Mavericks tried that?

Ugh, I mean Asik's okay but I would have preferred to see them try and get Robin Lopez back or something.

Demarcus Cousins is making the same money as Asik except he only has a 4 year contract, let that sink in for a second...

60 million for 10 points 10 rebounds, dayum man

Thanks to r/nba for the chart I stole, here's Day 2 of free agency:

Also:
- The Suns broke up the Morris twins, sending Marcus, Reggie Bullock, and Danny Granger to Detroit in a salary dump
-Robin Lopez will sign with the Knicks, only if DeAndre Jordan doesn't go there, apparently.
-Jared Dudley has been traded to the Wizards.
-LaMarcus Aldridge still hasn't made choice between Spurs, Suns, or Mavs, instead chooses to have dinner with Pat Riley.

Wow wouldn't expect Baynes to leave the Spurs unless no cap space.

Yeah, the Spurs chose not to place a qualifying offer on him. Obviously trying to keep free as much cap space as they can in anticipation of landing LMA.
Terrible contract for Pellies either way

You would have thought that they would have learnt from the Eric Gordon contract.

I think Robin had a tough year with injury, but still surprised to see him go. @a6m5, I know you guys are still trying to retain LMA to stay with Lillard, but if FO is blowing the team up, what exactly do they plan to surround the 2 with? We both know LMA doesn't want to stay with the team in a rebuild whilst Lillard starts to hit his prime.

If you think about it, next year the cap will be something like $90-100 million, and it suddenly doesn't look as bad. Just imagine if he'd been signed, say, next year. Dude might've been paid $20 million a year .

That's true, just surprising that Asik was overpaid whilst at the Rockets (even though he just averaged a double-double) and now the Pellies overpay him  I just thought maybe they could trim his contract and give him 5 yrs/50mil or something.

He's an unrestricted free agent still at this point.

That makes more sense, though without Aldridge I don't think the Suns will be contending.

I'd rather not....I had no idea he's on the same money as Boogie Cousins? What?

Baynes to join the Pistons on a reported three year deal.

A multiyear deal for Baynes is good news, dude got paid.👍 Hopefully the Pistons will always give him good minutes as well.

Wow wouldn't expect Baynes to leave the Spurs unless no cap space.

Yeah it's also a shame he's not on a contender any more either, but he may have a chance to make a bigger impact which is good in its own way.

We can get Wesley & DeAndre Jordan to commit & we will be a contender, oh, wait. No, I read that Blazers didn't offer Wesley a contract. After the Playoffs, there was no talk about Blazers plan to retain Wesley, or Wesley wanting to say in Portland. It was really odd, as Wesley was tight with both the team & the city. I think after the achilles injury, perhaps there was an understanding between Wes & the team that the Blazers were not going to attempt to fight for his services. :indiff: I gotta be honest though, while Wesley is a warrior both mentally & physically, Mavs are taking a big risk with this contract. I do wish Wes nothing but the best. He plays hard for his team, and to win. Good basketball I.Q., well-spoken, and good person off the court. I think I read that Dominique Wilkin's the only star player to comeback from the achilles injury without drop in minutes or production? If that's true, I hope Wesley is the second.

I'm no fan of DeAndre, but I'm glad you guys finally won a prize. While I thought the Mavs would have far better chance than the likes of Miami/Phoenix/LAL to land LaMarcus, I thought it was sort of crafty opting to shift gear & actually landing one of the league's elites like Jordan. I hope Coach Carlisle will get him with the program. 👍

Now that the Blazers failed to bring in any notable free agents, I think it will be very tough to bring back LaMarcus, though the rumor of Lillard flying down to L.A. to convince LaMarcus to stay could only help. If he does choose to stay & I hope he does, I think Olshey would have to give L-Train his word that we will get him help via trades. Or Mardc Gasol.

Recently, it's been brought up that the last time Blazers had deep roster was during the Trail Gangsta era(some called it Jail Blazers, but I like the other one better lol). While we did recruit Brian Grant in FA(elite player at the time), almost all of them were brought in in trades. After our FA record this off-season, I think even the new(er) GM Olshey understands that he is not in Los Angeles anymore. Trade's the only way to build this team now.

P.S. I wish we kept RoLo, but not for what the Knicks paid.

Dallas just got a heck of a lot better picking up DeAndre Jordan. Could the 2015 Dallas Mavericks be a team that could win it all like the 2011 Dallas Mavericks? Maybe... maybe not. DeAndre Jordan is still a great talent.

Mavericks will be an interesting team this season! I'm disappointed with the Raptors so far though, Carroll is hardly a game changer, they still need better depth at the point guard position (unless rookie Delon Wright is awesome) and they still have exactly zero depth in the front court. Behind Valanciunas and Patrick Patterson there are no bigs, none, that I know of. Unless Stiemsma is still on the roster.

If I was LMA, I'd sign with the Mavs if it weren't for the fact that Dirk plays the same position. DeAndre is much better than Chandler and who knows how much longer Duncan will last playing center. Also, Wes/Parsons/LMA/Jordan would've been a good core.

To old people like me, I think Timmy/LaMarcus feels familiar to when Duncan entered the league, teaming up with the Admiral(David Robinson). Robinson was close to retiring, and Timmy was the future.

LaMarcus Update: So rumor yesterday was that Lillard was flying down to L.A. to meet with LaMarcus, convince him to stay....... News today is that Lillard actually phoned LaMarcus(from L.A. or Portland, I don't know), and Lillard would not say which way LaMarcus is leaning, except something about LaMarcus has to make decision for himself, or something like that. Yet another sign that LaMarcus is leaving Portland. Screw you L-Train. I love you, but screw you man. :(

Good god the Kings are gonna be so dysfunctional this year. They should sign J.R Smith and Josh Smith, and it'd approach sitcom levels of bad.

The Spurs have got to make a big impact on LMA. They're starting to lose some decent guys for his services.

Nah. 2011 isn't what I would call a lucky win, but also not a full, built for a championship roster, either. That was Dirk just going God-mode through Portland, LA, OKC, & Miami. That team played with so much heart knowing it was now or never; it's the only thing that got them to multiple comeback victories in those Playoffs.

Dirk is willing to play off the bench, so LMA would definitely take over as the face of the franchise. I don't think DeAndre makes much of a difference since apparently LMA would love to play with Chandler, so losing him is what may have shut the door (after all, it's also what got the Suns in the race).

I have a feeling the team is looking for its point guard now. Word is Jefferson & JJ are looking to be resigned, & I imagine so will Charlie V. Stoudemire wants a starting role, so he's gone.

Not long before Summer League starts, and damn it I want NBA Game Time to work properly and stream the video smoothly so I can watch it but I don't think that will happen.

Edit: Video was not allowed, but I'm reading on the interwebs that Ben Simmons played James Harden 1-on-1 at the Nike Basketball Academy and it was a draw. A draw! Kid is 18 and may already be on a similar level to today's superstars? Surely Harden was taking it easy or something. Anyways, found out Simmons will be playing a game in Brisbane as part of LSU's preseason tour of Australia, but it's on a Tuesday night 👎. My own games are Tuesdays, though I'm thinking for the sake of seeing Simmons I may have to skip my game.

In case you missed it, LaMarcus Aldridge has signed with the Spurs.
I ain't even mad, I'm just happy Phoenix even got that far, considering they were barely even an option at first.

Figured he would go to San Antonio. Talk about Plug n Play when Tim Duncan retires.

So LaMarcus Aldrige coming back home to Texas and will be rocking black and silver. He'll make any team better... not to say San Antonio is some weak sauce team, because they clearly aren't. All this means for my Rockets is that we'll have to deal with him more often here in the super-tough Southwest Division. Have to wonder how our a6m5 feels about this move, as both a Trail Blazers and Spurs fan.

Besides the LaMarcus Aldridge news, NBA Summer League games are underway. It will be our chance to see how some of the newer players try to get adjusted to their new teams and to various other NBA players. Be sure to check in every now and then to see how some of the rookies and such try to groom themselves for the grind of an NBA season.

a6m5 is now an arena football fan.

Nothing like getting stabbed in the back by your favorite player. :(
