According to ESPN's Bottom Line, Dallas picked up JaVale McGee for a two-year minimum deal. Anyone who has followed this guy knows he's a knucklehead- but a lovable one. He's an institution on "Shaqtin' a Fool." Then again, I'm sure a team that needs a Center probably would have liked McGee so much as to sign him. So yeah- Dallas got JaVale McGee.

Haha. I dunno, man. I think Carlisle is a glutton for punishment. It's too bad about JaVale, though. I think if he had any kind of basketball mind he could have been an all-time great.

I read on ESPN's Bottom Line that Greg Oden will be playing in China now. I extend my best wishes to Mr. Greg Oden playing 'ball in China.

I saw Ben Simmons play in person tonight. He definitely has huge amounts of raw talent, though there's no denying he lacks polish. Still, he was a major handful in the open floor and could seemingly get to the hoop at will. On one fast break in particular he spun around his initial defender then threw down a tomahawk slam on the help defender. These were grown men opposition as well, a couple of them play in the NBL (Aussie pro league).

How old is Simmons, is he a prospect hoping to get to the NBA or someone who already plays NBL?

He is 18yrs old, he's an Aussie, and he's just come out of playing American high school basketball rated as the number one prospect in USA. He'll be playing college this season. He's a 6'10 point-forward with a LOT of natural ability.

Ohhh I think I've heard of him, cheers :D

Sad to report that Darryl Dawkins died at age 58 from a heart attack. Spare some thoughts and prayers for "Chocolate Thunder" and all whom have known and loved him. How will you remember Chocolate Thunder?

On a lighter note, James Harden celebrated his 26th birthday, so happy belated birthday to the fellow I call "Big Nasty Beard." I mention in the NHL thread to go watch some past games to get excited for the upcoming season. I recommend the same here. If you have NBA TV, go see some of those old games they show. Just get to see some of the past names and games, including some you may have never heard of.

You are what your record is. And if your record stinks, so do you... and you miss the Playoffs. A recent move to base playoff teams on record rather than winning your Division or anything is no longer going to be the case apparently. What do you make of this move or this suggestion to set up the NBA Playoff brackets?

Personally, I love this decision, it's one step forward in the right direction. I think everyone realized how it doesn't work anymore, as the Trailblazers were the 4th seed when they really should have been 6th.

Now next step - Top 16 teams regardless of conference.

More related to video games, but this was too embarrassing not to share:

Way to F up your return to NBA basketball, EA. I guess the only way you would remain in a sport is to get an exclusive license...

From what I heard, Devin Booker and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson aren't even in the game.
It's not like they're first round picks or anything.

There are plenty others as well, you should see Luke Babbit in the game! Apparently he changed the colour of his skin?

I still remember NBA Live 2010, Patty Mills was a white guy with grey hair who could dunk like DeRozan.

Guess who's back?

Back again,

Metta's back

Tell a friend..

(Not gonna lie, that song became stuck in my head when I read this. I kinda hope Kobe goes mad from being around Metta and Swaggy P all day because it'd be hilarious.)

Best wishes to Jason Richardson in his retirement. He played for 13 seasons for five different teams.

NBA Media Day is told to happen this coming Monday. So we may get to hear some colorful commentary and thoughts on the upcoming season. The first of the Preseason games will come around next thing you know it. Be sure to psych yourself up for the new season any way you can if you're an NBA fan. You may even watch some old games on TV. For example, I'm watching bits of when the New York Knicks played at the Chicago Bulls on Christmas Day in 1994. This makes me happy as a Rockets fan because we all know who won the championship in the 1993-1994 and 1994-1995 seasons. :D

It will be time to hoop it up again for a new season, and it will probably come sooner than you know it.

Anthony Bennett is reportedly about to sign with Toronto. Everyone said it was unlikely though still not a huge surprise. I'm happy, he could still become a solid bench player, and Toronto doesn't have much depth at Power Forward. Patterson is barely a starter and Luis Scola is really old, even if he as been really durable over the years.

With the start of training camps all over the league today, it's safe to say the NBA season has officially started.

Also, Derrick Rose has suffered an orbital fracture and is out indefinitely until surgery.

I legitimately feel bad for him, he can't catch a break.

Iman Shumpert is also out some 12-14 weeks for some hand fracture or something.

THIS JUST IN...

...according to a Breaking News update on ESPN's Bottom Line, I read D. Rose can resume basketball activities two weeks after he has his surgery. Pretty sure he won't have to wait too long to get back to basketball.

NBA pre-season officially kicked off today! Everyone exhale, NBA basketball is back baby! Another couple days though before the Heat and Raptors play, the first games I want to watch.

Do you actually see the Toronto Raptors maybe as Eastern Conference Champions? Or do they need more pieces (and maybe some luck) to be a serious contender?

They don't have the talent to take down the Cavs. Just making the Conference Finals would be huge for Toronto, an overachievement.
