A buddy of mine is a technician at the local Mazda dealer, and most of what I know about those engines comes from him. The stories of drowning them in auto tranny fluid to get them to start back up are hilarious. A couple times the guys had to stop working for like 10 minutes because there was so much smoke and no wind to blow it away. But it ran like a champ once they got it cleaned out.

Haha, drown the car in auto tranny fluid?! You're only suposed to put in about a teaspoon..... And yes, as soon as the rotary defloods white smoke will just pour out the exhaust for a bit, looks hilarious. If I can't get her deflooded my local mazda dealer has a rotary technician, so I've got a back up plan, but damn I want to be a rotary technician too.

I can't believe you're in Guelph, thats only 40 mins from me! Small world...

Nice choice for a first car, and definitely beats what I ended up with as a first (although, I'll bet that I paid far less for mine...$1! Woop woop!). Congrats, and keep us posted on her progress. 👍

Awesome, Toronto I'm guessing?

Nice, my youngest brother has had an Turbo S4 RX-7 (1986, same year he was born) for the past four or so years. Pretty much nothing done to it, and it hasn't needed barely any repairs which is surprising.

We've never actually raced (street racing = bad) but we think that his RX-7 and my Skyline are pretty evenly matched. He has less horsepower, but is much lighter and vice versa for my GTS-4.

Personally i prefer the looks of the S4 over the S5, i don't actually like the rear lights as much on the 5.

Some pics of his car.

Silver Skyline was later crashed and is now mostly stripped. :(

Rear spoiler is now off because the holes it was bolted into were starting to rust i think (he lived pretty much across the road from the beach for months and didn't have a carport or car cover).

This is the newest pic i have of it, nothing much has changed once again except it is despoilered.

I'll show him this topic anyway, he needs motivation to get his machine looking tidy again (those pics actually make it look a little better than it is!). :)

Nope, think farther south. I'm basically in the middle of Cambridge, Brantford and Ancastor. If your ever in the area and feel like cruisin let me know, me and the G are always up for it. 👍

Deflooding an FC is a piece of cake, and if this is anything like the ones I've got experience, you'll be doing it pretty regularly.

Just pull the ignition fuse, and crank the engine for a few seconds, then reconnect and start the car.

Right on man, once I get the car deflooded, and insured we should cruise, ever been to Guelph btw? I got a buddy who'd also come, hell if you want I can bring along PublicSecrecy if you remember him haha.

Yep the EGI fuse, closest to the engine. I've just been busy for the past few days because of work. Maybe when I get home today I'll give her a go, at a family friend's house at the moment.

Sweet 7, I'm just not too fond of the wing to be honest. Otherwise I wish mine looked like that, need a TII hood badly haha. There's also a house near me that has an R32 Skyline that looks newly imported/bought. I feel like taking the 7 to his house and ask the owner to do a photoshoot hehe.

Also, there's someone in Cambridge selling custom plates that read "NO PSTNS". When my next paycheck comes in next week I think I'm going to buy those plates!

You guys think a 5 lug swap is worth it? I just love the looks of the BBS' that come on the vert 7's.
Once again GTP, thanks for the appreciation!

Yeah, I've been to Guelph a couple of times (I know a couple of dirty girls up in Fergus that we've hung out with on occassion) so I know the area some what. Maybe we could post something up in the local meet section and see who else might be interested and maybe plan something good (1st annual Southern Ontario car meet maybe?!). We can't let those UK/SanFran guys have all the fun.

I will be honest: As soon as I saw the picture load, I thought "Idiot." Upon further reading, though, I read that the car is not the ticking time bomb that is the turbocharged FCs, so it should actually last you a good long time without many foibles. A good car to learn advanced driving techniques, as the handling limits are higher than the engine can get to. Good buy, I say. 👍 I dream to some day own an RX-7 myself, though an FB in my case.

Haha, thanks.

An update about the car. I had some friends over one night and one of them decided we should try changing the battery, I trusted this guy he seemed to know his stuff but the other battery I had was slightly more powerful then what was already in the 7. So he's putting the battery in while I'm sitting in the car and he connects the negative first and sparks just shot from the negative connection and blew the main fuse, and a bunch of other fuses in the fuse box. After replacing the main fuse and the other blown fuses I put back in the old battery hoping that everything would be fine again but nope. Nothing worked none of the accessories worked nor did the headlights or tailights. Now I was thinking to myself did my idiot friend just fry the whole electrical system in the 7? I was incredibly worried and pissed. People on RX7club.com told me the car might be dead which got me even more worried. Anyways, I went out anyways and bought new NGK spark plugs from Mazda and a new car battery and some automatic transmission fluid. Put in the new battery and everything was back to normal to my relief, the car was fine. My friend and I then took out the old spark plugs and put in some ATF fluid into the plug holes and after a few tries the car unflooded and started! It took 15 minutes to unflood the 7! I'm so damn happy now! Mind you the car doesn't really have a proper exhaust at the moment. It is straight piped with not cats and has two cherry bombs so you can imagine how loud this thing is. But man am I excited, next is to get the car insured and finally drive my baby around!

Awesome that you got it up and running so easily. I've done a lot of RX7 work, that's not always the case...

Haha, catless straightpipes on an N/A FC, heck yeah! Let me guess... it sounds exactly like a WWII Fighter Plane, doesn't it?

ND4SPD: get a loudspeaker with a looping recording of a few brownings firing. That'll scare the crud out of the friendly Guelph commuters. :D

👍

I'm glad all turned out well with the FC. My SC300 didn't fare too well when it endured electrical trouble. :(

Haha it does at idle! Sounds pretty pissed off!
Sound clip plz!
Soon, when I get her insured and plated.
 How the hell is it gonna pass emissions?
Thats the thing, I'm going to hunt down a stock exhaust system to pass emissions then try and find a decent exhaust. Right now I'm looking for a Racing Beat exhaust for the 7.

Haha, sounds like a fun idea!

Is it just me or is the paint in the original pics total dullsville? Jeff, you need to marry your car to some Zaino or something. Otherwise, mega congrats, dude.

Haha ya, the car is dirty, plus the added fact that Mazda's paint in the 80's was notorious for fading. Not to mention the front bumper is wetsanded down from old scratches. Anyways, this Friday I get off of work early and the weather is supposed to be good for a change. I'll give her a good washing/waxing and hopefully some newer better pics/maybe a soundclip aswell.

Did I mention that this car likes to backfire? Loudly?

Err sorry about the double post, it's not letting me edit my post atm anyways I got a sound clip/video of the car running. Yes that's PublicSecrecy in the passenger side then getting out to block the view. Anyways the first 4 minutes is the car starting then warming up. I start revving the car at around 4:50sec mark and yes thats backfire haha. And no, I did not hit the redline in the video, I only went about 6500rpm.

It sounds so cool, but what's wrong with hitting the redline? It's to keep you from blowing your engine, not an indication of when it's going to blow.

If I remember right, an sr20det can endure 18 min or so of bouncing off the redline before blowing, so I'm sure your RX-7 can take a second or so.

Still though, awesome car.👍

True, rotaries love the redline. It revs so smoothly I keep letting off before the redline buzzer starts beeping. Maybe soon I'll have an in car video of me driving the car. (Making the buzzer go off;)👍) Glad you liked the video, I just love how the camera seems to move when I rev the car, cause the cam was about 4 feet away sitting on top of the hood of my Dad's Mazda Tribute. Damnit I need a proper exhaust.

I forgot about the buzzer, can't wait to hear it.

Ya I'd love to get her on the road now but I happen to get off work when insurance companies close for the day and when the ministry of transportation closes as well.

Congrats on the new car, the exhaust sounds pretty cool 👍! Hope you can get it on the road soon.

Nice ride man. Do yourself a favor and get that sticker off the rear window though. No offense but 1) It's just... I dunno, let's just say I'd take it off to distance my self from all the silly ID fanboys around these parts, and 2) Get pulled over for ANY reason and the cop is only going to like you less as he walks towards you.
