NASCAR Ford Aric Almirola.

F1 Green.

I put you down for the 2013 Nascar John.

Tuning

I haven't found any Nascar road race tunes on GTPlanet, just oval ones so if anyone knows of one please post the details or links into this thread. At the moment I'm running my Nascar stock with just tweaks to the transmission, LSD and brake balance.

With the Plymouth XNR I'm running with race soft suspension plus tweaks to transmission, LSD and brake balance - handles nicely.

Test Day this Sunday

Short test races will be at Deep Forest for the Plymouth and Deep Forest Reverse for the Nascar and FGT. Subject to time we will do a couple of short races for each car and finish with a race for the FGT at Matterhorn.

I noticed last night that I had a settings tab labelled as "Indy Road".
I can't remember why I have that, or where I got the tune from but I could look at it today & pass the numbers on.

Edit:
Here are 4 tunes

The one I have applied is this one by @SW__10. His tunes are amazing for TT's, it will just be a question of whether you can use it with tyre wear etc. for the duration of the races.
Also, the TT these were created for was at the Indy Road Course so there was a substantial section of oval involved. They may not be ideally suited to all circuits.

Since it hasn't been picked Sick, can I swap to - 4. Jimmie Johnson 48 Chevrolet 2013

Seems pretty good to me, even on the SM tyres. 👍 In fact this is my favourite of the three cars at the moment.

Done IfAndOr!

For anyone who hasn't tried these cars yet on Sports Medium tyres with these limits (600PP, 705BHP) - I know there is a lot of prejudice on this site and in Motorsport generally about Nascar, but put that aside and try these cars in the game on a good road course - the sensation of power and weight comes across well and they give a great racing experience.

If you haven't signed up for this race series yet, what are you waiting for? Signup now to join Round 0 (Test) today and Round 1 next Sunday.

Plymouth XNR (1m credits or won in game)
No one has gone with yellow so mine is painted in solid Velocity Yellow Tintcoat. Standard/Stock wheels.

Nascar (0.5 m credits)
I'll pick the JP Montoya #42 Chevrolet 2010.
The car in which he took his second and final Cup win with at the Glen in 2010,
leading 74 out of 90 laps. I'm afraid I won't repeat that kind of performance though. :embarrassed:

Formula Gran Turismo (2m Credits)
The only FGT I have left is the kind of sandy beige one.

I will join you today since a few things fell into place this Sunday, but I don't think
there will be many more where I'm able to join.

NASCAR is my favourite motorsport, Sports tyres does sound weird though, I'd prefer some sort of racing tyre like real life but we'll see in a bit

Very nice testing today! I was afraid that the cars would be too powerful for me (I usually drive a 39 BHP Fiat 500 ) but it was actually not too bad.

The XNR is awesome! In driver's eye view it feels like you're flying a Hellcat over the Pacific (if you had a Macintosh computer back in the 1990's you might know the reference). Initially I had too much oversteer, so I fiddled with the suspension and the LSD to try and reduce that a bit, and in the end to worked out well. The car dances around a lot, so it's really fun to drive, especially with no ABS :)

The Nascar was tricky. At first I got distracted by the mirror (driver's eye view again) because in case you didn't notice yet the mirror in cockpit view is in HD! Normally, the mirror displays a low resolution representation of the track and the cars, but not in the Nascar! At leats not in the Ford Nascar, not sure about the others...

Also, it will take some time before I'll be friends with the torque curve. I guess the trick is to try and stay at high RPM for most of the time, to aviod the sharp increase in torque you get when you accelerate from low revs. It caught me off guard quite a few times. And I missed the second race because I had to grab some dinner...

The FGT was awesome! It was tricky to turn around sharp corners though, and later on I realised that it's because of the massive engine braking you get in the lower gears  So here's a Top Gear top tip: Don't coast around corners at low speed and in low gear, make sure you keep a little bit of throttle. To illustrate the effect of the engine braking, here's a fun experiment you can do: Accelerate the car, take it up to, say, fifth gear. Then get off the throttle and quickly shift to 1st gear!

How did you find the tyres on the Nascar during the test round? Congratulations on your great performance in the Formula GT - a bit embarrassed to find that my best lap was seven seconds slower than yours!

I think the parade lap for the first lap with the FGT's single file behind the leader worked well and helped prevent accidents so we will do that from now on with the FGT race and I'll amend the thread accordingly.

Great shots as always IfAndOr!

Here's a couple of shots of the Lister Jaguar Monzanapolis car which with its offset cockpit and straight six engine has some similarities with the Plymouth XNR. The Scottish team Ecurie Ecosse entered three D Type Jaguars in the 1957 Monzanapolis which ran reliably, but were outgunned by the American Indy Specials. To get more speed the Ecurie Ecosee Lister Jaguar Monzanapolis was built:

It felt quite good surprisingly, just very difficult to get any traction from my end. I was thinking something like SS tyres of the rear and SM on the fronts? cause that sort of combination of the FGT's works great.

I'd also like to change from the 2010 model to the 2013 model of #11 Denny Hamlin if that's okay? on the thread it says it's not taken at the moment.

And for the FGT's, thanks haha  that was probably the best race start I've ever had! (in Deep Forest) And sorry about the Matterhorn incident, I watched the replay after and it was quite a late move by me so I should of waited! :banghead:

But had great session with everyone, loved it - lots of fun :)

I have the 2013, bought it yesterday since it wasn't taken!

To give you a greater sense of traction you could, I suppose, try using SH's on the front, but resulting in more understeer.

Deep Forest is quite an uneven track anyway, so it might feel better on a different circuit with the SM's all round. First race is at Monza. A bit less traction required there - maybe. ;)

What? No Nordschleife?? That's a scandal!!!
I'd heard that since it's not very popular and doesn't get used much online, they are removing the Nordschleife from GT7. :sly:

This series sounds amazing, and jocke and ifandor are involved so how can it be bad? So sign me up if I'm allowed..

My XNR is minty turquoise, one of the GT Old Generation colours, can't remember which one. I'll race the 2010 blue Vickers #83 since it doesn't appear that one is taken, and I currently have the yellow FGT but I guess I'll have to sell it and switch to the orange and silver one. Looking forward to joining in on Sunday. It's near-impossible to find NASCAR road racing on GT6.

Oh Hi Blue. 👍
I did think about you when Sick introduced the NASCAR's for this series, but I wasn't sure the time and day would suit you. I should have asked. Anyway glad you're on board.

I'll put a advert/link up in the Comfort Club thread to see if anyone else is interested. Mind you if I attract Dusty no one else has a chance. :)

@Sick Cylinder - I think me and Miki have the same colour FGT (from the test session), red/silver/black. Do you want me to change? (not many colours left).

Done - I have updated the start of the thread to add your car choices. Welcome on board! If you have any friends who might want to race with us please let them know about the series - we are still looking for a couple more drivers.

Exciting News

The following change was made as a result of the Test Races - the Formula GT race will start with a one lap, single file parade behind the pole position car. On completing the last corner of the first lap the lead driver will decide when to accelerate. There will be no overtaking until after the start / finish line has been passed. Please be patient and wait for safe opportunities to pass just as you would if this was a real car with real pain - this is a 12 round championship (with the 3 lowest scores being dropped) so the championship cannot be won in the first couple of laps.

Cu3e (Bergele) has withdrawn from the Formula GT series, but will still be competing in his XNR and Nascar. He has very kindly agreed to drive a pace car to lead us round on lap one of the FGT race.

If Bergele is not present for the FGT race, the pole sitter will lead the field round. If the track is too long for a parade lap I will let you know about alternative arrangements - most likely the pole sitting driver will cruise until a safe point on the track at which point he will accelerate.

The pace car will not act as a safety car - it will pace the first lap only and then retire.

The BMW or the Nissan pace cars with the flashing lights would be good for that. ;)

(Note Sick: The actual race will now be shorter than 15 minutes - not sure if you wanted to extend it to allow for the pace lap.)

Thanks for posting details of the series on some other threads If.

No - we won't be extending the race - the next length option in the game is to go from 15 to 20 minutes and 15 is the best option for keeping the meeting to a reasonable length.

Cu3e (Bergele) will be driving the BMW pace car with the light bar option.

Apologies for errors in posting today - I've lost my reading glasses!
