Very nice testing today! I was afraid that the cars would be too powerful for me (I usually drive a 39 BHP Fiat 500
) but it was actually not too bad.
The XNR is awesome! In driver's eye view it feels like you're flying a Hellcat over the Pacific (if you had a Macintosh computer back in the 1990's you might know
the reference). Initially I had too much oversteer, so I fiddled with the suspension and the LSD to try and reduce that a bit, and in the end to worked out well. The car dances around a lot, so it's really fun to drive, especially with no ABS
The Nascar was tricky. At first I got distracted by the mirror (driver's eye view again) because in case you didn't notice yet the mirror in cockpit view is in HD! Normally, the mirror displays a low resolution representation of the track and the cars, but not in the Nascar! At leats not in the Ford Nascar, not sure about the others...
Also, it will take some time before I'll be friends with the torque curve. I guess the trick is to try and stay at high RPM for most of the time, to aviod the sharp increase in torque you get when you accelerate from low revs. It caught me off guard quite a few times. And I missed the second race because I had to grab some dinner...
The FGT was awesome! It was tricky to turn around sharp corners though, and later on I realised that it's because of the massive engine braking you get in the lower gears
So here's a Top Gear top tip: Don't coast around corners at low speed and in low gear, make sure you keep a little bit of throttle. To illustrate the effect of the engine braking, here's a fun experiment you can do: Accelerate the car, take it up to, say, fifth gear. Then get off the throttle and quickly shift to 1st gear!
