For me, manual transmission is a lot more than just car control, even though that has the biggest effect on the gameplay it self, but, using the latest example of in NFS carbon, it added a level precision and dynacism to how the car behaved, taking corners at higher speeds allowed the auto-clutch to help slow you down too, the feeling of keeping it in a certain gear at certain moments on terrain to keep the engine power peaked, is always one of the biggest things for me too, too many games shift you into the wrong gear automatically when I know for a fact, shifting down and holding a higher RPM on this slanted curve or hill will give me better torgue and better power output than automatic would choose for me.

Among those things, drag racing was always really fun too. Not to mention the simple joys of revving the engine up after an upgrade, hearing that new exhaust sputter and burble and crackle as you rev it hard. Finally, the idea of power control vs traction control, tuning power appropriately may mean at times you need to start in 2nd gear to get the best pull from start, or spooling up the turbos to inject as much charge as possible before taking off, etc.

These are all things NFS:U2/Most Wanted 05 and Carbon allowed for quite deeply within there arcade nature of games. Manual transmission does so much to alter the feel, control, response, power and technique to driving, that I really hope it returns, but so far I think it's obvious it doesn't have it...which again I make the arguement it makes having tuning and performance upgrades less effective, if not almost redundant with how much they are supposed to effect the cars.

Wheels are not needed, but personally, gear options are.

Whoa, let's not jump to conclusions that quickly.

I wouldn't think that a lack of MT would cause such a stir whenever it comes to tuning, as well as performance upgrades. Because I feel that most of the upgrades will centralize on power output, aspiration, dynamics, and handling, like most other racing games.

Not that I'm against MT play, though. I wouldn't mind.

Manual transmission is always more involving and fun, whether it be in real life or in a game. I don't get the need to say its not needed, if its going to bring people more fun.

Also, street drifting might be a big thing in this game, so manual transmission will definitely help with car control and maintaining drifts as well. It should be, atleast.

I agree with the manual transmission option, but I think it is quite redundant in my opinion.
I can't put it into words but for some reason NFS games aren't the kind I would turn manual transmission on. The tachometre/gauges in the HUD over the past games outside of the Shift series did not possess a sort of sense you get when you drive a car with MT unlike other games. I get distracted by the action on the screen because it happens very quickly. I can shift by hearing the engine sound but NFS games require you to focus on what's in front of you for a lot of the time, it's the cops, opponents, traffic, route, and obstacles to look out for.

I don't see it being any harder to know when to shift based off any other game. Going off the last sentence, the same goes for almost anything you race on, minus the cops, but that can just look like another opponent to worry about if anything. I'm sure cars in the game are going to be loud enough for you to know when to shift, anyways.

So...

Changing the exhaust, is actually going to change the sound of the car? Huh...ok, I thought they were just saying this for PR effect but they seem to actually mean it...really interested by this, really want and audio/video example of the different sounds, perhaps this explains why the BRZ sounded so far away from the IRL tuned version.

One of the most interesting images yet?

Da fuzg is going on there? You can remove the logos, at it also seems like some kinda autosculpt thing is indeed present, as to what extent, hmmm. Pretty cool though, must admit.

Also, sthe sweaty car look seems to be contant theme here, oddly.

That's immense if you can remove badges imo, an overlooked detail being attended to shows thought from the developers.

That might just be part of installing the KM4SH kit in game rather than the option to remove badges. Now, if you can remove them as a seperate option, that's pretty cool.

On an unrelated note, I'm still wondering why there are parts listed under Speedhunters like they're their own aftermarket brand. Are they going to take that kind of roll in the game?

EDIT: Wait, if you could select the KM4SH kit in the playable demo, why was it set as "restricted" during the gameplay footage they showed at the conference?

Well sure. The past few NFS games aren't that type. But they are trying to go back to the days of Underground 1 and 2, Most Wanted, and Carbon. Every single one of those games had the choice of MT or AT. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the way this new NFS is looking. It's a big possibility I might buy it regardless but if it gets the option of, it would give me a higher replay value.
