No but the fact they have these other two specifically arcade focused titles coming means it'd be a conflict in interests to have a third. This one has to have somethng going for it and I'm guessing the others will have a fair few of the same cars and we know they'll have bodykits regardless of how tasetfull or not otherwise EA would be stealing sales from their own games and getting no more sales from all three than just the hand held game and only one console one.
Conflicting sales will more than likely not happen with these titles.

NFS: World Online for one isn't a circuit racer. It's an open-world MMORG only available to PC users.
NFS: Nitro is a Nintendo-only title.
NFS: Shift is a console title that will have PSP & Phone versions, and no Wii version (see Nitro).

The only conflicting sells would be Shift for the PC & World Online, but the idea both games are too different, imo.
finall I'm relieved that we're seeing more kitted up cars and the style of the kits is right where it should be so a bug 👍 for that and I'm expecting the kits and paint shop to take up a fair bit of my time.
+1. 👍

The engine sounds are certainly very good judging by that M3 trailer, but it still doesn't do anything to reassure that the most important aspect of the game, the physics, will be any good.

Didn't any of you see the gameplay videos? They were linked to on page 23 and were in the other videos area. Physics looked pretty good to me.

We saw them, and they were nearly all on the dumbed down beginner's physics level driven by lowsy drivers crashing at every turn, and even then they didn't look that convincing. Instead we had to use our imagination on what the pro/proper modes could be like.

The Zonda round brands wa a good one showing the "driver aids" working hard to keep the car stable, also theres some interesting stuff on the E3 trailer, in particular the in car stuff.

The E3 trailer would've taken a very long time for me to load, is there a YouTube version? The Zonda vid still asked us to use our imagination on what the realistic settings will be like.

It looks like this will blow GRID out of the water. Hopefully it won't handle as pathetically as GRID does! Games can look super sweet, but if they drive like crap, you're stuck with crap.

You're forgetting SMS has implemented the engine from their Ferrari Project game, which was already previously stated to be a Ferrari sim-racing game.
Believe me I didn't forget.

Reventón;3409690
I'd find it hard to believe that EA would order them to completely dismantle it & rebuild it to arcade levels.
That's not what I meant to say. I didn't say that EA ordered SMS remove the project Ferrari physics and make an arcade racer. And that isn't going to happen.

What I meant to say is that SMS have some liberty in creating this race game but the ultimate desicion lies with EA. EA still wants a Need For Speed-ish game and you can see that. If EA gave SMS full freedom to create a nice, fun, realistic race sim, they would have done it differently.
EA has some influence on how the game must be.

And I never said that it is going to be an arcade racer. I've always been sure that it is a sim with arcadish modes i.e. beginners mode and moderate. There is evidence enough on this thread that I was giving SHIFT the benefit of the doubt, and I always believed in the porgramming skills of SMS and Eero.

A previous # of mine where I was defending the physics of SHIFT (and SHIFT as a game. So don't tell me that I forgot about the physcs engine of project Ferrari.

And it's being done in the form of 2 other titles, not this one. The beginner physics & its features are obviously the work of EA, but I'm still going to assume it can at least drive close to GTR/2's physics on Professional.

Exactly, I agree, that's what I've been saying all along.

Physics engine of project Ferrari, Eero whose working on the tire physics and maybe even on the physics engine.
Professional mode is going to be a sim mode, IMO

Maybe you're right that SHIFTis the one of the 3 project to resemble EA's NFS previous games the least. But I'm sure that the blurring effects when you drive fast, the shocking effects (camera shaking) when you crash, the driver whose breathing loudly and you can here his heart beating. I'm pretty sure that these effects are the idea of EA and not SMS, thus creating a NFS atmosphere in SHIFT.

The grafics looks better in picsm the video really made me remenber GRID, seriously.
I think this game eill be good, but don't expect too much.

Why does everyone hate GRID? It wasn't meant to be sim so of course the handling was no perfect.

yeah, i hope that grid and NFS: shift are in separate categories. GRID was a great arcade game. great graphics, great presentation, well polished and also fun. there's some skill required too, just not quite the same ones demanded by a simulation.

I sure hope the physics are better than GTR2. At the very least, better tire physics. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but there are sims out there with far superior physics to the GTR franchise. Hopefully, Eero will be able to inject some life into the physics system. RBR is still one of my favorite sims out there. Lets hope he can pull another rabbit out of his hat with SHIFT.

;)

Because GRID gave us great graphics, great sounds, ay/night change on LeMans, great choice of cars and tracks, great career mode, good online support (after 2nd patch) and top notch overall technicals (ff support, chat support, good collision physics, etc..) but it SACRIFICED the whole TOCA series physics legacy, forever ruined the game for serious players and showed that Killing Rubberbanding AI can persist even in 21st century.

GRID can be enjoyable once you let go of expecting the cars to handle like cars and approach it like a Ridge Racer game :P. I was having fun playing it with my wheel before it broke... All we are doing is going back and forth over and over atm. AutoSimSport is going to be released soon with a NFS: Shift interview. hopefully we'll get some questions answered there and maybe even a demo since E3 is tomorrow, right?

grid can be fun indeed if you do not approach it like a sim.
i do like it with volume up high etc, the fighting online.

for shift: I do hope it will be better then Grid ofcourse, handling, physics...
EA watch the market and games comming out > GT5. forza3 a new F1 game etc they want to get some money with that ganre too so i think Shift will be good.

I used to agree quite strongly, but trying not to go too off topic but I've fiddled with some settings and I'm starting to find those physics again (i.e. I've turned brake assist off as well as stability control) and I found that the cars had a more weighted feel.

Anyway, I swear the producers of this game must be smoothing out the screenshots they keep releasing compared to some of the other ones they look far too clean. (Especially the most recent ones)

And I swear that screenshots are untouched! All of them!

Shame I can't show the latest...

I'll take your word for it, if thats the case this game does look rather fantastic. If it can convey the same racing atmopshere as Grid this could be excellent for a Need For Speed game.

Berca76, how come that the cars don't look as good as in the screenshot if you watch a trailer?

There were a few trailers in the beginning of this thread where the cars look marvellous. And the trailers shown later in this thread seem to be of another game.

Good trailers

Cars look like in the screenshots, very nice environment and look at that dashboard, just pejfect!

http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/need-for-speed-shift-first-footage

This one is not as good as the previous video but it is still very good.

http://ve3d.ign.com/videos/48371/PC/Need-for-Speed-Shift/Trailer/E3-2009-BMW-M3-GT2-Trailer

Not bad but worse than the previous 2

Some as the one above. Cars and dashboard don't look like anything in (on) the screenshots.

Bad Trailer(s)

Look at the dashboard of the BMW. It doesn't look like the screenshots. The interior looks "kind off angular". The cars don't look like in the screenshots. You posted this video on page 22 #428. Most of the people agree that the graphics don't look as crisp, polished and beautiful as in the screenshots.

Don't get my wrong. I'm very interested in SHIFT, especially because SMS (and Eero) develops this sim with a physics engine based on project Ferrari and there is a professional mode where you need a wheel and pedals. 👍

Shift is probably going to be my second race game besides GT5.

That's easy..

0:17 - "3rd person" cockpit (used for chase cam etc)
0:19 and 0:26 - That's the proper "incar view" cockpit model

I'm sure you can see the difference ;)

As for the leaked gameplay videos, I really can't see what should be wrong there. It's all the same quality, nothing is faked. Besides both are videos of real gameplay and as you can see it's pretty smooth. So we don't have cut down any details. In fact we are doing the other way round :-)

Anyone can read the last banner, or Berca can you help us out ;)

Finally a game that has car sounds that sound good! That Zonda really screams. It looks like a fun game, if not as realistic as they were making out. Will be worth a rent I think. I like the type of cars that I've seen so far too.

I am still somewhat skeptical about the game, given recent history of NFS titles. Though, I am willing to give Shift a chance. Although I am somewhat disappointed with the car list. For a game that is all about serious racing, the lack of many significant race cars is rather disappointing. I would love to see some more hard core race cars, in specific a couple LMP's and more GT1/GT2/GT3 cars. Also there is a distinct lack of older classics, cars like the Mercedes-Benz 190E Evolution II, Ford RS200, Lamborghini Diablo (any model), or Jaguar XJ220. Basically, the more "unique" and not so mainstream cars have been left out of this title IMO.
