Need for speed gets "serious".....confirmed!

I'm starting to change my outlook of this game to a more positive one. That is, I used to think it was gonna be all like Grid (which I don't really like), but now as long as the individual cars feel different, then I don't care how unrealistic it might be.

From a joystiq article on FM3, Blur, Split/Second, Shift.

How many cars are in the game? Are they licensed?

Need for Speed: Shift: "We have over 70 licensed cars, which is a significant amount, and we have plans for more via DLC, including some content that will make Need for Speed fans very happy. Something that hasn't been in the series for a long time that is going to make a return."

Interesting. What hasn't been in the series for a long time that doesn't have to do with cop chases or street racing?

That doesn't prove it's not a sim at all. Try again.

*sigh* Watch the video, don't you notice how the car responds to input? Not like real life if you ask me o.O

*goes back to playing the arcadey GRiD and thinks it feels far better than Shift looks like it will*

Again, that doesn't prove anything. There's multiple levels of realism in Shift. That video could have been the most arcadey for all we know.

If the Need for Speed team can manage to pull off Shift all the way from arcade to sim then hats off to them, because i've never seen a game that's covered such a wide spectrum before.

I guess i'm just annoyed that their handling's steadily got worse and worse as the games have gone by - i liked the handling in Underground, then it started going downhill... I'll be happy to buy the game if they can fix it, but from that video (which reminds me somewhat of Carbon (well, not THAT bad) or ProStreet) i don't think they have.

That could be blamed on BlackBox who are working on World Online. I think ProStreet was a decent attempt. Not realistic, but closer than before.

It's nice to see in the Shift videos that you can no longer slam on the brakes & actually turn at the same time. In the video you posted, I saw the GT-R doing what it should do in that situation. Go forward.

That's true, that was my single biggest gripe with Carbon - going 200MPH (slight exaggeration, but you know) you could practically turn on a penny...

One of the reasons why i liked the two Underground games, you did have to brake hard for the sharp corners, and the turning was just perfect in my eyes... (i find lots of games with lots of different takes on handling to be "perfect", but after the Undergrounds, Need for Speed's wasn't one of them).

So which two underground games did you play then? Because the two I played sucked hardcore from a physics standpoint. I remember that you could take the same 90degree corners on those same shiny wet nighttime streets with just the merest dab of the brakes. Certainly nothing like the heavy braking you have to do in GT5p, or hell even the original Road&Track Need For Speed.

NFS2 cars as DLC
A good game? (sorry had to take a stab)
Seriously, and hopefully just a game experience like the old NFS. No stupid stories just racing. Though that is already expected really.
Peter_Vod59's post below would be a good guess too.

However don't we already have the official car & track lists? Maybe this new thing is going to be DLC, not part of the original game.

I never said it was "realistic", just that I think it felt a lot better... But please, explain to me how you could take a 90 turn at high speeds without smashing into the side of the track...

I'm pretty "young" and I never had a PS1 so the first Need for Speed game I played was Hot Persuit 2, and I liked that too, but I played one of the early ones recently on my PSP via the PSX emulator, and the handling didn't really feel right at all - though I know it wasn't the very first game of the series.

I'm convinced. This is going to be a hardcore sim in professional mode where you HAVE TO use a wheel to control the car properly

Berca: can you turn off the HUD and the racing line?

That's not exactly true. You can use joypad even with pro settings. But when you really want to have good lap times and compete with more skilled players you need steering wheel. Oh and it is sim, but not HC sim, like iRacing or whatever ;-)
Oooooo, :embarrassed:

I was referring to what Ian Bell said in AutoSimSport.

I misinterpret Ian's words. He said that SHIFT has a pro mode for the hardcore boys. I thought he meant that pro mode is a HC mode. Oops, me was wrong! :ouch:

amar's post:

Professional setting will require wheel in order to successfully manage throttle/braking and steering inputs

I meant to say that you need a wheel to control the car properly.

I couldn't find the right word when I was typing that previous post, so I typed the sentence without that important key word which changed the entire context of the sentence. :indiff: And now I found it and edited my previous post like I wanted it to be in the first place. :D

But still, SHIFT is a sim (pro mode) and that's what I like! I getting more and more interested in SHIFT, and now even more after you said that we can turn off the HUD and racing line. 👍

Have a look at this clip from E3 Kikie, no hud just racing line ;)

Perfect! A written and visual confirmation.

Thanks markao.

Yes in PRO settings you need steering wheel for the best lap times, accuracy etc. But you still can use joypad or keyboard.

Best Racing Game of E3 Need for Speed Shift

lol, forza and gran turismo got ownd!

At the moment, According to only IGN that is ;)

That is abit of a achievement though as it does show despite its departure from the street racing image, it is still worth it.

Yeah, hopefully.

It would be really awesome to be able to build s15 in shift and then go drift it on ebisu with realistic physics.

Let's hope Eero pulls of some magic like with rbr. :)

Haha us GT fans are getting owned everywhere. First they do a head to head between a Prologue and a full game with no consideration in the ratings. Then they put NFS Shift in front of Gran Turismo 5 in a "Best of E3" contest. This is quiet hilarious actually. Especially since Forza won for X360. So it's

1. Forza 3
2. NFS Shift
3. Gran Turismo 5

you are considering that only a TWO MINUTE TRAILER for GT was shown right? For christ sake get a grip. "GT gow OWNED LUL" ok then, if you say so.
