just 2 vids I made this afternoon ( after lot of try to configure my G25 )

Bugatti veyron - Nordschleiffe

Pagani Zonda R - Nordschleiffe

Is it just me or what. The first thing came into my mind seeing these two video is Jeremy Clarkson (Veyron) vs Richard Hammond (Zonda)... POWER!

Maybe I am just too much of a Top Gear fan.

Having a problem, the 6th gear of my Escort cosworth randomly disappears leaving me with a massivel tall 5th gear and no acceleration. ANyone else getting this?

Does anybody have any problems, or know of a way to get rid of the crackling. Everytime I'm racing it just crackles, mostly in the turns. I have an Insignia TV with the normal speakers, nothing added. It kind of ruins the game for me.

Yes I reported that too. Sometimes there's a very high static/crackling sound which makes me restart the PS3.

have you got DTS selected on your XMB sound settings? try turning it off, I know this is causing a few issues since 3.0FW. Let us know if this is it or not as a few people have mentioned it.

Jambo you got the works kit on that cozzie yet? I actualy found it to be reaching the cars limits at around 280bhp on the stage II tuning especialy the suspension and I'm looking for something else to tune further. Not put the 6 speed box on it so I can't help on that one. I watched a few replays and the cars really strugling to keep stable on the track. makes a good stage 6 online car though, no one else seems to be driving them, leave them looking standardish and you really take alot of people by suprise online as you leave them for dead.....NOS for the win LOL

OMG I love this game! So much better than I ever thought it would be, so much fun, great handling once set up nicely with the DFGT. Really good.

Yea I'll try that, but um stupid question, where can I change the DTS :dunce:

Ok so a few days in and I'm slowly starting to not like the game. Overall it is still great but a few issues I have.

-The faster cars are just bouncing rediculously on the track. Yet somehow the AI are calm and collected.
-The tracks at times are too narrow. eg. 14 odd Aston Martins entering turn 1 of a track and with or without my contribution will just create an absolute pile up.
-The AI doesn't adjust to your driving style. ie. I am trying to stay on precision but the AI are still set on kill.
-The duels have an easy way to win. Slam into the other car as they enter a corner so they fly off the track and by the time the car stops bouncing/flipping/exploding etc. you win the race anyway. This is for precision duels I have been in infact.

I pretty much agree with everything you've said there.

IMO I was enjoying Shift while I was using the lower end cars but getting into tier 3+ it's frustrating trying to race.
It seems like there is something just wrong with the physics engine in regards to the bouncing, it is as if the faster cars have had their shock absorbers replaced with blancmange.
And also as you say, the AI in the faster cars tend to drive like BTCC drivers in dodgem cars, it's as if you are not even on the track. Since you have to drive on hard for them to provide any challenge speed-wise it is irritating to get punted off the track all the time as they try to hit the apex when you are still on the line.
The customisation is weak and glitchy, my cars seem to lose gear settings and or/changes don't actually make any difference (ie same ratios at each end of the gearing slider).
The game itself has many glitches, cars getting stuck on the sideline, no engine sounds in quick race.....

If I hadn't bought it off the internet I'd be thinking quite hard about returning it....

Oh well, maybe if I give it some more time it'll grow on me.

Try setting all your dampers to maximum values prior to racing.
It takes out a lot of that bouncing effect. It's still there when you
go over some of the curbs though.

Can someone tell me about the works package? And how to get it?

You have to buy every single upgrade (I, II, II; II, III) for specific cars that are Works compatible (you'll see a stylized "w') once you've done that (purely going off of the 360) press select and then you'll have to pay more money.

The most of which I've seen thus far is 350k, and the least being 250k.

Ahh, I see. I have the Porsche GT2 and it only has Stage III. I bought everything but no "w".

unless you mean all upgrades it offers, not just the stages but aero too.

- same here :/. Some patch with additional "weight" will be awesome (cars dont have any "weight" here) - this should add some grip to the cars and ping-pong effect should be reduced also...but problem is this is EA and they rarely fixing something in games :/

When your buying a car there are 2 icons on the right, a nitrous bottle and a W, the W means you can put a works package on it, not all cars have this option! but if it dose you need to have put every other upgrade on it before you can put the works package on.

Juding by the posts coming through, you're making me second guess buying it. If the physics suck for faster cars the game is crap........plus I hate glitches.

I played a bit of the game on Thursday night, I bought it for PS3. I thought it was very very good. I am not really in a position to comment on realism, though I found it quite challenging but not in a frustrating way. (FC and SCC drive me nuts).

However, this morning I downloaded the demo for PC and I think I will go and buy this version too. I connected my PC to my 55" TV and it looks stunning. Luckily I am able to run it on high with 8x AA and AF. Switching back to the PS3 version after that is kinda hard...

In the demo, you can unlock the Pagani Zonda F. What a handful that car is! On Spa it's a pleasure to drive, as there's quite a bit of room, but around London with another 7 cars... it's almost impossible to get a clean first few corners. I had to restart about 10 times to get it.

Also, I'm so glad Need for Speed can again be called a good game (IMO). My wish now would be some DLC that adds some tracks from older NFS games (1-4). :D

I have yet to get a glitch and I've been playing it for 7 hours straight so far.

Plus I think it's funner with faster cars. The cars start to move about at higher speeds meaning you have to be on your game at all times.

Just a quick question, hope it hasn't been answered before.

Have any wheel users tried it for both PS3 and X360, and how does it drive with the G25 experience compared to the MS/DFX?

I'm wondering because it gets generally favourable reviews over here, while the fm.net population seem to rip it apart... and so far I agree more with the latter.

I got the game for X360 hoping for some online races, and so far I don't like it at all. I can't keep the cars steady on straights or even pointing in the direction I want (even stable stock cars like the GT-R and R8), the inputs feel delayed and random in strength... the pedals feel "digital" and the cars have very similar traits like massive lift oversteer and no real drama when accelerating. I guess I should comment that I am an experienced wheel user, and have had none of these specific problems in any other game (FM2, GT4-5P, Race Pro/07, LFS)

Now before anyone give me what I'd call "novice advice" keep in mind that I know what I'm doing ;) I've tried the full range of settings both in the wheel config as well as quick and advanced tune. Turning the quick tune all the way towards oversteer remedies some of the lift-oversteer (!!) and power understeer, but it also makes it even more "arcade" in feel - and it doesn't help with the poor input response and precision. Changing the wheel setup does change the response drastically, but it doesn't seem to address the core problem.

the key problem with this game is the crappy controls. And as you expect the faster the cars the more important precise controls get!

I am at the extremes for my Fanatec wheel. I run 30 % turning lock. Which I suspect is 270 degrees for consoles??? I also run full 900 degrees. For lower tier cars it gets a bit unresponsive but I get much more fine control. Going for the Pagani Zonda it´s still on the twitchy side though. If I run 540 degrees the initial steering is responsive but it´s hard to not use to much steering input which means you loose grip and aren´t smooth enough.

So I think in there somewhere it´s a great physics engine but the feel is ruined totally by the non linear controls, steering lag and the non telling force feedback. Maybe as a result of the non linear controls with steering lag. I am finally starting to get some kind of brake feel.

However you can get used to it and while it doesn´t feel as realistic as any of the PC sims it´s certainly more sim then arcade. Braking distances is realistic. It does teach you smoothness and line is everything it´s not GRID or anything quite comparable to Forza 2 and GT 5 Prologue if you manage to see pass the steering issues. It does offer way better low speed handling then GT 5 Prologue that´s for for sure.

However the presentation with all those ridiculous achievements and such don´t affect the handling but is quite distracting really. But well it´s a nice mix and if they ever manage to fix the controls it can be great! I do hope and believe Forza 3 and GT 5 will be doing a much better job with their wheel support though.

If anything, this game (and Race Pro) has made me realize just how great a job PD and T10 are doing with wheel support and feel/feedback. GT and Forza may not be mathematically correct, but the way the cars feel and respond to inputs is just miles ahead of any other console games.

Hey you guys, there is a movement in this EA Shift thread. EA seems to know about the bouncing issue and looks like they are planning to do something about it. Apparently the PC version doesn't suffer from it as much.

http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/304904.page

I would register and post in the thread above with your experiences of the bouncing. My modded Cayman S in the Ambush Canyon race within the mixed events on tier 2 is completely broken due to the bouncing on the road changes. If I accidentally get one wheel off the road, I am doomed too. It is so frustrating that these problems are putting a damper on an otherwise excellent game and placeholder for GT5.

I think the sweetest feeling race so far was the Lotus Elise invitational event. The sound that the lotus makes and its handling is excellent. The invitational event with the Veyron would be awesome if it wasn't for the bouncing too. The Veyron and pretty much every other car in this game sound amazing.

I've read about this a few times now and it seems the 360 wheel is the root of the problems on the 360 version. The PS3 and PC versions are very similar in that they use the same type of wheels and bar those strugeling with the "FFB Deadzone" it works well, takes a bit of time to get to grips with however.

FFB deadzone that is something unique to the G25 though. Those using only one engine don´t encounter that. But the force feedback is pretty absent most of the time anyway so it´s still rubbish :)

I played first few days on X360 and MSFF and from yesterday I play on PS3/G25.

It is beyond comparation, period.

I was surprised how game looks and sounds better on PS3 and DTS 5.1 set-up, while there is no sense at all in comparing driving on MSFF and G25.

At first I have to say I've really found X360 Shift with MSFF nice experience, and I enjoyed it for those 4 days. But once you go G25 you'll never come back.

Steering, braking - especially braking, because everything drastically changes in terms of oversteer/understeer under braking, than force feedback effect and most important - precision of actual steering, are beyond any comparation.

Apples and oranges here, they did a nice support for MSFF but nothing more than that. G25 is the only way to go.

Try these settings than come back :):

- all deadzones: 0
- steering sens: 100 (corrected from previous 50%, sorry for that)
- accel sens: 25
- brake sens: 12
- speed steering sens: 0%
- FF: 10
- turning: 900
