I grew up on HP2 in my early days. I hate Underground. :indiff:
I am 35 and I also grew up with the Hot Pursuit games. They really were amazing. Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2 is still one of the best NFS games created IMO. I have such amazing memories of that game. Especially the jumps and crashes that would cause the slow motion camera view that went 360 degrees around the car.

The jump at 1:10 with stopped time, and 360 degree spin around view in this video is exactly what would happen quite often in this game. Especially on huge jumps. None of the other NFS games do that.

The new NFS Hot Pursuit was really good too but didnt have any major jumps and no spin around view like the original Hot Pursuit 2.

With that said, I also had a great time with Underground 1 and 2. Those games are how I got introduced to online gaming on the PS2. Then it just went downhill after those.

Most wanted 2012 at least has massive jumps again. That combined with cops and being pretty much Burnout Paradise 2 will be epic.

Hot Pursuit 2 was my overall favourite NFS game because the showroom and roster of cars was hella nice to look at. You had to do some really tedious things to earn some of the other cars so succeeding made the car have more value.

The first NFS game that I played was Shift, which I enjoyed. The second was Shift, which I didn't. Hot Pursuit was ok, I missed The Run due to the poor response it got pre and post release.

I'll elaborate. I hate Underground because I don't like my cars having big vinyls, hydrolics and nyons. I just like simple vinyls, I don't like being punished for my car not having enough appeal from people.

Underground 2 didn't have any system like that, did it?

Yes, it did. Just like the first one, the game rewards you for ricing out your car as much as possible.

Btw, my first NFS game was NFS III: Hot Pursuit on PS1. Had the game ever since I was little. I wasn't good enough to unlock the rest of the cars and tracks in the game though back then. I still remember desperately wanting to drive the Jaguar XJR-15 and Mercedes CLK-GTR.

Also, a shame these two cars have not been in any NFS game for years. :(

for me nfs high stakes was the best ..hard as well on ps1 game.. for the ps2 yeah hot pursuit 2 ..was fun and hard.. exspecially the match between supercars ..clk-gtr.. realy adrenalin rush kikikiki

I'm bored so this will be long...

HP2 was as good as HP2010 in terms of gameplay but I feel it indicated the drop in quality that would come in the following years.

While it was arcadey like the original HP, the detailed car and track showcases were gone and unlike HS and PU, there were no convertible top options.

Compared with the latter, the visual proportions of the 996 Turbo somehow looked worse and active aero effects (II and PU had them) were no longer present.

(And wouldn't be until HP2010, which possibly has the most accurate and complete set of active aero animations of any NFS ever.)

HP2 was the first proper B-Box NFS too. A sign of things to come?

I liked that UG had starter cars you'd find in Gran Turismo but with fun, jumpy, over the top arcade physics, too bad the engine sounds were artificial and limited in number. The silhouette interiors were a bit strange too, a step backwards from HP2.

UG2 was a bit too long and repetitive, could use a fast travel point system, and the carryover forced ricing was annoying, especially with natural beauties like the RX7. Physics, tuning and engine sounds were very good though.

MW marked the arrival of Mr Dummy Puppet driver (tm). But the police and more weighty, powerslidey physics helped alleviate UG2's gameplay repetition. It was unfortunately a bit crashy on older PCs too.

Carbon was too short, had terrible physics for all classes, a rubbish tier system, and the only visual improvement was brake discs that rotate with wheels. The concept of touge racing was decent, as was some of the autosculpt kits.

PS, UC and Run also had great ideas but really needed much more time and polish, possibly from a more competent developer.

Which platform though? Did you try the demo?

I'd spend half that only if I were really bored and only for the Xbox version. B-Box's sloppitis-portitis (tm) shows.

The unskippable cutscenes and QTEs may bug you. Loading times are long even when restarting or using the rewind feature. Many stages are reversed or are alternate routes of the same area. Only a certain car tier can be used at the different parts of the story.

Car models are much lower quality than Shift and particularly HP2010 with some jaggyness and low-res textures even for carryover cars from the latter. Mr Puppet Dummy Driver (tm) is back too along with some jarring detail changes in his model when moving from an in-game cutscene to gameplay.

Engine sound samples are better than HP2010 but there's some awful mixing involved so everything sounds gargled. A generic tachometer with identical RPM range is used for every car too.

Physics is a combo of PS's grip and speed modes with some unpredictable 'is-there-grip-or-no-grip!?' moments. Handbrake slides/drifting is possible but loses a lot of speed compared with previous NFSs, it's only useful with a powerful 4WD and a very tight 180 degree turn.

The random traffic and hilly terrain WILL conspire to mess up your fun around the 2nd half of the story mode. (The midwest USA farm parts.)

I can respect the ideas, plot and even the QTEs, but the final product is such low quality in many ways for an established brand and a very poor main series comeback for B-Box.

What do you guys reckon, is The Run still worthwhile getting?

Rent it. The Run mode can be done in one sitting (around 2-3 hours). The challenge sheets are fun but are over quickly. You can easily 100% The Run in a few days.

The physics are BS at times, the menu and end-race animations cause a severe amount of lag that you wonder how developers still make these terrible mistakes.

I got it for 20 Euro's. And I agree with your comments. Oh well. It will keep me happy till most wanted.

to bed now because the 4 hour geo caching was exhausting.

I really do miss NFS. I'm going to enjoy this one for sure. Loved NFS Hot Pursuit 2010, will love this one. The cars in the game are HOT! :D

R8 GT Spyder is in and I've no idea how I missed that.

Personally wish the Gallardo was the Balboni so that there wouldn't be 'overlap' or too much similarity between the Lambo/Audi siblings.

The super fast derivative could then be the Sesto Elemento, thus while there would be 3 of the V10s, they remain reasonably distinct and unique.

The Performante is simply a bit lighter and slightly more powerful than this R8.

Renting is not very common over here. I can get it for 20 Euro's though used, from a gameshop.
I'd like to try it too but I don't wanna make place for it in my collection. If it was rentable (it's not, can't rent games in sweden) then I would take that option. Play it one weekend and give it back. I just wanna own games that I really like and that I would go back to now and then and I'm sure I'd play Hot Pursuit over The Run so... The pile is big as it is.

Still haven't finished the 1st Most Wanted. Was a damn good game and so good I also got 5-1-0 for my PSP. The Run must have been one of the worst games in the franchise - hell no, scrap that - worst driving games ever. It had great potential but from day 1 it was riddled with bugs and piled shame on the NFS series. Going back to it's roots sounds like a good idea and I'll be getting this for my PS3. Just hope they put the awesomeness that is the Lambo Sesto Elemento in the game. Missed it in The Run and hope they bring it back for Most Wanted. Incidentally, I read somebody on the net stated that EA were happy for Critereon to make Burnout 2, just as long as it was called Need For Speed : Most Wanted :sly:

I play the Run. But it's not that good. Steering and physics feel weird from time to time.

I got it second hand for 20 Euros. My advice: wait for the big Most Wanted in 2 month's time (even less).

Like the rest of us have said, if you cant rent The Run, dont buy it.

I like the way you can instantly change cars without going to your garage. Just click over on the d pad while driving and your car instantly changes. Thats awesome.

Love when he talks about the social and friendly aspects of multiplayer, while we see cars banging around.

Can't wait really.

Pressing a button to change a car. Give that advise to others please.

That's good because we don't need to disrupt our flow by driving into garages. I still like how they keep reiterating their disapproval of visual customization and I am super glad they strongly agree with keeping the cars looking stock. I've never really liked half the decal/vinyls they put on cars; it limited me to what colours I wanted to put on the car in BP.

Now I'm wondering when you change the car while the current car is still moving, will the new car keep that momentum and direction of travel? If not, then that may open up the game to glitches and exploits like in BP. :D

Kinect support = neato

I like the fact that they are against ruinin.. sorry, 'visually enhancing' your cars.

A few things floating about in the head:

1) How about a custom body colour palette option like the olde games?

2) If a car is available with a factory stripe package (Ford GT, Agera, Boss 302 etc), maybe it can be made possible to have a car without it (or vice versa).

3) Should the different wheel colour combos like some stock cars in Run be implemented?

Maybe the different factory wheel designs too.

'Cough', 991 C2S's wheels in all the different media formats so far. Gameplay footage indicates that Crit has (unfortunately) settled on the standard 'S' (like the Run) rather than the 'Sport Classic' design (like the pre-order bonus thing and 1st trailer).

4) Compared with S2U and Run, HP2010 had greater visual accuracy of cars. This is expected for a game with limited customisation and this one should continue in its path.

5) I can haz some display area to drool over cars?

Custom Paint is something I would like, but I doubt there will be one. I'm also doubting the wheel combo you mentioned.
