The map looks really cool with lots of twisted roads, something missing in the Forza Horizon series. Now, all I want is a enjoyable physics (arcade, sim... just a "logical" gameplay).

This actually sounds great, IMHO.

There would literally be no difference other than the fact that you can choose whether to get involved rather than it randomly happening. They are actually tailor-making the game to suit the play style that each individual chooses.

And think about this: Unless you just live for the chase, how many times have you been in the middle of a free-roam race only to have the cops suddenly appear and continue chasing you after the race is over? That's okay once in a while, but if you are grinding trying to earn money it couldn't possibly be more annoying. It drove me crazy in MW '05 or Undercover when I would get to the higher levels and race one time for three minutes and spend the next 15 minutes trying to outrun the cops.

Keep in mind there will be still be specific missions in which interacting with the cops will be a requirement, so it's not like you can choose to go through the entire game without chases.

What a strange design choice. This is a little disappointing. Now there will no sense of risk for speeding and driving recklessly. Cops coming after you for breaking the road laws and destroying property with your car is the whole point. But as long as the cops actually put up a fight this time, I suppose I can overlook it.

As far as the trailer goes, the game is looking better and better with each one, I'll admit. I'll probably sign up for EA Access so I can play the game for 10 hours, and decide to buy it based on my experience.

A bit disappointing as far as challenge goes, but I can see why they would do that. Allows players to roam freely, and one less thing for the developers to break (remember the World beta?). On the other hand, I feel like it's gonna make the world feel empty.

I'd rather have more NPC traffic that actually follow lanes on the road, than 5 cops scattered around the map at police stations blindly running into walls.

But that's just me being a disgruntled fan that doesn't like how Ghost has done police in either game they've made thus far. The lass I have to see cops the better. Allows them to focus on both NPC traffic and police coding to make both better.

It's jarring to read but I have a feeling it will benefit the game in the long run.

I'm not sure how I feel about the bait crate thing. On the one hand I often find it frustrating to be racing only to find myself being chased by the cops, but on the other hand I like the idea of blasting by a parked cop car to start the chase off. Even adding something like being able to do a burnout next to them to get them to chase would be cool. I just hope that the cops in this one can actually chase you if you go above 100.

Was it a previous NFS game where if you got pulled over it cut to a dash-cam view and you could drive off as the cop approached your window?

Yeah MCLA. Basically get caught over the speed limit then the cops will pull you over then the game will give you like 5 seconds to either run away or just pay the fine. I'm more on the former since it gives additional rep for escaping the cops.

It will be interesting to see how this bait crate will be handled. Does that mean you lure them to a specific spot and then do Smokey 'n' the Bandit donuts in front of them? Does it simply mean it will insert cops into the game world when you deploy the option?

I'm assuming it'll be like The Crew where you go to a location of a bait crate and cops will spawn nearby, starting the chase.

I actually don't think the lack of cops in free roam is as big of a deal as some people on other forums are making it out to be. Like @CleanCut said, sometimes it's inconvenient to end up in a 10+ minute chase when you have other aims you want to achieve. Having a specific way to initiate cop chases is good in this sense. 👍

Anyone know if radio chatter is coming back? NFS2015 never had any and the cop chatter in MW2012 was incredibly basic and lifeless.

Map looks good 👍 Probably the best map since HP 2010. It's a shame most of it looks to be desert though. I would have hoped it would have the classic 4 NFS environments (mountain, forest, coastal, desert). At least there is a city and my favourite - canyons!

Amidst GTS/PCARS2/FM7 things have been really quiet for NFS. Never thought I'd see the day when sim racing is more popular than arcade.

That's because this year has seen an usually high number of simulators released (if you include DiRT 4, WRC 7 and F1 2017), which leads to endless debates on why people prefer one game over the other.

Need For Speed Payback on the other hand, is in a class of its own for now. The next competitor (The Crew 2) won't be releasing for another 3 months at least so not much is being said about how it will stack up against other arcade racers.

I fear the death of arcade racing games since most racing games are now more on sims and not on arcade.

Talking about NFS Payback, I'm glad Ghost is finally improving ever since. As for the bait crates, I welcome this. Despite enjoying 10 min chases in NFSMW '05 and Carbon, I feel like it becomes tedious especially once you completed the required no. of milestones. As for Payback, if the cops are indeed going to be brutal (not as brutal as Rivals), then bait crates should be a good addition.

Oh no, far from it. This year was the year of Sims, next year is the year of arcade racing. Early next year, we have the release of The Crew 2 and Gravel to look forward to.

Furthermore, there are titles which have not be announced, but most likely due to be unveiled soon:
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Midnight Club re-boot (assuming the leaks were real)
  • The Codemasters + Evolution Studios Project
  • Fast and Furious Game by Slightly Mad Studios

I mean, the arcade genre is still very much in dire straits due to the death of the A and AA publisher and studio houses, and the inability for the indie market to catch up, especially in regards to licensing rights.

Next year may be good, but it certainly pails in comparison to what we got before. We'll probably never seen anything close to Juiced, Tokyo Xtreme Racer or others ever again.

Also lol at that bait crate description. Goddamn what a joke. I've actually been playing Rivals over the past few days, and the cops stick to you like **** on a shovel, but I would much prefer it to basically the fixed route BS or whatever Payback is trying to do.

How hard is it to make a decent chase system? Hell, just go lift the system Black Box used from the EA storage shed and put it in your games.

I believe the Midnight club is an updated version of MC3 that was posted on the ESBR for PS4 with trophy support.
So that maybe what it turns out to be.

By PS4, I assume you mean both 8th gen consoles? That's because the leaked shots were from Xbox One footage.

And if that ends up being the case, I'd be more than happy to pay for a remastered version of MC3.

A remastered MC3? I'm in! Of course as long as they use the Remix version that is. It would be a bummer if they used vanilla MC3.
