@Silver Arrows oh gosh yes, I used to love the amount of lesser racing games that were around back in the day. They weren't often very good, but I had so much fun with games like Vanishing Point or Felony 11-79.

First impressions... As with most game soundtracks, I haven't heard most of the songs but I like the representation of UK Grime/Urban music in there. Plus, "In my mind" by the Amazons was also in DiRT 4. ;)

It's nice to see X Ambassadors coming back as part of NFS Payback soundtrack. They been in NFS since Most Wanted 2012. I think EA should consider adding Renegades as well.

Yeah, it's nice to see a focus on grime. Though I am really, really disappointed to see very little actual rap representation. Seeing Systematic is a nice surprise especially considering it was only a promotional single for Silicon Valley.

Double post, but it is really weird looking at the rap on offer, and it's all mostly new rappers. Rappers I don't expect in an NFS game. Action Bronson? Rae Sremmurd?

I wish that Ghost would do away with limiting certain songs to certain parts of the game. It limits where players can be to listen to the music they want, if they're interested in the music at all. Who didn't like taking down cars to classical music in Burnout Paradise?*

*I know that's a rhetorical question. Still, I thought that classical music gave Burnout Paradise a distinct atmosphere.

By this point, who even listens to standard licensed soundtrack OST's anymore? I assume if you are interested in music, you'd probably just fire up Spotify anyway considering it's on PS4 and now Xbox One.

I start out listening to the game soundtrack, and I have discovered artists that way. But if you spend enough time in this type of game, I find that it gets old, and eventually I'll play my own soundtrack instead. I did notice that the soundtrack for NFS 2015 got older faster than most, for me at least.

I agree with @Peasantslayer. I'm also not interested in Spotify or any other music streaming service.

My personal example of finding out new songs: I dislike mainstream rap, but the Madden games from the PS2/Xbox/GameCube era have plenty of hip-hop songs that have grown into me. This is coming from someone who likes some (not all) modern rock, which was also something Madden soundtracks specialized in. Obviously, not everyone is going to enjoy the same music or the same games, hence this is only a personal example.

Speaking of Payback's soundtrack, I have Queens of the Stone Age in my head again. Gorillaz, Royal Blood, and Spoon interest me, too. Seeing a song performed by Jaden Smith coloured me surprised.

Seeing a song performed by Jaden Smith coloured me surprised.

It was the song used in the "Welcome to Fortune Valley" trailer (well, the instrumental at least). Considering the theme of Payback, I think it is a good fit for the soundtrack.

I mean, in the grand scheme of things, that really is just seemingly the Payback typography slapped onto an otherwise stock pair of Sennheisers.

I'll stick with my Razers, thank you.

The newest instalment of Under The Hood covers Multiplayer.

Quick overview of the features:
  • Tiered racing, plus an "underdog" bonus if you beat another player in a faster car
  • Event voting, though for some reason those in the lower half of the standings have more voting power than those at the top :boggled:
  • Picking your "Loadout" (essentially means picking a race car and off-road vehicle for the speedlist)
  • Ranked races with a number of titles you can acquire, ranging from unranked to Legend
  • Potential to win performance parts from races

Honestly, this is looking like my racing game of the year

I have to admit that while the initial reveal was rather, erhm, underwhelming, witch each new Under the Hood-article and trailer, the game definitely has caught my attention. It certainly is shaping up to be the best NFS in years.

Well if it does succeed, then this will be a huge turnaround from their last game which I hope Payback succeeds.

And looking at the features, I like how they're gonna add an underdog bonus. At least they're finally rewarding those who use a weaker car.

Wow I'm finding myself more and more interested in this and the crew 2. I passed on FM7 and haven't purchased PC2 yet as I'm hoping they will fix some of the bugs I was reading about. But now my attention has been diverted. I did like 2015 it was fun but short. The physics weren't the best but I liked both crew and 2015 better than FH3, the customization I guess is what sets it apart for me. Better still is the custom point race you can make in the crew and just take a drive across the map and when you arrive an hour later you get paid on top of it. I like to just crude and take a sunday drive sometimes. If payback could do that with the map and customization I have seen, so far, it's looking like this could be what I have been looking for.

I am sorely missing the supra in all games tho. It's always been my favorite car and the first car I purchase in any game. I'm thinking my next favorite game will be the one that brings back that car. But at least the older skylines haven't fallen off the radar yet.

With Forz'a general lack of new customization options, NFS really has a chance to shine, and out do them this time, in that department. I'm still weary, but I'm keeping my eye on it at least.

I'm in the same situation, I really love how these two open world games are shaping up. I have both Project CARS 2 and Forza Motorsport 7 and although I get enjoyment from both titles, open world arcade racers are what appeal to me the most. The approaches taken by The Crew 2 and Payback are very different but promising concepts. 👍

Sadly the inevitable has happened, but if that means we have have content updates beyond 6 months then I'm cool with it. I just hope the in-game economy doesn't turn progression into a grind fest.
