On the first quick view I thought this scene was from NFSU 1 or 2 :ill:

I don't know whether to be appalled or impressed. It's terrimazing.
Honestly I'm impressed that multiple OEMs are even ok some of the options shown so far. I've always been under the impression that when it comes to licensing, most manufacturers tend to be quite finnicky in regards to allowing players to straight-up remove body parts from their vehicles. I remember this being brought up during NFS 2015s lifecycle, because a lot of people were asking for the option to remove vehicle badges, and an EA rep at the time more-or-less said that OEMs wouldn't allow it.

Badges I can understand since they would fall under trade dress licensing, and I imagine they were likely modeled directly into the body panels instead of as seperate items, so removing them would mean modeling a second set which is a significant amount of extra work and resources for a relatively tiny change.

But if the damage model allows for bumpers to be knocked off the car entirely from damage, then giving the option to just remove them shouldn't be that difficult or objectionable, especially if you can just swap the stock ones out for any number of aftermarket or completely fictional ones anyway.

According to the NFS subreddit Discord, cars still take damage during pursuits, but rather than having a limited number of repairs, it'll be on a cooldown instead with no limits to number of repairs. I'd personally prefer it if totaling-out wasn't a thing, but this is a solid compromise.

Also, while it's overall minor, it's kinda neat to finally see a shake-up in police cars. Now more Crown Vic cops, now early Heat levels will have both Chargers and Explorers (the latter of which is basically the preferred choice for patrol cars in the US currently), then Shaws the Undercover Camaro will be present as a special unit along with the Raptor, which'll likely act as the Rhino Unit.
I actually like this change. It means we can finally go for endurance police chases again, MW2005 style, without driving to your eventual doom. I don't think there's a way to avoid taking a hit in NFS Heat, in the sense you will take damage sooner or later, so the maximum length of a particular chase was always somewhat limited.

I would assume it’ll come down to the damage model and making sure the manufacturers are fine with it. I also think EA might be flexing their muscle a bit to get approvals.

I find it amusing that bosozoku started out as a satirical commentary on the extreme aerodynamics of '80s race cars, and now it's looped around to the point where it's become entirely self-parody and I'm not even sure if the people who participate in it these days even know what the original intent was. It really has become the hair metal of automotive culture.

I personally don't have any hope the physics will be remarkably different (for the better).

I was very happy with the physics and tuning options for different driving tasks like grip, drift ect. in NFS Heat and as long i dont have to drift around corners at 150mph+ in "Criterion Style" to be fast i would be happy with Unbound and the tiny bits gameplay we have got do not look like that at all to me :)

Under the Hood: SHOW UP AND SHOW OFF - Customization in Need for Speed Unbound

Seems like there are only 3 noticeable additions, apart from the polarizing special effects and the (2d in 3d) characters:

-Removable parts (on some cars)

-Legendary Customs kits (on some cars)

-Induction audio tuning (similar to heats exhaust tuning)

Also sadly (for me atleast), it seems like the same B2D/G2D physics are back from prior entries.

Need for Speed Unbound Character Customization and Vehicle Tuning Detailed

A new blog post on the official Need for Speed Unbound site has gone into more detail on the car and character customization options, as well as the extent of the the vehicle performance upgrades in the game...
If they have UniQlo or SuperDry products for character clothing options, then I'd be more interested. But if they got anything from Kanye West, then I'm gonna actively avoid this game.

Why what? I like the designs of those two brands, especially since I have some SuperDry shirts myself. Meawhile, Kanye "Ye" West has said some real toxic stuff lately. Like, he's this close to going full 14/88. EA would be smart to not even consider his clothing/shoe designs.

If we dont get Kanye West in the game.

Then he will go Deathcon 3 on EA.

I don't know how what Kanye says makes the game better or worse but ok

Macrotransactions as a possibility... in that case, Unbound would be false advertising. More like Need for Speed Bound. Hope is starting to fizzle, but maybe the franchise will continue to stay in the right direction.

I do not have any opinions on the game so far. I do, however, have very strong opinions on what they did to that Land Rover. :banghead:

Not in a million years would EA get the idea of attaching their IP to that awful man.Don't know why you would think that.

The game's cover car belongs to, and one of the characters in it is, A$AP Rocky. Have a dig into his valuable contributions to society.
