New and Upcoming Cars

Hope nobody minds, but I thought I'd start a thread on upcoming and newly-introduced cars (not concepts; actual production vehicles). Of course, if someone does mind.... It just seems that a bunch of manufacturers are re-vamping (or, in the case of Porsche, massively expanding) their lines, so....

Subaru Legacy STi:

A twin turbo from Subaru? Wow. Have they been reading my requests? :) Now all they need to do is upgrade to the H6. It looks tres cool. Finally, a real 4-seater from Scooby-doo that gets going in a hurry. Not an M5 contender as the article suggests, but definitely a more refined (and spacious) WRX. Unlike in past years, my opinion has changed on new Japanese sporty cars: this one may actually arrive in the US. Not soon, but maybe within a year.

Subaru STi Pack:

I think Mr. Meaden was looking for this.... I don't know who's in charge at Subaru, nor do I really care. Whoever it is, is doing some spectacular work. First the t-t Legacy, now a fully factory-supported performance package -- not only for the STi, but one for the base WRX, too. Granted, it's just some chip tuning with a nicer exhaust, but it seems do to the job. Now this may not make it to the US, but I'm sure the grey market will open up stateside because of this one "little" thing.

Bargain EVO 7:

For those of you waiting for the Lancer EVO to arrive in the US, here is the version that will make it. Cheaper, wimpier, and just not an EVO. Proof positive that ****subishi thinks we're not worthy.

there are 2 Evos coming. the base, cheapo model featured there, and the full tilt boogie 280hp one. the 230hp one will go head to head with the WRX, the 280 hp one with the WRX STi, coming in about a year or so.

i've got this info from a guy on another board that works in the automotive aftermarket industry, so it's not BS.

I dont know about you guys but I dont see what the big deal about the lancer is? Even the EVOs the sub's have them beat.

erm... the road going EVOs have always been faster than the Impreza, since the very first EVO, but not by much. It's all a matter of taste. I'd get an EVO if i was to go racing on a track, a WRX if i planned on rallying (as of lately, anyway... the EVO IV to VI destroyed the WRX of that era)

don't take racing for granted, a McLaren F1 is faster than a Ferrari 360 Modena, yet it's the opposite in Formula 1.

I see it as a matter of road surface conditions. Granted, while the Mitz drivetrain will hold up better, the Scoob will do noticeably better in rough-road (or poor weather) conditions. Conversely, on a nice sunny day on reasonable roads, the Lancer will consistently edge out the Impreza. So I guess the "matter of taste" is as to which type of road you prefer. :)

"Customers tell us they would be interested in that type of car. We currently sell 500-600 Evo VIIs, and I think we could easily shift double that figure with this new version."

 - Why the hell are they selling this ****? I don't want it. They sell 500 of them in that market. That isn't even close to enough to justify selling it. Get a life, Mitsubishi. Stick to whatever you do best, which is nothing. Canada's got it right, they don't get Mitsubishi's.

and it's ridiculous. they'd sell pretty good here. 4wd and all, perfect winter car, just like the A4, the WRX and the Legacy.

Ooh, the Legacy STI looks like a nice car! I wonder what the Vat will have to say about it!

Well, if I could stop drooling....

Mmm mmm - and the press photos are in the WRX blue that the other half really wanted our car in - I might be half a chance on this one - except it'll be $90k Australian and they won't bring it over because of the dud fuel...

doug, take the stick out of your arse and actually drive a mitsubishi. you say that the magnas are crap and you justify that by having a 10 minute ride in the passenger seat of one.

because i heard are 300 hp.(but i'm no sure about)

If by "next" you mean "WRX STi" (2003), then it's 265HP right from the factory. If by "next" you mean "2004, next year", then it should be right around 270HP, with a fatter, flatter torque curve.

However, there is also the factory-supported Performance Pack, direct from the Subaru factory. This brings the WRX STi to 300HP. There is a similar package for the base WRX, bringing it to ~245HP. All the details are through the link I posted earlier.

Cool stuff, IMO. :)

Porsche 997/911:
http://www.4car.co.uk/jsp/main.jsp?lnk=240&storyid=1738
It's not bad. The headlights are an interesting compromise between 996 and 993, with the main circle separated from the rest of the "eye". It's not quite as good looking being wider, but I guess if your're trying to fit in a flat-8, there's no other way. However, I do think Porsche is evolving too far away from the original 356. The distinctive headlamp "humps" are fading away, as is the rumpy tail. I think when we see a good side shot of the 997, it may actually resemble the 350z (which, if you chop off that extra trunk bumpout and smooth the line from the roof to the exhaust, more resembles a 911 than a TT) after the Z came out. Oh, sure, this is just the natural progression of the 911, but it seems that Nissan somehow beat them to the punch. Well, not in dynamics, at least. ;)

And, uh, a 5.0L flat-8, with or without turbos (quad's? PLEEEEASE?), is an excellent choice, if I do say so myself.

Quad turbo? WHY?!

The piping...my god the piping... ;) My WRX is bad enough.

And a package that brings the USDM WRX to 245hp? That's silly. We can do that with a few free mods, and a $200 intake. ;)

Yeah, but what's that going to do to your warranty?

Mitsubishi has yet to bring an EVO over here. Clearly, they have no desire to establish themselves in a higher market, gain presence in the county, and gain market percentage. I don't want a ****ing cut-price EVO, I want the real 305-horsepower devil car. Mitsubishi can kiss this sale goodbye.

By the way, in America, Mitsubishi's are pretty crappy. Ever ridden in a Montero Sport (Pajero Sport ?)? Its ride is absolutely TERRIBLE!

Yep - and it's something most WRX owners have no idea of. If a WRX owner buys any STi part, it voids the warranty. Harsh. :)

they dont need to mate - they make more than enough money outside of america.

Yeah, that's the point. Why neglect the US market with piss-poor cars like the stripped EVO, Galant, and Montero Sport?

Treat it right, or hop out of the market.

is true,but not 100 % true.

i know a dealer guy, he say "if you by and install the parts in my dealer, you can keep your warranty" even he can sell you the chip (but that really avoit the warranty) he tell me "if you want i can sell you the chip, but wen you come to the dealer you have to put the original" he sell the chip but that is not oficially. (he made it,hide from the owner of the dealer)

btw my friend have sti pipe+2.5 exaust and he don't loose the w.

my other friend blow the entire engine,he put averything he can, you know the rest of the history.

I think that with a 5.0L H8 twin-turbo, you'd have a choice between high output with lag, or broad torque with a choked rev range. Given that Porsche has done some great things with packaging already (I mean, RR is difficult as it is), I think quad turbos is possible; try to envision it as two separate twin-turbo 2.5L inline-4 engines...with combined exhaust. :)

Sure, but you can't get that covered for 3 years. ;) BTW, that 245HP is based on the UK's base of 215HP. For the US, that could translate an increase from 227HP to >250HP. :D

This is true to a degree: the degree as to who's covering the warranty. There's a dealer in Stamford, CT, that's making all sorts of tuned WRXs, including an upcoming 450HP monster (and 300HP is normal, for tuned models). However, they state up front that their work voids the Subaru of America warranty; you would then be covered by Stamford Subaru...for one year, I think. On top of that, you pay quite heavily for the work and parts.

Come to think of it, I may just turn my "base model crap" in for trade....

Yeah - well if his engine blows and Subaru finds out that he's got the exhaust, we'll see who pays for it.
is not the same person.
the second losse the warranty for change the original parts. ( but he's trying to make a deal with someone inside of the dealer) we talking about big $$$$ )
