Well, I guess I did get ripped off, lol. So where are you guys getting this stuff so cheap. I just checked 4 sites, only 1 of the sites even had a dual core, and the one that did it was 163.99 for the MB and 795.99 for that same cpu.

I would greatly appreciate it. If I find the right price i'm selling the one I just built.

Hey Pako, awesome computer!
I just want to ask how the P180 case is...How many fans does it have, and is it keeping the computer cool? One thing I've been struggling to choose for my next computer is a case as I really am not in the know. I was thinking Thermaltake, but this case looks so sleek and sexy!

The parts are on the way....I haven't even touched it yet. :(

For some reason EcollegePC.com isn't working but that's where I got mine I believe I made up a dual core Athlon 64 for about $800?? I have to check again when it's up though. Mines an Intel Pent. D Dual core.

I believe they will let you minus parts you already have too? I ordered mine without a vid card in it.

Well everything is in, but apparently the BFG 7800GTX 512mb OC is only a myth, an urban legend, hot smoke blown up my pipe.

It's on back order and expected to be in stock in two weeks. I'll note that they have been telling me this for a week, which means they really have no idea when it will show.

Such problems to have....

The salesman even tried to sell me the 256mb a couple times. Why would I want half the ram when I'm promised the 512mb. I just wanted to be able to have a GIG of video ram after I add a second one of these next year. :)

Can I add this thread to the "What are you addicted to?" thread? I think it's appropriate.

Yeah, they're very rare. My dad and I were going to get one but we held off. Pako, wait for the 7900, seriously. It's gonna perform 70% better.

Man...can't play the waiting the game or you'll be waiting for ever! ;)

Looks like the eVGA version of the card is in stock. I may go that route, although I like the appeal of the BFG better.

Know of any good sites to see if there is performance differences from different board mfgs? Anyone?

Well, got it up and running. They were nice enough to let me borrow a XFX 6600 GT while I wait for the back ordered 7800GTX OC to come in. I also elected to go with 2 WD 10k rpm 74gb drives but they won't be in until next week, so I opted to get the storage drive now which is a WD Caviler 400gb 16mb drive. It's my system drive now, but I will configure the Raptor drives in a raid for the system and this 400gb for storage, etc. The other change from the original configuration is that I went with 2x1gb sticks instead of 4x512mb sticks and I decided to got with XP Pro x64 Edition. So far not conflicts with the x64 OS. 👍

There are a lot of great features that I'm still trying to figure out. This whole Asus+nvidia+AMD thing is really weird for me. I'm running NOS which seems to regulate CPU frequency and adjust to a max threshold. I also need to do some research on standard operating temps, and what I can expect to OC this CPU using the stock cooler. The case and PSU are awesome! Antec went all out on this one. The PSU mounts in a separate chamber from the rest of the machine. They have also customized this case to give added cooling support for dual graphics cards by supply a port channel for air flow that can be directed right above both cards.

Pako what brand/type of RAM did you end up buying? Glad to hear the computer is up and running without any problems 👍

You have like one of the best computers out there right? Or you wanted to at least?

Nah, just wanted a machine I could play F.E.A.R. on with everything turned all the way up on.

(2) Samsung Hi-Performance 1GB DDR400 CL2.5 running in dual channel mode.

So how is AMD treating you? Worth the switch?

Well, too early to tell. I'm still waiting on the 7800GTX card and the two Raptor drives for Raid support. I'm not trying to form too many opinions just yet, but I will say that it runs really cool. After running PCMark2005 and 3DMark2006, the CPU temp is only 34 deg. C which I assume is pretty good.

Speaking of:

PCMark2005 Results - All settings set to default:
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?pcm05=262558

3DMark2006 Results - All settings set to default:
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=107643

Not too impressive, but like I said....I'm not forming any opinions until the ENTIRE system is up and running.

I love the case, it's probably the highlight right now, well that and the MOBO is incredible!

Nice move, did you read the xbitlabs.com article?

No but I started to think that as software became more conducive to larger ram availabilities I can always upgrade to 4gb's down the road.

Glad to see that article supports my decision!

Nice high CPU score on the 3DMark test 👍 The other two scores (3D) will improve a load when you get the nice new 7800GTX. Keep us posted.

Will do for sure! Just curious on your setup, we basically have the same core components.....do you OC your system at all? What safe settings have you found if you do?

What MOBO are you running? :)

He's using a ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe PCI-Express.

Yes indeed 👍 I'm running the graphics card overclocked at 480/1300 roughly. I just set CoolBits to work it out for me and it came up with that. Runs perfectly stable and the increase alone gave me around 800 more points on 3DMark06 :)

Wonderful system mate!!

I have a setup a little less powerful than yours (4400X2, 7800GTX 256mb) and it serves me brilliantly!

Im sure you will be very happy with yours!

I got 4700 for 3dmark06.

That's a nice little registry hack there! Even with this loaner 6600GT I was able to get a couple hundred more points.

Are you doing anything for the MOBO (PCI, FSB Speeds) or the Processor in terms of OC'ing?

In using some of the Asus utilities, the system automatically reboots upon applying the settings. Don't think it's a heat issue as it's instant. Seems more of a incompatibility. There's definitely a lot more tweekability with this setup then any Intel system I have ever owned.
