Awesome news, a new hitman game has been announced for ps4, x1 and it is going back to its roots.

The Hitman franchise is officially coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, IO Interactive has announced today.

Agent 47’s hotly-anticipated stealth-action outing will take the series back to its roots, offering a non-linear sandbox experience.

Players will embark on a globe-trotting journey as Agent 47, who is in the prime of his career, as he tracks down his quarry across continents with the help of Diana Burnwood and the rest of the ICA.

IO adds that “the game concentrates on the core Hitman fantasy of using a wide range of tools to take out a diverse group of targets across expansive, exotic locations around the world."

The new Hitman is based on the Glacier 2 engine, which was previously used in Hitman: Absolution, and uses “what we have learnt through Hitman: Absolution," while "drawing inspiration from past titles like Contracts and Blood Money to fulfil the core Hitman fantasy."

"We've adopted an open, non-linear level design approach to the game, ensuring the game will play out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels. Our aim is to create living, breathing and believable levels which will allow gamers to play around with the AI to create those unique moments every fan of the Hitman franchise loves."

Elsewhere, the studio confirmed the return of the Contracts Mode, which lets gamers create and share their own hits, as well as the omission of Agent 47’s ‘magic pockets.’

Finally, IO Interactive promised that more information will be unveiled later on in the year. No release date has been announced as of yet, however.

"As we get further into 2014, we will reveal more and get into much closer contact with all of you," said the firm. "There are so many things we have planned and we are extremely excited for the future of Hitman.”

Sounds like they're pressing all the right buttons this time!

Glad to know they got funding for a new game, and it does look that it will bring back some of the good old aspects of it.

Absolution lacked that openness that Blood Money had, here I'm hoping for a bigger blood money, or a Bigger BM+Contracts that encourages different approaches.

House Of Cards in Blood Money was pretty big fun, here I'm hoping to have that kind of experience with a game again.

Indeed, a bigger BM+Contracts would be magnificent, it's what I was hoping Absolution to be. Surprises me how off course they went with Absolution.

They were trying to increase the appeal, unfortunately that seems to almost always mean making the game shorter and easier. I didn't mind Absolution too much as a stealth game but as a Hitman game it was awful, it seemed like half the hits occurred in cutscenes the player had no control over which is completely the opposite to Blood Money and the other previous Hitman games where not only did you personally carry out each hit, you had an entire spectrum ranging from 'all guns, all the time' to making it look like an accident. Well most of the time, anyway. Then there were 47's 'powers' that just made the whole thing a 'by the numbers' kind of thing... They were optional though I suppose.

But yeah, hopefully this new game will be back on track.

Good news!!!

I still enjoyed absolution but still preferred the good old hitman games on the PS2.

Looking forward to it!

Hitman: Contracts has just been released on Steam! That's pretty awesome news, I'll be buying it when I've made sure it works properly on modern systems. I had bought it from GameFly a while back but it runs like I do; Unwillingly, slowly and not very often.

I actually enjoyed Absolution but not as much, and as you mention as a stealth game and not as a Hitman game. It's also the first Hitman game that I haven't gone back and played again.

I feel like going back and playing Silent Assassin, Contracts and Blood Money again though (for like the 10th time) :)

HITMAN has been delayed until March. If you pre order you get access to the beta. You can buy the full game for $60 or just buy the first level for $35 and later buy the full game for an extra $30.

Also some gameplay:

There is actually going to be a collectors edition they announced in a survy earlier this year.

I know there is. But if you pre order the game you get access to the Beta. In fact they even let people vote for what should be included in the collectors edition. They haven't said what they will be including in it just yet.

Never played any of the Hitman games before, but this looks pretty great. Definitely one I'll be keeping my eye on.

From IGN:

SQUARE ENIX CANCELS PS4 DIGITAL PRE-ORDERS OF HITMAN

Square Enix, publisher of IO Interactive's upcoming game Hitman, is canceling PlayStation 4 digital pre-orders.

Sony sent out a message of the cancelation to those who have pre-ordered the game, which Videogamer's David Scammell postedto Twitter.

The notice sent out matches a similar one posted by PlayStation's support staff yesterday. "The publisher has notified us that the configuration of the product you pre-ordered has changed significantly," the post reads. "As a result we have withdrawn the current pre-order from PlayStation Store and will cancel all existing pre-orders. If you have pre-ordered the game, you will receive email confirmation when your pre-order has been cancelled. A revised pre-order for Hitman will be available on the store soon."

Square Enix responded to the cancelations today on the game's official Twitter, stating "If your Hitman preorder is cancelled, don't panic. Release date is still March 11. We're adjusting a few things & will update in a few days."

Whether this will have an impact on the PS4 Hitman beta, which is available to those who pre-ordered the game, remains to be seen. The beta is set to launch on February 12.

Agent 47's upcoming game was originally set to launch on December 8, 2015 for PS4, PC, and Xbox One, but was delayed a few months to March 11.

Hitman is now fully episodic and changes it's price plan.

Intro Pack (Prologue & Paris Locale): $15
Locales: $10 Each
Full Game: $60
Intro Pack Full Game Upgrade: $50

Downloadable only from March 11th with new locales being available throughout the year
Disc version will be available later this year

I don't think Ill be purchasing this until they have a complete game. Doesn't sound very appealing to buy a game play part of it and then have to wait a month or so for the devs to finish the next part and then play and wait again. Sucks because I was looking forward to this.

Interesting to see a big release go for a pricing structure like this, it does probably mean I'll either buy the intro pack at launch and get the upgrade at a discount or just get the full game at a discount. Depends on how good it is, I guess, and how much content you get in an episode.

Episodic gaming sounded like folly 15 years ago, why the heck is such a major release using it? Delay it until it's finished. Forcing it out bit by bit will alienate more than a delay would.

Couldn't have put it better myself!!! Plus to pay up a full RRP at launch to then receive the a portion of the game now and the rest over the next few months is something i just won't do, once they have your money they can release whatever they like as your money is non refundable. Same reason i will only purchase a season pass after all DLC has been released.

Loved Hitman back on the PS2 so still hoping it will turn out great and i will purchase the full retail copy when that is available.

Unfortunately its seems to be happening more and more that devs want payed before they finish the game. As long as people keep giving it to them they will keep trying to get the money sooner and sooner. Hell some now are trying to get the money before they even start the game.

Preordered im in beta hoping this is good
Also hear is a official unboxing of collectors edition
